Just a little group for the ladies with GD to talk, ask all the questions and be there for each other

Just been for my fortnightly appointment at the diabetic obstetric clinic and got booked in for a section at 38+5 (not GD related - baby is breech!)

3 weeks to go til I can eat sweets and drink coke Grin

Bubbles1st · 22/06/2021 14:50

@AdventuresAwait oh no , what did you eat?

@BastardMonkfish oh countdown on to such a life changing milestone!

AdventuresAwait · 22/06/2021 16:12

@Bubbles1st chicken soup. Really disappointed.

@BastardMonkfish, wow! Exciting.

bewitchingnight · 22/06/2021 16:39

@BastardMonkfish exciting!

@Bubbles1st oh no! Hope it settles down

@AdventuresAwait oh that's so rubbish, and on something that you'd think would be fine as well

Bubbles1st · 22/06/2021 16:39

Yes soup will do it especially if canned, carb content can be really high.

I had half tub of fresh Stilton and broccoli Asda soup for my lunch, with a small chicken salad on the side. Had good readings. Think the fresh stuff is better if you don't crazy and the whole tub. I think there were 9g carbs it it.

CherLW · 22/06/2021 17:09

@BastardMonkfish all that good you mentioned sounds lovely! I’m not really paying a whole lot of attention to the size of my meals, just what’s on my plate… I just went out for a Nando’s so hoping when I do my bloods at 6 they aren’t too crazy!! They should be ok, I didn’t go mad…

I’ve been reading up a lot also and have seen people have massive cakes, chocolate, burgers etc in the hospital as soon as they can after the birth 😂 that will definitely be me… getting cake delivery ASAP!!

OP posts:
AdventuresAwait · 22/06/2021 18:46

@Bubbles1st, it was fresh soup and I had half of it. 100gr = 4.1 carbs but I think half was 11grams. Will definitely avoid soup. I just didn't realise.

When I got my high reading, I wanted to eat chocolate, take away, crisps... anything and everything lol (but didn't) so that will be me too @CherLW!

My test before dinner was back to normal so will see what it is when I next test after dinner.

GWhiteley · 22/06/2021 18:52

So had my growth scan & she said it's all seems normal, but the printout shows that babies femur is supposedly below the 5th to 95th centile range, so slightly concerned. Thank god got consultants app tomorrow so I can ask them about it.

bewitchingnight · 22/06/2021 19:17

I made a squash and butter bean soup for tea tonight, not tried the recipe and it was delicious. Went and walked outside for an hour and levels were 5.7 which is my best evening result for a fair few days.

@GWhiteley that's good timing, hopefully it's nothing to worry about and they will put your mind at ease

I was thinking about treats for the hospital bag when hopefully this has all gone away! I wonder if things will taste incredibly sweet after weeks of avoiding them?!

bewitchingnight · 22/06/2021 19:18

Sorry, that should say not tried the recipe before

AdventuresAwait · 22/06/2021 19:48

So my dinner readings were back to normal... before was 4.7 and one hour after was 5.7.
So it was only my post lunch that was high. That's something I guess! Had been worried it might be high for the rest of the day...

CherLW · 22/06/2021 21:42

Not the loveliest of questions but is anyone finding it a bit harder to go to the toilet! (Number 2) since doing the GD sort of diet?

I wouldn’t say I’m not eating enough fibre… not sure what I can do 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
GWhiteley · 22/06/2021 21:47

@CherLW oh yes! So glad it's not just me. Very sporadic now I not only don't drink coffee but also don't have any cereal.

CherLW · 22/06/2021 21:56

@GWhiteley I haven’t really suffered the whole pregnancy but this last week… its just not ideal!
I guess I used to eat more fruit than I do now. I’ve never been a big cereal eater as I don’t like milk.. just don’t know what is needed… I’m also not having anything greasy.

@CherLW I've remained regular as normally for me and then just day one of metformin and the diarrhoea nicely kicked in 😭 so opposite for me!

CherLW · 22/06/2021 23:02

@Bubbles1st these things are definitely sent to test us aren’t there!! Everything will be worth it and forgotten when the babies are here ❤️

CherLW · 23/06/2021 10:04

How you feeling today @GWhiteley have you got your consultant appointment?

OP posts:
GWhiteley · 23/06/2021 10:21

@CherLW a bit nervous to be honest & struggling to concentrate at work. I'm just hoping they give me some reassuring news.

Also had awful cramp at 6.30am this morning so hobbling around 😂

Whens your consultancy app?

CherLW · 23/06/2021 10:52

@GWhiteley I guess the nerves is natural but it’s hard to cope with isn’t it. I really do hope all goes well for you x

I hate cramp!! It’s a gift that just keeps on giving 😂

Mine isn’t until the 7th July… it does make me on edge that it’s so far off. Yesterday when I had a growth scan it was because of reduced movements and not because of the GD diagnosis… I have another scan for that on the 7th.

You mentioned your little ones femur was showing shorter? When she tried to measure mine she said he was in a weird bent up position so was harder to see. Hopefully they talk everything through with you today, will be thinking of you. Let us know how it goes, really unsure what to expect x

AdventuresAwait · 23/06/2021 12:42

Thinking of you @GWhiteley, hope it goes well xx

Bubbles1st · 23/06/2021 13:57

@AdventuresAwait meant to ask yesterday, what did you eat with your soup? As you have to pair it. So I had chicken salad with Mayo to give me the protein and fats needed to slow the carbs down.

AdventuresAwait · 23/06/2021 14:20

@Bubbles1st, just some bread.. and I had the bread again for lunch and was 9.2 again! My only high reading again today so far... I'm guessing it could be the bread??

GWhiteley · 23/06/2021 14:32

Well it turns out it wasn't a consultant app, but with a midwife instead. She said I'll have another growth scan in 4 weeks & then I'd have an app with the consultant as then they'll have something to compare.
She did say that the baby was within the normal parameters all over & to try not to worry for the time being. Just have to keep going with what I'm doing for now

Bubbles1st · 23/06/2021 14:49

@AdventuresAwait ok so the soup is the carbs so you cannot have bread as well. You need extra protein and fat with it.
