@Sillysocks998 you almost answered your own question! It's the unknown of an induction and the time frame. Bearing in mind it's literally forcing a baby out your body before it is otherwise ready to do so.
Unfortunately intervention often leads to intervention and the chance for needing and instrumental or c section delivery increases with an induction.

In my my baby either needs to be delivered or he doesn't. Not we will induce but leave you a week or cancel or because we are busy. So I've said I'll accept a section IF the risk of him staying in outweighs the benefits.

Plus I feel the planned section recovery for me will be better than the unknown of will I tear, need an episiotomy or my worst fear damage my bum 🥺

All that said if I go into spontaneous natural labour I will go through with the process as I trust my body will be ready for it.

Scotti84 · 05/08/2021 07:46

@Sillysocks998 for me its the pain side for one, ive been told its pretty much torture without an epidural and i wanted to avoid that as much as possible, but its also the fact youre forcing baby and your body to give birth before either are ready. C section would be 'easier' but i go back to do i want all the pain and stuff to be done when babys here, or do i want an easier birth and then the two week recovery. Hubby will be around to help but thinking i wont be able to be there for her as much as i should isn't great, its so hard to know what to do. Hoping she comes on her own tbh.

@AdventuresAwait good luck with your appt today x

AdventuresAwait · 05/08/2021 08:07

Thank you @Scotti84 xx

AdventuresAwait · 05/08/2021 08:17

@Sillysocks998, I want to avoid an induction for a few reasons. They are more likely to require an epidural and, if giving birth naturally, I don't want to be pushing when laying down on my back. For first babies, they can last days and there is an increased risk of instrumental delivery or emergency c-section. Ultimately, for me it is forcing a natural process which, if early, my body isn't ready for (maybe different if overdue). I know there can be cases of good induction experiences however.

This is coupled with the fact that I have GD which also increases the risk of an emergency section (the growth scans are not 100% accurate so baby could be big), shoulder dystocia or instrumental birth.

On top of this my age and BMI increase my risk of an emergency section/instrumental birth and my sister & Mum are unable to give birth naturally due to a narrow pelvic arch so the consultant already had me on a low threshold for a section if labour isn't progressing. So, with my thoughts on induction plus emergency c-section risks, I would rather have a planned one. Even though I didn't want a cesarean at all, I now feel it is best for us personally.

Sillysocks998 · 05/08/2021 08:31

Hi Ladies, @AdventuresAwait @CherLW @Bubbles1st @Scotti84 thank you so much for explaining your reasons. Which sound quite similar which is good. I guess I was on the right path for my self too, I just couldn't explain it properly. We've all got our individual reasons. Mine would be because it's planned, less stress, but also because I've had surgery at 18 weeks pregnant and I do t think I could manage pushing and being that stressed out. I am seeing my OB next Friday so I think at 34 weeks that's when I'll be given a date. It'll be earlier than 36 weeks. Just a quick question, if I had a C sec at say 35 weeks, then isn't that getting the baby out before he's due? How's that still natural,, or Is that the point, it's not natural but safest lol. Sorry I may have answered my own question again. I would hate to be induced and then just left to my own devices for a week. I can't even get through one night when I'm so uncomfortable.
Today, I'm treating myself to half a pizza. The ristotante one with cheese. I need it. Hubbys also making me 20g of porridge with berries. Like @CherLW said, I feel shakey on this GD diet.
Thank you so much again for explaining to me. It's been really lovely to read and understand. Ps promise I'm not thick, I've just had to spend half my pregnancy recovering from surgery and haven't had the energy to really do anything but keep myself and baby well.
Have a lovely day ladies. Xxx

Scotti84 · 05/08/2021 08:48

@Sillysocks998 no one thinks youre thick, its good to get opinions from other people, ive learnt more from here than from my doctor! Its good to get different views. C section isnt natural but is the safer option, I know its also not without risks but i think as its out of our hands, done by doctors who know what theyre doing and we don't have to question if our bodies will do what they should its seen as a safer option. If it wasnt for the recovery i'd be sold, its the only thing making me still consider induction.

Sillysocks998 · 05/08/2021 08:54

@Scotti84 the recovery will be hard. Especially if you are on your own like @CherLW. Trying to bend, shower, wee, make food, get out of bed, pick baby up for feeding, wound management, pain relief etc but at least it's controllable? With induction and contraction pains you've got to trust your body and dig seriously deep. Both come with their pros and cons. Because of my surgery this year I've been recovering since April and trust me, I don't want another operation to have to recover from. I'd just be recovering all year long! Plus want to fit in my covid and flu vaccines somewhere! These last few appointments of ours are our only opportunities to ask and assess our own labour's now.

Bubbles1st · 05/08/2021 08:59

@Sillysocks998 my friend had her baby via c section yesterday at 34+2 so she was quite early but weight 5lb 9oz, is breathing on her own and feeding well. So yes it was early but she had going into labour naturally and the section meant she could arrive in a controlled manner.

Sillysocks998 · 05/08/2021 09:30

@Bubbles1st aww amazing. That's reassuring. I'm trying to wait until 35 weeks but unfortunately it's due to results of weekly bloods. So things can change quite drastically from this week to next. I hope your friend is OK and in this situation whatever the reason a C section sounded safest. ❤️

Scotti84 · 05/08/2021 12:31

@Sillysocks998 I've got an appt at the hospital tomorrow to discuss with the consultant, im kind of hoping because im not on meds for the GD and baby is measuring right on for 36 weeks that they might let me have a bit more time to see if she makes a move herself. If not, i think it will come down to what is the less risky option and i'll just have to deal with the pain or the recovery. Loads of women have inductions or c sections so its not like im being offered some brand new trial birth method or something, she's going to be born one way or the other 🤣

Sillysocks998 · 05/08/2021 12:53

Hi @Scotti84 that sounds like a good plan. Maybe they'll give you another week? I was just looking at my calendar and thinking, I need another 2 weeks at least. 😂. I did just have that pizza I said I would. So I'm testing at 130 to see what the damage is. I also repacked hospital suitcase this morning and took out spares for hubby to bring. (pads, nappies, wool etc
I've packed thinking I'll be in hospital for 5 days. Hopefully it's much less.

Sillysocks998 · 05/08/2021 12:56

Yes I agree c sections are probably happening more than we think. If you've got some help at home I'd consider it. I'm hoping my mum will stay with me a couple of weeks to help me out after.

Sillysocks998 · 05/08/2021 12:57

My GD is still diet controlled but I tend to give myself high readings when I want a piece of white toast, some beans etc. Nothing even fancy 🙄

AdventuresAwait · 05/08/2021 13:14

Hello all. My appointment went really well! I'm increasing my insulin dose to 12 (from 10) but that's the only change.
There are no concerns with growth, development, placenta or fluid so I've been discharged from the clinic. No more scans or meetings with the consultant. Next time we are booked to go to hospital is for the pre-op and then the section! (Unless we have to visit for a change in movements or start spontaneous labour). They'll continue to monitor my blood sugars so I'll have contact with the diabetic nurse still.
Very relieved!

Sillysocks998 · 05/08/2021 13:31

Aww perfect @AdventuresAwait. So you can chill ahead of the big day now? Thats great news. Honestly the best news a mum to be could hear x

CherLW · 05/08/2021 13:46

That’s excellent news @AdventuresAwait really happy everything is going just as it should do 😍 x

@Sillysocks998 you’re definitely not thick! Like the other ladies have said, this group has given me more help and reassurance than a lot of the doctors. So much more beneficial to ask people going through the same and getting all different opinions and ideas 😊

AdventuresAwait · 05/08/2021 14:00

Thank you @CherLW and @Sillysocks998! Still got to monitor my bloods and take all my medication but good that they're happy.
I was relieved and now the worry is re starting lol I'm already thinking... but what if her growth changes in the next 4 weeks without growth scans etc 🙄

Bubbles1st · 05/08/2021 14:08

Such good news @AdventuresAwait
I hope you can enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and can't wait for your arrival

AdventuresAwait · 05/08/2021 14:22

Thank you @Bubbles1st xx

AdventuresAwait · 05/08/2021 14:47

Also, I'm 0.3kg less than I was at my booking appointment. That seems strange to me. Anyone else?

Bubbles1st · 05/08/2021 15:13

@AdventuresAwait not really, I bet your diet has had a huge change and reduction in sugar and carbs comes with a reduction in calories, combined with baby taking all the good stuff for themselves.

Did you have the extra weight to lose?

I'm still only 2kg more than my booking appointment, yet at 26 weeks when diagnosed I was already 4kg over, so I've lost that and more I'm sure as baby has grown. By the time he is here I will definitely be the lightest I've been in about 3 years!

AdventuresAwait · 05/08/2021 15:20

Thanks @Bubbles1st. Yes my BMI was 39 on booking so I had weight to lose. And yes, big changes to my diet, that's true. So not to worry, but a good thing I guess. I was just surprised. I will try and keep it up when baby is here.

Scotti84 · 05/08/2021 15:33

Great news @AdventuresAwait on the home stretch now!

My weights dropped off a bit too since the GD diagnosis, my doc asked me if i was dieting at my last appt... well not to lose weight but give me GD and its as good as the same diet i guess!

Its kind of strange to think its all coming to an end (or a start) isnt it!

Bubbles1st · 05/08/2021 15:54

Having a brain fart.... my fasting reading this morning was 5.3

For you is that over target or target?

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 05/08/2021 18:22

That would be just on target for me. I think mine have to be below 5.4
