Hi all, first time posting on here

I had an early scan this morning at what I thought was 8+2, only to be told that I'm measuring 5+4 with no sign of a heartbeat 😔 is it possible to measure that far behind? Is there any hope at all with this one?

I have had 2 miscarriages and a chemical pregnancy since Jan 2021, and cannot believe this may be happening again.

My CRL was 3.7 mm
Gestational sac: 11×15×15 mm

Ovaries looked healthy

Her comment was "5 week pregnancy sac and possible yolk sac and fetal pole no more than 5 and a half weeks, no obvious heartbeat"

I would be so grateful for any thoughts, especially if you had had a similar experience 🙏😔

Do you know your dates are correct?

JessSpurls · 17/06/2021 12:46

Thank you for replying, I believe I ovulated around May 5th (bbt tracking, ovulation tests), my last period was technically a chemical pregnancy, which started April 21st.. I do tend to ovulate a bit late (CD 17/18), but we didn't do the deed at all after May 6th so even if it was delayed, sperm can only survive for 5 days or so.. so feeling quite confused

I had the same situation and it was unfortunately a bad outcome. They told me that I must have my dates wrong but as I had a positive test 3 weeks before the scan I knew I couldn't be 3 weeks out, it just didn't add up.
Are you going back for a rescan?

DeadSouth · 17/06/2021 13:01

This happened to my sister and she’d just ovulated the day before her period would have been due and she has had a positive outcome, if you contact your EPU they should do a follow up scan in a fortnight to check for heartbeat and growth.

JessSpurls · 17/06/2021 13:01

😔 so sorry to hear this, it must be the worst feeling in the world

They've recommended I have another scan in 2 weeks, which coincides with my booking appointment 😔

Thank you for this bit of hope, yes they're due to call me today to book a second scan in later this month 🙏

@JessSpurls I had the same situation and am currently cuddling baby in bed! No idea where my period went for the 8 weeks prior but when I went back baby was there plain as day. I got myself in for an earlier scan by pleading so was scanned a week later when there was a clear heartbeat.

JessSpurls · 17/06/2021 13:06

Thank you so much, I'm really praying it's okay x

I'm sorry this is happening, it's so awful to have to wait around for the outcome not knowing for sure if it is or isn't.

For me it sadly didn't work out. I was measuring about 3 weeks behind, although there was a heartbeat. Although I held on to the little bit of hope I knew it wasn't possible as I hadn't got my dates wrong. 2 weeks later the next scan showed no heartbeat and no growth. The miscarriage started two days later.

Londontown12 · 17/06/2021 13:07

My son was. 21 yesterday ! When I was pregnant I had early scan and there wasn’t heart beat and my sac was breaking away I was told I was having a threatened miscarriage so I went home and didn’t move off the sofa to do anything for a week got rescanned 10 days later ans they found a heartbeat and sac was all ok ! Just try to have positive thoughts I know it’s very hard sending u lots of hugs 🤗 xxx

JessSpurls · 17/06/2021 13:12

I'm so sorry you went through this too, thank you for sharing x

That must have been such a scary experience, I'm so pleased things turned out well for you. I really hope I'll be this lucky too x

I was told that by seven weeks they should see a heartbeat. So if you were now 5+4, presuming the dates are wrong then any scan after 7+0 (so in 9 days time or later) will at least give you a conclusive answer.
That’s all we can say at this point I think. I’m so sorry you’re having to wait like this.

If it does turn out to be a bad outcome please do consider pushing for extra care, in that I think three consecutive miscarriages warrants some medical monitoring.

JessSpurls · 17/06/2021 13:36

That's what I have been telling myself, really hope it is just a case of wrong dates

Thank you for replying x

Sorry to hear this. I really do hope it turns out well for you but waiting 2 weeks must be torture.

The only thing that might be some sort of blessing is that I believe (in my area anyway) they will start investigations after 3 miscarriages so you could find you have a problem with low progesterone etc.

🤞🏻 for you x

JessSpurls · 17/06/2021 13:51

Thank you for replying, I feel so lost 😔

I paid privately for progesterone and thyroid tests- both normal but progesterone was slightly low. I mentioned this to 4 different NHS doctors saying that I had had 3 losses already and not one of them did anything 😔 moments like this I don't feel proud to work for the NHS (though I work in mental health)

Aw. If you need to, flap the NICE guidelines in their faces.

Hope you don’t need to though. Good luck.

Sophiederuges · 17/06/2021 14:07

@JessSpurls What do you mean by your thyroid levels were “normal”? Because as an autoimmune thyroiditis sufferer, I know there’s a huge difference between what is considered “normal” on paper and what is optimal for fertility and well-being.

Also did you go to a high street scan place or was it done at the EPU/private maternity wing?

Sophiederuges · 17/06/2021 14:08

@JessSpurls And I meant to add, I am genuinely sorry for what you had to go through. I mean it. I had an mmc myself and the thought of having to go through it 3+ times is horrifying Flowers

JessSpurls · 17/06/2021 14:27

Hi Sophie,

Thank you for replying, these were my thyroid results:

The results of your thyroid function tests are as follows:

TSH: 1.35 mU/l (normal range is 0.27-4.2 mU/l )

Free T4 15.0 pmol/l (normal range is 12.0-22.0 pmol/l)

Free T3 4.3 pmol/l (normal range is 3.1-6.8 pmol/l)

This means that all your results have come back in the normal range and your tests do not show any signs of thyroid problems.

They seemed okay but you're right, I wouldn't know what is optimal for pregnancy 😔

Thank you so much for replying, I initially thought this too, but she said 5+4 was my gestational age, meaning I would have got my "3+" on clearblue digital at 6dpo.. so can't see this going well 😔

jojojo82 · 17/06/2021 14:50

Oh sorry, I'm getting my dates wrong ... the 5+4 should be your last period ... I was hoping everything was easily explainable for you.

JessSpurls · 17/06/2021 14:51

No problem, I keep doing that too

Thank you anyway xx

Did you notice any changes in your pregnancy symptoms between 5w and now?
