I class it as ok! (On target) @Bubbles1st xx

AdventuresAwait · 05/08/2021 18:25

Thanks @Scotti84! Yes it is xx

CherLW · 05/08/2021 18:47

@Bubbles1st mine has to be under 5.5 for a fasting reading

OP posts:
Sillysocks998 · 05/08/2021 18:49

@Bubbles1st 5.3 or lower pre breakfast and 7.8 after lunch and dinner for me.
I've lost about 0.5kg since GD diet started 3 weeks ago. I read you will lose up to 4kg post birth. The amniotic fluid is roughly 2kg alone. I didn't have any weight to lose pre pregnancy but I have gained about 8 to 9kg. So I've definitely put some weight on. I'm petite though and bump feels smaller compared to others on IG for example. So not sure where it is 🤔 x

AdventuresAwait · 05/08/2021 20:29

My target is also 5.3 or lower for fasting and pre-meal readings.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 05/08/2021 20:42

It’s strange how the pre meal target is 5.3 or below but you could have eaten a snack an hour before, yet your post meal target is 7.8 or below when you have also eaten an hour before.

Moominmiss · 05/08/2021 22:35

Fab news about your appointment @AdventuresAwait! You must feel such a relief now.

I’m feeling so crap. I had a reading of 10.9 this evening after eating a meal I’ve tolerated well loads of times. I’ve had a few high meal readings lately, whereas before I’d been managing it with diet pretty well, now it’s like I can’t even tolerate the meals that were my go to!

I’m going to have to request a call back on my GDM app tomorrow as I’m positive my fasting one will be high again and they’ll want to up the insulin again, but now I’m worried they’re going to want to start me on the insulin I have in the fridge that you inject before every meal.

Just feels like my body can’t do this right. I know it’s common for it to get harder to manage as the pregnancy progresses but now I’m scared to eat anything at all!

AdventuresAwait · 05/08/2021 23:11

Thank you @Moominmiss!

I empathise with the frustration of high readings when you don't expect them. I told the team about mine today and they agree it was likely to be due to the change in diet when we had a couple of nights away at the beginning of the week (it's our first wedding anniversary!). So they said to see how they go now I'm home. Today's have been fine but they did say that it often gets worse towards the end so not to be surprised if so & we'd just adjust my medication.

I also didn't feel like eating sometimes but found it affected my readings and had more highs xx

Hi all, just had my appt at the hospital with the birth consultant... what a bloody difference to what i was expecting! We had a list of questions about induction and c section etc and he was really relaxed and nice, said we would go to my due date 30th august and then see what was happening and look at further options. I was so worked up about having to choose a birth method now, but he said that if she hasnt shown by then thats when we can start looking at what to do. He did a scan and said she's long and her heads a bit bigger than normal but nothing concerning and as me and hubby arent built short and thin then we wouldn't have a small baby. I felt completely trusting in what he was saying and feel sure he would tell me if a c section was necessary. He also said induction isnt always by a drip, they give me a tablet that makes the cervix ready for labour and thats usually enough to bring it on. If that doesnt work then either infusion or c section. Had a look round the birthing rooms too which was also nice, feels a bit more real now and although im still apprehensive about the birth, feel a lot better that she'll still get chance to come on her own.

AdventuresAwait · 06/08/2021 11:00

Wow, that's excellent @Scotti84! You must be so pleased xx

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 06/08/2021 11:43

@Scotti84
Oh great news! What a lovely surprise (and change of pace)

Scotti84 · 06/08/2021 11:55

Thanks ladies, not what i was expecting but so happy with it. Now just got to get little miss to not be lazy and show up on time 😅

Moominmiss · 06/08/2021 15:52

Well as I suspected, my fasting reading was too high again this morning.

Had a call from the GDM team, they want me to up my insulin to 8 tonight and continue to up it by 1 unit each evening until the morning reading is ok.

But, because my after meal readings have been creeping up too, even eating things I previously tolerated well, they want me to inject 2 units of a different insulin (lispro) 15 minutes before my evening meals. And before lunch if it’s particularly carby. I don’t eat breakfast as I’ve not tolerated anything at all since diagnosis, so they said if I want to reintroduce breakfast that I should just inject 2 units before that too.

Not how I hoped this would end up but nothing surprised!

Poppysmile · 06/08/2021 16:28

Hi guys I had a midwife appointment today and she told me I have double ketones in my urine it really upset me, I rang the diabetic nurse and she told me to start eating more carbs but then I worry I will go over on my readings, I’m normally around the 6.5 mark for my readings after a tea with very little carbs in would you lot say I can afford to eat more carbs if it’s around that mark I just worry when it goes over that? I really thought I was doing so well!

Bubbles1st · 06/08/2021 17:28

@Moominmiss aw sorry to hear you need to add the insulin in, hopefully it will give you reassurance all levels can be in range and a decent meal still be eaten

@Poppysmile I've had the same a battle between not eating enough but keeping readings down, if your not on any medication yet then this is what it can help with as realistically I'm not sure how much more carbs you could tolerate before pushing you over, just need to experiment a little. Also make sure you're eating snacks in between and not just your meals.

Poppysmile · 06/08/2021 17:37

@Bubbles1st it’s so disappointing, I’m not on medication yet Iv got an appointment with dietician on the 11th in the mean time I’ll eat more carbs and hope my readings don’t go to much over, Thankyou for your reply think I’m going to treat myself tonight with a takeaway but just get a wrap and see how I get on with my readings xxx

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 06/08/2021 18:12

I saw this in B&M and thought I’d better share.
I have the maple syrup. When I tasted it separately it does have a synthetic taste but mixed with something else, I have it in my yogurt in a morning, and it’s really good.

@AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken they look soo good! Just had a look to see if I can get them over here... 6 quid for one! Will have to find an alternative.

Had my review today, the docs pleased with my results and has said I can go down to measuring just three days a week. Not sure if i want to, as I'd rather be sure I'm OK but I guess if i eat something and want to check i can still test to be safe.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 07/08/2021 21:32

Oh wow! You’re giving us hope!

AdventuresAwait · 07/08/2021 21:37

Wow, well done @Scotti84!

CherLW · 07/08/2021 21:40

@Scotti84 I was similar… I was testing 6 times a day and on my first review 4 weeks ago they said I could go down to 4 times a day but I’ve continued with 6 times as I just feel more in control.

Ladies… what are you packing for your hospital snacks? I keep thinking if it’s natural Labour I’ll be home and then just take a few little things in as hopefully after he’s born I’ll be ok BUT if I’m induced I’ll have to pack so much stuff as could be there ages!! I know you can ask for a diabetic meal if staying in before hand but I’ve heard they aren’t that good!

Scotti84 · 07/08/2021 23:29

@CherLW my hospital have suggested isotonic drinks and energy bars despite the GD. I think as long as I don't eat a dozen at a time they're OK. I saw some protein meal replacement shake things called 'this is food' today that I'm considering getting too, in case I don't feel like eating but need the energy. Im guessing they'll advise me against anything I have that I shouldn't eat and then hubby can have it to keep him going.

CherLW · 08/08/2021 09:52

@Scotti84 I think some energy bars are better for you than others aren’t they. I’ll have to have a look round. I’m also going to pack things like nuts and apples just incase.

Hey ladies, glad everything is going well for you all. The GD diet! Lol, I'm losing the will again. Just grazing today. I don't fancy making a meal. So I've no idea when to test. 🙄. I have nearly polished off Sourdough bread from M&S. It's a small one. Lovely with PB or hummus or cheese. From the bakery. It's given me hope and desire to eat!

I read the normal group thread 8 the other day. Everyone discussing their delivery modes was quite stressful. I've made a decision now. I've told my consultant that a C section is the only way that I can proceed now. So I've been thinking about what foods I cna eat easily, nutriously whilst hoping to BF. Regardless of what happens, the first 6 weeks will bw hard for us no matter which mode of delivery. BF struggles, sore nipples, c section wound, baby blues, not enough support perhaps at home, relationships being tested, hormones etc and etc so its best to just focus on relaxing so we can bond, let the chaos around us happen and get through it. Hopefully we'll still have our group so we cna share the fourth trimester ups and downs. Think we'll need it so we're not alone. My consultant has approved the c section but I don't yet have a date.
I don't usually make and freeze meals. I make an extra portion for the next day. I'm thinking peanut butter, crackers, nuts and nut bars, water bottles, no added sugar squash, cakes, biscuits, aim for porridge in the morning, and a good hot meal at night. Obvs pile porridge high with fruit, nuts and pb. Have food in different rooms so I have access to food. Not having to only go to the fridge all the way downstairs. Lots of frozen food too. It will cost abit, but if rather have enough so I can get through first few weeks.
Has anyone bought nipple shields? I have nipple cream so far.

Scotti84 · 08/08/2021 18:48

@Sillysocks998 delivery was definitely stressing me out of my consultant appointment on Friday, now I'm a bit more relaxed. Im still hoping for a natural birth but thinking if she's not here then probably c section, my biggest worry with that is not being able to concentrate on baby because I'll have to heal and poor hubby, although he's quite capable, having to do everything. I worry that it will be even more pressure on our relationship etc, but on the other hand if that is the safest way for her to be delivered then we will deal with it. Its all only temporary, then hopefully we will have a grip on what we're doing!
