Just a little group for the ladies with GD to talk, ask all the questions and be there for each other

@CherLW and @DressyGerbera, so after last night, my morning reading was fine! But after breakfast it was 8.8! Have text the nurse to see what she says. Not sure if it could be the take away after 2 readings that were within range or just a blip after not drinking much water with/after breakfast.. (one of my usual breakfasts).

CherLW · 02/07/2021 10:47

Thanks @DressyGerbera I hope that yours went ok!
I’m happy if they want me to have to baby no later than the due date but I’m hoping for a September baby (completely understand if I couldn’t) but if all is ok I would rather wait.
I just hope the people I see are nice and the scan goes well. I had a growth scan 2 weeks ago for reduced movements and baby was perfect for his age so hopefully that’s continued 🤞🏼

That's good to know @DressyGerbera. I have my consultant appointment on Thursday. The nurse already told me they I'll need an induction before 39 weeks and they won't 'allow' me to go past 39! I'm ready with my questions/reasons for avoiding induction and will see what they say.

CherLW · 02/07/2021 10:49

@AdventuresAwait hopefully the nurse can offer some reassurance about the higher reading. There is so much unknown isn’t there! I don’t get when I do the same kind of things/same meals and the readings are so different!

OP posts:
DressyGerbera · 02/07/2021 11:25

@AdventuresAwait i agree it doesn't sound likely it's the takeaway if you had two good readings afterwards. hopefully the nurse can reassure you. and good luck with your appointment too!

@CherLW thanks! scans and all were fine, which is why I was a bit Hmm when they started using language like protocol, allowed etc. they were nice enough but always good to question if you're not comfortable (clearly i've been reading too much on the BRAIN techniques!)

Scotti84 · 02/07/2021 11:36

They told me that things like sleep or lack of, and stress can also make a difference to the readings, I think theres so many factors that can effect it its not always possible to either keep it completely in check or understand the changes. Would make life easier if it was simpler!

AdventuresAwait · 02/07/2021 12:17

So @CherLW, @DressyGerbera the nurse text me back and said very unlikely to be the Chinese as morning reading was good. So just one of those things. Said not to worry if it's a one off (all others good at the moment).

@Scotti84 that's good to know as I was awake a lot in the night. Just can't sleep between 2 and 5 since nights.. anyone else?

I also definitely didn't drink much water with my breakfast which I usually do so must remember that.

But glad I can treat myself to the occasional take way now!

AdventuresAwait · 02/07/2021 12:27

@CherLW, @DressyGerbera, the BRAIN technique is great, keep with it! It's important we ask questions and make choices together I think. I've got reasons that I'd rather have a section over an induction and will be explaining those (even though I didn't want a c section at the beginning and would have avoided it if possible!). Friends told me to trust your instinct, research and don't be pressured into anything. I will of course listen to their advice as I want best for baby but I also want to see how the scans and bloods go. I would much rather wait until 39 weeks if possible. Looking forward to talking it through with them.

bewitchingnight · 02/07/2021 12:29

That's good news @AdventuresAwait ! I have trouble sleeping too since being pregnant, never used to have any trouble! Always awake for at least some of the time between 3 and 5.

That's good to know @DressyGerbera I don't have a consultant appointment or scan until next week and nobody has ever mentioned anything about birth options so I worry I am going to get bamboozled by whatever they say

AdventuresAwait · 02/07/2021 12:38

It's frustrating isn't it @bewitchingnight, especially if it can affect the blood results. My appointment for scan and consultant is next week too. Slightly anxious but also keen to hear what they say.

DressyGerbera · 02/07/2021 12:49

@AdventuresAwait that's great news from the nurse, well done!

i haven't had that but have been waking up just after 5 lately. i try to go back to sleep though but usually end up on my phone for a bit! i really should do more reading on c -sections and what it (and the recovery) involves, it's been on my to do list but haven't got round to it yet

DressyGerbera · 02/07/2021 12:50

@bewitchingnight i had that conversation after my 32 week scan, so maybe they haven't raised that just yet for you if you're not that far along?

bewitchingnight · 02/07/2021 13:49

Not next week, two weeks 🤦🏻‍♀️ that was wishful thinking! Ah that makes sense @DressyGerbera I'll be 32 weeks by then

AdventuresAwait · 02/07/2021 14:05

Thanks @DressyGerbera, and my lunch reading was 4.5 so back to normal so hopefully just a one off.

GWhiteley · 02/07/2021 18:21

@AdventuresAwait with the chow mein you had, was it a chicken one? I could totally go for that if I though my husband would let me... to be fair to him my emotions have been all over the place when I've had bad readings so I get why he's saying stick to the healthy stuff for now

I went & got my metformin that they want me to take at lunchtime - but my readings for the past 2 days have been pretty good apart from one bad fasting reading yesterday. So have requested a call back to discuss before starting to take them as if I don't need to I'd like to avoid them

I haven't had my consultant or 2nd growth scan yet, it's on the 21st July, but if they think they're going to bully me they've got a surprise coming up! The diabetes nurse has already told me they can guide but not force something, so we'll see

AdventuresAwait · 02/07/2021 20:22

@GWhiteley, I had one with different meats. Nurse is confident it did not affect my readings as all have been good today apart from after breakfast. She said it would have affected my evening or morning reading & they were both good. It's good to be cautious though, I just needed a treat.

I've not had a growth scan yet so anxious to see how she's doing on Thursday. And yes, absolutely, they can only advise us. Have they said 38 weeks to you too? (Sorry I think you've said but I'm losing track of who was advised what!)

GWhiteley · 02/07/2021 20:32

@AdventuresAwait the diabetes midwife said that I wouldn't now be able to go beyond 40 weeks & if I went on metformin then they would potentially pull my due date forward a week & if I went on insulin they would pull it forward by 2 weeks. I did make it clear that really I want to go full term if I can as I want the baby born in sept, but was happy to listen to guidance if doing so harmed the baby. I also stressed I don't want a c section unless the baby is struggling & she said those are things to talk to the consultant about.

I'll know more at the next growth scan as by then they'll have two scans to compare & we'll know if she's growing too fast or big

AdventuresAwait · 02/07/2021 20:47

Yes @GWhiteley, I'm the same about September. My trust say not to go past 39 weeks, as soon as you start medication. They said it's regardless of whether it's 1 tablet or insulin 3 times a day. Strange how it changes per trust. But I'm on insulin once a day so according to the advice you were given, I would still be advised 38 weeks which is interesting. I'm pushing for a section at 38+5 or more if she has to come early. Really hoping the growth scan is OK this week.

CherLW · 02/07/2021 20:49

@AdventuresAwait glad you got some reassurance from the nurse and your lunch reading was back to normal! Excellent news!
I think your appointment is the day after mine isn’t it? I feel the same, nervous but interested to see what they say.

What is the BRAIN technique?

OP posts:
GWhiteley · 02/07/2021 20:54

@AdventuresAwait so our trusts are almost the same, but they all do seem to be slightly different. Like clothes stores, one size doesn't fit all even though it should!

Good luck with your scan this week coming, let us know how you get on.

AdventuresAwait · 02/07/2021 21:26

@CherLW, thanks! Yes I think my appointment is the day after yours. It is my first growth scan and appointment. Is it yours?

BRAIN is an acronym for prompts to help consider the suggestion or advice given.

This explains it quite well:

AdventuresAwait · 02/07/2021 21:27

Thanks @GWhiteley, I will. It's good you've already had one so they have something to compare when you have your next scan.

Bubbles1st · 03/07/2021 07:28

My fasting this morning is 5.1!!

Finally below target. Not sure if it was the walk before bedtime or now being on 7units of insulin. Either way feel good about.

AdventuresAwait · 03/07/2021 07:42

Yay @Bubbles1st, celebrating with you 🥳

DressyGerbera · 03/07/2021 08:00

Yay well done @Bubbles1st!!

My trust has a different timelines whether it's the tablet or insulin - it's the same as Gwhiteley's. Where were you all planning to start your mat leave? I was meant to be off work from 38 weeks but now getting a bit sick of it all!
