Anyone pooed themselves during labour? I'm a first time mum and I'm paranoid that I will 🤣

Not me but my friend did.
She didn’t know and they didn’t tell her untill everything was cleaned up.
It’s very common tbh and midwives are used to it so don’t worry!

Iworry2021 · 24/05/2021 17:54

No, but I farted throughout my labour 🙈

rbetty · 24/05/2021 17:55

@Moonshine11 yeah I have been told it's quite common, I would be mortified if I dropped one in the pool 🤣

No, but I farted throughout my labour 🙈
Yes! I blamed the gas and air 😂🙄
rbetty · 24/05/2021 17:55

@Iworry2021 I can't stop laughing 😂

This is literally the most asked questions in MN.

And the answer is: everyone poos during labour.

rbetty · 24/05/2021 17:58

@HelpfulBelle will they wipe you? Or leave you dirty? Sorry tmi but I need to know these things 🤣

OP posts:
HelpfulBelle · 24/05/2021 17:58

(And if people say they didn't, then nobody told them that they did!!)

8monthsinandcranky · 24/05/2021 17:59

I had an epidural after many hours of labour and shortly before we began pushing I said to midwife I was worried I’d poo myself

She announced she’s already checked and my colon was empty Grin obviously the epidural was working as I had no idea she’d checked!

Honestly by the point you’re pushing you won’t care. You should be worrying about tearing not about pooing!

HelpfulBelle · 24/05/2021 17:59

They wipe you. My second was in a pool so just floated around and they caught it in a net Grin

HelpfulBelle · 24/05/2021 18:00

I also got bollocked about my pregnancy piles by the midwife who was stitching me up Hmm she told me I obviously had a bad diet

MonkeyPuddle · 24/05/2021 18:01

I farted up the arm of the midwife while she did an vaginal exam.

CorpusCallosum · 24/05/2021 18:03

Yup, I was laughing with DH about the one time I did and he very sheepishly said "it was more than once" 😂 honestly; no one cares.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 24/05/2021 18:09

Yes, they'll wipe you. And you won't even know you've done it. Don't give it a second thought.

KnitNurse · 24/05/2021 18:26

I think everyone does it. It fills me with dread too. But experiencing forcep deliveries in theatre we wipe it away and it is not even mentioned x

3JsMa · 24/05/2021 18:35

4 kids and didn't notice Grin
Witnessed hundreds of births and there was only one when decent quantity came out.Normally, when the baby's head is descending it presses on the bowels(and blocks it) so there may be tiny amount that manages to escape but as I said,it's rather rare.
There is natural reason that many women have mild diarrhoea before proper labour starts,it helps to empty the bowels and make pushing stage less stressful for the mum.

Verbena87 · 24/05/2021 18:37

Loads. Nobody cared and they didn’t leave me dirty.

LemonLemonLemon · 24/05/2021 18:37

I know for sure I didn’t. I had a loose stomach the day before and
vomited through the full 15 hour labour, so I was empty! Would rather have pooed myself than all that Grin

TheFormidableMrsC · 24/05/2021 18:41

I did with both of mine. It's hardly a surprise with that amount of pressure. Midwives see this all the time, don't give it a second thought!

Aprilwasverywet · 24/05/2021 18:42

Oo like hook a poop?
Grin

elephantnel · 24/05/2021 18:44

My partner said I did, I had no idea though!
I was slightly mortified when he told me, but he said out everything he saw, that was the least gross ha ha

Bigoldmachine · 24/05/2021 18:56

I had no idea til after the baby was born, but yes, in the pool. The midwife very kindly snapped a first cuddle of baby picture in the pool, which no-one will ever see the colour version of. Black and white hides a multitude of stuff floating in the pool Envy

You won’t be able to help it if you do poo so don’t spend energy worrying about it.

Fitforforty · 24/05/2021 18:58

Yep, but the midwife at the time kept referring to me as a goodness and honestly I never felt so good about myself as in those moments. I was only aware of it because the one of the midwives was wiping me. It was weird time.

SillyBry · 24/05/2021 19:20

The midwife told me they get excited when the poo comes as it means it’s getting close to baby time! 🤣🤣

It’s not like you do a big poo, you might just find a few little nuggets sneak out when you’re pushing. Totally normal and they just wipe you and carry on!

JustYourAverageSue · 24/05/2021 19:30

This was a big worry of mine when I had my baby 5 weeks ago, and as cliched as it is to say it, you really won't give a shit (pun intended) when you're pushing a baby out of your foo. I don't expect you to believe me, as I wouldn't believe anyone that told me the same thing when I asked. They'll just clean you up without a seconds thought and you'll probably not even know it happened. The worst for me was right at the end when I started vomiting vast amounts and it ended up all over my poor DP who was holding the stupid bowl under my chin. Confused
