Anyone pooed themselves during labour? I'm a first time mum and I'm paranoid that I will 🤣

Midwife here. I would say 80% of women poo, it’s usually when pushing or very close to. Baby’s head pushes it down and it’s a positive sign. No one cares at all.
Volume wise goes from mucousy blobs of poo to massive logs 🤣

Fluffyslippers123 · 24/05/2021 20:05

I did. I remember being upset and telling my midwife I’d pooped and she said I hadn’t but I could smell it and felt her wipe it away 😂

Amongst the whole process it was a drop in the ocean. They don’t care. It’s a good sign things are progressing and very much a part of their job

I know I didn't because when I went into transition I went to the toilet because I felt baby's head pressing down. Very nearly had him in there!

@Mummyme87 out of curiosity is it something that midwives themselves worry about when it comes to their own births? So many women worry about it but are told it’s not a big deal by midwives and to not stress over it, that I’ve always wondered whether midwives genuinely don’t give it a second thought when they have their own babies.

Mummyme87 · 24/05/2021 20:26

@maryjosephandtheweedonkey I’ve had two babies and I can’t say it’s anything I have a second thought about. I gave birth at my trust also, so he friends/colleagues caring for me

GalaxyGirl24 · 24/05/2021 20:50

Nope! I was worried about this too and was adamant and so so anxious that I would definitely sh*t myself in labour after reading so many Mumsnet posts 😭 I was also sure I'd get 3rd degree tears as I have sensitive and weak skin (no tears at all, I did practise with an Aniball tbf). You may, you may not. You won't be that bothered in the grand scheme of things when you likely never see that midwife again! And when you've got a squidgy baby to cuddle
