Hi
Mum of a gorgeous 2.5 year old girl....and wondering if we should try for another?
Only thing is I'll be 43 in August and I'm wondering if it's too late and that's far too old to try....
I don't know any older mums....

Anyone had a second later on?

Thanks mums Smile

I had my first baby at 44. He's just turned 3 months and is happy and healthy.

My brother was born when my mum was 45 (no IVF or anything). So it's definitely possible.

Mumof1andacat · 22/05/2021 06:56

A person I worked with fell pregnant natually with her 4th at 45 and gave birth at 46. It was fine.

Hello there. I am 44 years old and 8 weeks pregnant. I will be 45 when this little sprout enters the world. It was unexpected and unplanned. I thought I was going through perimenopause! My older sons are almost 22 and 24 years old now, so there is quite a gap in my pregnancy experience. I have mixed emotions about it right now, but I think it will be just fine. It's definitely possible! :)

georgarina · 22/05/2021 07:39

Can't know until you try?

It is rare but it can happen

DinkyDaisy · 22/05/2021 07:44

I was a week or so off 43 when I had my second. Straight forward pregnancy.
The only thing I found was that I got more attention as over 40 and that they wouldn't let me go over 40 weeks. This was triggered by age only as all medical checks ok.
I am aware I am lucky and wish you all the best.

springseason22 · 22/05/2021 12:25

Well that does change things Smile

Thank you for all your comments.

Well yes - won't know unless I try!

Ahhhh!

43 here and 33 weeks pregnant with number 3. DCs 1 and 2 (twins) were born when I was 41. It's been the best two years of my life - definitely not too old if you are fit, healthy and active 😊

DramaAlpaca · 22/05/2021 12:30

My friend had her first at 43 and her second at 44, another friend had her one and only at 43. No fertility treatment needed for either of them.

Go for it if you want to Smile

If your body is still making babies then it's not too old. I think it's a different story when women need lots of intervention - donated eggs due to egg deterioration , etc. But if it happens naturally then it can't be too old!

Chelyanne · 22/05/2021 13:03

No need to say no more simply because you are over a certain age.
If you feel physically able and can conceive naturally then I really don't see a problem. Many will tell you it's unfair on a child as you could die earlier in their life but that can happen to parents of any age.

Definately · 22/05/2021 15:32

Whenever you hit the menopause is the limit I suppose! Depends how fit and healthy you are too.

RickiTarr · 22/05/2021 15:39

That’s a bit unkind, as well as irrational. Either 43 is “too old” or it’s not.

Any age at which a woman might possibly have a baby naturally can’t really be too old for a woman to have a baby, can it? Some women naturally conceive into their late 40s.

It is rare but it can happen

Not that rare-at least 6 people on this thread alone!

gizmo167 · 24/05/2021 10:39

I'm 43 and currently 8+5. I have had 2 mc's in the past year and I like you was in the frame of mind that I was probably too old! Still early days I know for me but there is definitely hope!

sarah13xx · 24/05/2021 10:41

@HolidayGolightly omg do your older children know yet? This is amazing!

HolidayGolightly · 24/05/2021 11:21

@sarah13xx Yes, they know. They think it is bizarre, but are fine with it. They are university graduates, with their own lives, own houses, etc., so it will be an unusual dynamic. I figured I'd be looking towards grandmotherhood soon. ;)

Bizawit · 24/05/2021 16:10

My colleague accidentally fell preg with her first at 45! Baby’s about 18 months now :).

sundowners · 24/05/2021 16:15

Crack on with it and get going now!
Give it everything each month. Look at supplements/fertility lube/acupunctured etc.

everydaysablessing · 24/05/2021 16:24

25 weeks with my second aged 44

I'm not going to lie, it was hard to get here. I had three mc and after tests know my eggs are depleted. But it can happen.

It's mostly rare because many women aren't trying at that age, not just cos biologically challenging.

Wish44 · 28/05/2021 19:49

Go for it!

I am 22 weeks at 44 years old”It took 3 years and 3 miscarriages... but my view was that I would rather try and risk failure than not try at all and always wonder “what if”

My reading of the statistics is that in your 40’s it will take longer to get pregnant and you are more likely to miscarry but it is still totally possible if you can put up with the wait and the losses on the way.

Good luck!

haveaday · 28/05/2021 20:02

I'm 43 and have a 5 month old. Fell pregnant first try at 42 and a half. It's not as rare as people make out.

CameraCoffeeCrochet · 01/06/2021 09:26

I'm 42 and 7 weeks pregnant so will be 43 when it's born. Conceived quicker than I expected as well. My partner is now saying he'd like us to have two 😆 I think he forgets I'm old sometimes!

Aprilwasverywet · 01/06/2021 09:40

Gave birth at 43.2..ttc a year later but sadly 3 chemicals and a mmc at 8 weeks days before I turned 45.. Gave up.

Extrahotcoffee · 01/06/2021 16:17

Hi I'm 43 on August, I have a 6 year old. I am just recovering from a miscarriage. I had a termination last year for medical reason. At my low points I feel like I should give up as I feel like it be nothing short of miracle if I had another child at my age and history..this thread is comforting knowing other women of similar age have been successful x
