That frozen yogurt looks nice @CherLW that might help liven it up a bit!

I don't snack after dinner usually unless I'm really hungry but my go to is an oatcake or two with peanut butter.

AdventuresAwait · 21/06/2021 09:06

Ooh I'm going to try the yoghurt idea @CherLW, thanks!

CherLW · 21/06/2021 09:48

@GWhiteley woo that’s good! It’s definitely about tweaking, It’s good when you find something that works for you! I am loving the 5% Fage one, it’s so thick!

@AdventuresAwait @bewitchingnight looks tasty doesn’t it! Something different to try too 😊

Bloody breakfast is so hard to get right unless it's yoghurt for me. I can't live on yoghurt for the next 2 months and eggs on an empty belly is proving somewhat uncomfortable to say the least.

How about some of those egg and ham muffin things with cheese on top you always see on the body coach and that kind of thing?
BastardMonkfish · 21/06/2021 10:46

I sometimes take a cereal bar before bed, there's lots of good high protein low sugar ones.

Warning though if anyone is planning to try Fulfill bars - these are the only foods that made me feel ill. Extremely weird and spaced out and just awful - even real chocolate doesn't have that affect! I avoid all energy protein type foods now they don't help and actually make things worse.

Bubbles1st · 21/06/2021 10:51

@BastardMonkfish I've seen the recipes but that's the kind of think I simply might not be able to stomach in the morning. However I certainly need to find a few variables to have on standby.

Shopping today so will stock up on bacon and mushrooms. Might try a big leaf lettuce and try some lettuce wraps.

AdventuresAwait · 21/06/2021 18:51

I've finally got my scan and clinic appointment! 8th July so a bit longer to wait.

Submitted my results today and they're happy with how it's being managed at the moment. Got to send again at the weekend.

bewitchingnight · 21/06/2021 18:55

Great news @AdventuresAwait I got my letter today too but it's not til the 15th it seems so long to go without seeing anyone!

I'm feeling a bit low about it all today to be honest, it just all seems so hard.

Bubbles1st · 21/06/2021 19:10

Pleased you're all getting appointments through even if they seem away off.

Following my first proper diabetic appointment and review of my levels I need to up
My insulin from tonight, they talked me through upping it every couple of days until my levels come Below target for fasting. If resistance changes again repeat the process

Also put me on metformin at breakfast time. As they queried a couple of high readings and I said it coincided with when I have carbs, even just a couple of crackers. So the metformin after my breakfast should help me tolerate them
Better. I'm a bit apprehensive to take them as there can be side affects and if I avoid carbs my level is fine. However.... I also would love the
normality and convenience of being able to have a slice of toast in the mornings! So I'll see how I get on.

BastardMonkfish · 21/06/2021 19:14

What's for dinner tonight everyone? We are having a barbecue and I'll be stuffing my face with halloumi, chicken wings and I'm contemplating whether to have a slice of barbecued pineapple 🤔 I'm 35 weeks so the temptation to eat the whole pineapple is real Grin

GWhiteley · 21/06/2021 19:18

@bewitchingnight you're not on your own today with that feeling. Just seems overwhelming today.
Had the smallest sandwich in the world for lunch, even tried munching it slowly but was still hungry afterwards. Ate every single one of my snacks throughout the afternoon - which is normally unheard of & then it's hubby's turn to cook & he's massively late!
So now I'm grumpy & emotional while I wait for my dinner & trying to work out something to have tomorrow for lunch that might be more filling

bewitchingnight · 21/06/2021 20:14

Thank you @GWhiteley it sounds like we had similar days, I also had the tiniest sandwich for lunch and the levels afterwards were almost over. Been so hungry today but don't know what to eat that won't make things worse.

For dinner I ended up having shashouka (that's probably not how you spell it!) eggs in tomato & pepper with three new potatoes. Just been for a swim so feeling a bit less grumpy.

@Bubbles1st I feel a bit like that, at first I thought oh I hope I don't end up having to take anything but it's so hard now I think I will be less upset because then I could hopefully eat a bit more normally at certain meals.

bewitchingnight · 21/06/2021 20:14

@BastardMonkfish your dinner sounds great!

CherLW · 21/06/2021 20:38

@GWhiteley @bewitchingnight sorry you’re having a bad day 😞 try not to beat yourselves up over it tho as it’s such a huge things to have to adjust too with not really much guidance. Hopefully tomorrow will be better x

@AdventuresAwait that’s good news! Mine is booked for the 7th! Just seems so long doesn’t it!

I made pizza wrap today- a whole meal wrap with tomato purée, mushrooms, chicken, mozzarella and cheddar. I had it with a salad and my levels were good! I was a bit worried about the wrap but seems to be better for the readings than having bread with a sandwich!

Sending you a hug @bewitchingnight. I felt like that last week.
I LOVE shakshouka and hadn't thought about having it. One of my faves so now on the list!

@BastardMonkfish, sounds lovely. We made beef teriyaki with noodles.

My levels have been good for two full days now so I think the Metformin morning and evening may be working. Fingers crossed! I'm feeling full after meals so only have a snack in the evening before bed. Walking after every meal too.

DressyGerbera · 21/06/2021 22:53

@bubbles1st have you tried the low carb bread? They are very small slices ( livlife) but they keep my levels low after breakfast and satisfy my craving for bread!

Your dinners sound lovely! I had brown rice, salad and chicken in mushroom cream sauce. I try to do very mild exercises after each meal ( walking up and down the stairs kinda thing) and I think it helps bring the levels down.

BastardMonkfish · 21/06/2021 23:00

If there was ever a time to start treating yourself to big dirty fatty meals this is it. No more small sandwiches! Big wraps full of steak and cheese and peppers and onions. Or if you do want a sandwich stuff it with bacon and/or sausages. Get yourself some scotch eggs from the butchers, and some of those nice kebabs and things you get for the bbq. Deep fried breaded brie melting over a salad (depending on how relaxed you are about the soft cheese rules!), a big fat roasted beef or ham joint sliced and kept cold in the fridge for snacking with M&S Cornish cruncher cheese and pickled onions. Some of those fancy bags of nuts for when you feel picky. Home made lentil and ham soup. Chicken wings dipped in hot sauce. You need stuff to fill you up that you can look forward to eating or you'll be miserable Thanks

bewitchingnight · 22/06/2021 09:01

Thanks so much everyone, it makes such a difference to be able to talk to other people going through it!

Today is a new day and I'm feeling more positive. I had smoked salmon and avocado on whole meal toast (got some bread from a deli nearby that conveniently is sliced in the thinnest possible slices) and then I walked up and down the stairs for a bit afterwards - thanks for that tip! Levels were ok.

@AdventuresAwait that's great yours are in the right place it sounds like what you're doing is really working for you!

Bubbles1st · 22/06/2021 10:20

So this morning was my first dose of metformin with breakfast and I got readings under target after a seeded flat bread! I'm so happy, if it's continues it will be such a game changer, just praying for no side effects 💩 💩 🙈

GWhiteley · 22/06/2021 11:48

Are we allowed to eat smoked salmon? It's one of my favourites but was sure I read somewhere it's a no-no so have avoided the Tesco salmon & cream cheese sandwich since finding out I was pregnant!

Got my growth scan today - but nervous to be honest & not sure what to expect

CherLW · 22/06/2021 12:03

@GWhiteley I’ll let you know what kind of thing they did so you’ll have a rough idea for your appointment.
They said mine is the 1st appointment of the afternoon so hoping there is not too much of a delay 🤞🏼

bewitchingnight · 22/06/2021 12:26

NHS says smoked salmon is ok - just as well I've had loads of it, haha! It counts as an oily fish though so supposed to be not more than 2 portions a week.

Sounds like a great start @Bubbles1st how often are you taking it?

Bubbles1st · 22/06/2021 12:45

@bewitchingnight just after my breakfast -
However the side effects have already kicked in......🙈

AdventuresAwait · 22/06/2021 14:33

Just had my first high reading for a few days.. no idea why ☹
