When did your period return after a MMC?

Hey ladies,

I know everyone is different, however I had an ERPC or a “D&C” Friday (unsure what the correct term is sorry) for a missed miscarriage... I was 12w when I had the procedure but the baby’s heartbeat stopped around 9w they believe.

I was just wondering how long did it take for your first AF to arrive? Aware it depends on how far gone you were and peoples bodies heal
at different paces etc. But would just love to know what people’s experiences were and timelines for AF.

Usually a couple of weeks after a negative home pregnancy test.
I've had miscarriages between 8 & 12wk and it was similar times for them all, mc to negative test varied quite a bit though.

Mine came after 8 weeks.

It didn’t, I got pg a week after my d&C with a very similar timeline to yours.

My period came 43 days after my erpc.

I also should have added that I had my erpc at 12 weeks.

I had a MMC this year, my period came back 4 weeks after the procedure x

Hi @AlwaysSeekingComfort - firstly, I am really so sorry for your loss.

I had an MMC in November. Baby was 8+5, discovered at 9+1, and I had an ERPC a couple of days later at the end of that month.

I tested positive on pregnancy tests for about three weeks, then I think I ovulated as soon as tests were no longer showing positive, and got my period two weeks after that. So five weeks from surgical management to my period returning. That first period was quite strange, very light and stop start, not like my usual ones. Also apart from one afternoon, it was strangely painless. Physical recovery from the ERPC was fine but I did experience some baby blues, as well as the shock and grief from what had happened. I felt quite fragile for a while, and hormonally a bit off until my period had been and gone.

I'm now 19 weeks pregnant again after conceiving the next cycle. Sending you lots of love and luck. If you need anything, I'm around and happy to answer any more questions or speak more.

Baby died 11 weeks, discovered 12+1, surgery at 13+6. Took 9 weeks to get a period.

I had a MMC in august 2020 and had the surgical management under LA and my period came exactly 28 days from the procedure date. I had a negative test about a week after the procedure too. Much love x

@Moonshine11 yes! After being told to j ust wait after 2 and 3 months, they’ve finally sent me for blood tests and then a scan x

Thanks so much for all of your responses above! So I’m abit confused... I had D&C exactly a week ago today. I lost a lot of blood during the procedure (as per the nurse, more than they would have liked) and only bled afterwards for 1 day. Didn’t have any bleeding at all since. However I’ve woken up today bleeding and now I’ve got like light period cramps. Is this my period already or is this just a delayed result of the D&C still?

Have you took a preg test to make sure your at a negative to make sure no retained tissue?
It does seem early for a period already.

@Moonshine11 no I haven’t. I will order some today on Amazon and test tomorrow. If it is “negative”, is there a chance it could be my period already do you think?

I had a mmc at 12 weeks (measuring 8 on the scan) with medical management and bled for like 6 weeks on and off. I had a break of about a week then started bleeding again for about 4 days then was waiting for my first period which never came... got pg days after that second bleed had stopped (the scan dates suggest) so I don’t know if it counted as a period or not...!

@Narwhalsh oh wow really? I mean the period cramps have got a bit more intense (not painful though) and this may be TMI but when I get my period usually I get a bit of a dodgy stomach if you know what I mean.... which I have had this morning! So if I was never pregnant and hadn’t of had a D&C last week etc, I would be convinced this is my period... will see what the PG test says tomorrow if it’s negative and will see how long I bleed for now (usually with AF I bleed for around 5 days).

Yeah if it’s negative and you bleed for afew days I would class as period!

So I took a test (a first response early detection one) and it come up positive but the line was not very dark, was faint. So this can’t be AF then.

Hey all… me again….

So I did a preg test on Friday (as it was exactly 3weeks since surgery) and it was stark white negative. This morning I woke up and had a bellyache and am now bleeding and have some lower back ache. Would you now class this as my period even though it’s only been 3 & a half weeks since my surgery?

It’s so confusing isn’t as you have no idea what is what!
But yeah you’ve had afew weeks break so I would class this as period now.
I’m guessing your bleed last time was just your body getting rid of it after D&C if you only bled for 1 day after.

Yes so I only bled for 1 day after…. Then had a little bleed for a couple days (a week after the D&C) then haven’t bled since apart from now
