Labour with no warning signs?

I'm due anytime now and so far have had no "signs" whatsoever. Anyone on here gone into labour with no warning/twinges? Just curious.

I did, although in retrospect I had diarrhoea that morning which may have been a sign. There was no build up, just - WHAM - massive contraction then another 5 minutes later so I was in no doubt it was labour !

Second time I had a show 15 minutes before the contractions started but again very little warning. Both were easy labours (relatively).

wrinklytum · 18/11/2007 19:45

Is this your first?

My birth with no 2 was a lot quicker than 1,first stages to second stages very quick, about 1 hour.

No 1 was a long drawn out first stage.

You will know when it happens. My first indication with no 1 was excruciating back pain (was a back lie) with no 2 I had a show and contractions soon after.HTH good luck

goingfor3 · 18/11/2007 19:48

I didn't have any braxton hicks or any other signs with the girls I just went into labour.

sarahloumadam · 18/11/2007 20:08

Thanks all - seems as though you can just go into labour then; lots of people on my thread having lots of cramps, back pain etc and I just wondered if it was possible to skip all that - eek! It is my first and it is very strange not knowing what to expect but I suppose every labour is different anyway.

no warning signs with dd1

My mil (and I believe it does happen to a few lucky ones) didn't even feel any of her contractions! Just wish she hadn't old me that a few hours after I'd pushed out dd1.

fawkeoff · 18/11/2007 20:16

i was just lying in bed, minding my own business when i got almighty contractions.it was my second viable pregnancy and was totally out of the blue.dp didnt even belive i was in labour so wouldnt take me to the hospital....then when he agrred he stopped at the garage for a drink then when we arrived he told the midwife i wasn't in labour so she left me for an hour

sarahloumadam · 18/11/2007 20:20

!!! Think I'm just going to finish packing my bag!

OP posts:
RGPargy · 18/11/2007 20:28

lol sarah! I only did my bag the other day too, and even then it's only been packed half-heartedly coz i'm having this baby at home!

I remember with DS that i had no warning signs, other than my waters breaking. I'm hoping that they'll go again first this time around, rather than having niggles and thinking "is it? isn't it?". At least when your waters go, you KNOW you're going into labour!

claireybraxtonhicks · 18/11/2007 20:35

With dd I didn't have any signs, waters went, contractions started 15 mins later (5 mins apart straight away) then had diarrhoea. Never had a show or BH with her

LindaCymru · 21/11/2007 09:46

There I was fast asleep....woke up at 12.40am thinking "Hmm, is that my waters?" Yup. Thought I ought to time the contractions I then felt, I thought I was a bit too tired to do it properly as they seemed to all be at once. At 1am I woke DH and called Labour Ward as there was a little blood in my waters they said to come in. Good job to really as DS was born at 2.21am!!

So in answer to your post...no signs before that!

I'd get an old cushion or pad for the car tho - our passenger seat ended up covered in amniotic fluid - lovely!

lou33 · 21/11/2007 09:51

i miss out the first gentle stage of labour and go into full on contractions on top of each other

the longest labour i had was 2hrs 20, the shortest 22 mins

no warning i was about to pop

zuzkah · 21/11/2007 11:03

Interesting thread! Im 40+5 with no signs that my DS would want to come out anytime soon. Now Im filled with hope that it might just start and hopefully be over anytime soon and I might join the club of you lucky girls giving birth so quickly.
Sarahloumadam - when are you due?

talktothebees · 21/11/2007 13:14

I was 40+5 when I went into labour with no real warning. Went to bed at 10.30pm and was woken up an hour later with contractions. Not that I would believe they were contractions. DP was begging me to phone the labour ward - "they're 3 minutes apart, please phone them!!" I was convinced they couldn't be contractions because "first labours don't start like this." I'd imagined wafting round the house for hours watching telly and eating bicuits till things heated up. Ha! I even have an email from about 4.30pm that day where I tell DP he can relax as there's no signs of anything happening and he'll get his lie-in in the morning. Poor b*gger didn't get to bed at all that night.....

MerlinsBeard · 21/11/2007 14:42

I was quite achy at the end of my pregnancy with ds2 but went to bed at 40+4 and woke at 3:30am with HUGE comtractions. DP rang my mum to come look after ds1 and labour ward, went in and was 9 cms! DS2 was born at 4:37am!!

Mercy · 21/11/2007 14:46

Similar to Lou, especially with my 2nd,

(but my waters had broken first in both cases so I did really know that labour was imminent)

RGPargy · 21/11/2007 15:36

The only thing that worries me is having enough time to fill the pool!!

sarahhal · 21/11/2007 15:38

No signs for number one with me either sarahlou! Waters broke whilst sitting on sofa, straight into contractions minutes apart, DS born five hours later!!

Mrsei25 · 21/11/2007 15:49

SLM i wouldnt worry too much about the no signs! when i was pg wit my DD i had braxton hicks from about 34 weeks and i still didnt pop til 40 +11!! my friend had no signs whatsoever and had her DS at 39 weeks!! it is pointless (imo) to spend all your time and energy watchin out for signs or readin too much into signs as ( hold on tight big cliche a-comin) the baby will come when its ready and you will know when it is the real deal!!
i know how frustrating it is when its your first as my DD is my first (were ttc for number 2 in our brood!!) and i could have slapped everyone who said that to me but its true and i think i would have enjoyed the last peaceful weeks of my pregnancy if i had took it on board HTH

MrsBadger · 21/11/2007 16:01

mine was a bit like talktothebees

9pm - posting on MN
11pm - odd cramp, thought nothing of it, went to bed
1.30am - 30s contractions 3min apart
8am - dd born
5.30pm - posting on MN again...

sarahloumadam · 21/11/2007 19:05

Hi all, was due yesterday! Had loads of crampy period-type pains today and thought whoo-hoo - here we go! But no joy. This thread has made me feel very zen-like about imminent labour - it will happen when he is ready and lets face it - it will all be over in the next couple of weeks. Thanks for all your posts .

P.S. only thing - I would like to avoid Friday 23rd as is FILs birthday and I would never hear the end of it so whats the odds that he choose to be born this Friday?!

OP posts:
Peachy · 21/11/2007 19:15

Oh he will be- I didnt want to have DS3 on my friends Son's baptism day... guess when he was born. And the friend never forgave me!!

No warning signs really for any of my 3, don't expect any with thisone either. Waters and show as I went into transition.

jem1969 · 26/11/2007 18:04

I had no idea I was in labour with my DD and she is my first baby. Went to hospital as I had a stomach ache and I was 36wks pg and thought something might be wrong and they told me I was 6 cm dilated. She was born 6 hours later. Everyone told me you 'just know' when you're in labour but I definately didn't! I think I actually had a 'show' a couple of days before but didn't realise that was what it was.

lemonaid · 26/11/2007 18:13

I had no signs at all (DS wasn't even engaged), then my waters went and contractions started. The first stage did take ages, though.

yaddayule · 27/11/2007 10:34

Waters broke in my sleep (I woke up thinking I'd wet the bed!)Just made it to the hospital in time (total labour just under 2 hrs).. oh and dd was 10lb 7 oz ... no time for drugs apart from a couple of puffs of gas and air, discharged from hospital after 4 hrs (was my 2nd so hospital have a quick turn around offered)

Pretty perfect
