We took the plunge and booked our gender scan for next weekend. We’ve toyed around with finding our (husband is a firm yes, I wasn’t sure) but I think it will help my son adjust knowing it’s ‘baby sister or baby brother’ and I think for my husband it makes it feel more real.

I’ve been having a browse at tiny baby clothes too 💔 I forget how cute and tiny and sweet they are (until they get thrown up on!)

JW2021 · 01/07/2021 14:42

I had some good news today! After the OB freaked me out by saying the NP measured 2.1 which is the high part of normal 👿so suggested the $400 genetic test for DS……it came back Low Risk - At this point I’d pay $4,000 ! I’m feeling ecstatic - gender is waiting for us in an envelope at the drs office - so having a mini party with my family on Sun July 4th here in the USA! 🇺🇸

burtle4 · 01/07/2021 14:58

That's lovely news @JW2021, you must be feeling over the moon!

@LAR96 I was quite surprised they offered me a scan, especially since we had one last time I was spotting as well and it didn't show a cause for it. The sonographer was so lovely though and said that she'd much rather be safe than sorry and that even if it just puts my mind at rest it's worth it ❤ The midwife I spoke to after though said that unless anything changes with the spotting they won't see me again before 20 week scan as they're putting it down to the low lying placenta x

LAR96 · 01/07/2021 15:55

@burtle4 yes its really good of them! Hopefully spotting will subside, maybe get a doppler then that could keep you at ease until 20 week scan :) xx

JW2021 · 01/07/2021 16:08

Thank you! Yes I’m more than relieved
BTW how many weeks are you Burtle4 & Lar96? Just curious 🤷🏼I’ll be 15 on Saturday

Curlymam88 · 01/07/2021 16:08

@LAR96 my doppler came today....can not find my little baby anywhere. I think they're curled up hiding somewhere. Maybe ill try again later this evening when babys more active. Can pick up my heartbeat though!! I've read it takes some getting used to.

LAR96 · 01/07/2021 16:19

@Curlymam88 ahh lovely, this is why I am worried about getting one, I would probably panic if I couldn't find the heartbeat haha! let me know if you have any joy later!

@JW2021 Ill be 16 weeks on Monday :)

burtle4 · 01/07/2021 16:25

@LAR96 I have a doppler from my previous pregnancies and it's been a godsend! On Friday when the spotting started up again I was able to use it and at least reassure myself that baby was in there so I wasn't too nervous for the scan yesterday. I just find it an extra bit of reassurance before you start feeling baby moving! @Curlymam88 I wouldn't worry if you can't find it yet, there is a real knack to it and it also helps if your placenta is posterior. One thing I would say is that you'd be surprised how low down you have to look for it - literally just above the pubic bone and you need to press quite firmly in the beginning. Once you catch it it can easily move away again within seconds! Just keep trying and you'll get it eventually!
@JW2021 I'll be 16 weeks on Saturday so exactly a week ahead!

burtle4 · 01/07/2021 16:26

Ps. @JW2021 does that mean you're due Christmas Day?!

LAR96 · 01/07/2021 16:28

@burtle4 that is handy to know, never thought you would have to use it that low down!

Curlymam88 · 01/07/2021 16:39

Thanks for the tips. Smile I've been watching a few YouTube videos for some tips aswell, i usually feel flutters during evening so I'll try then. I'll let you know how I get on. I'll be 16 weeks next weds. Does anyone else feel after they've had their 12 week scan time has gone quite fast?

LAR96 · 01/07/2021 16:52

@Curlymam88 yes I think the first 12 weeks felt like forever but it's going quick now! My sister gets married in 2 weeks so had a lot of stuff on which may have made things feel faster haha! X

Curlymam88 · 01/07/2021 16:54

@LAR96 aw that's lovely! Hope she has a lovely wedding. Thats the key to keep busy, think it helps feeling less sick and more myself again.

LAR96 · 01/07/2021 16:57

@Curlymam88 ah thank you, I am sure she will :D I am feeling more myself but my stomach feels like its going to burst! Getting slight back ache now, uncomfortable to sleep! x

JW2021 · 01/07/2021 17:57

Yep Dec 25th - probably the closest thing I’ll get to a turkey that day if it happens is KFC! Although I’m not sure that they’ll be open
ha! ha!

2020mission · 01/07/2021 18:05

@Curlymam88 I'm finding time is going slow still since my 12 week scan but I think it's because they haven't bothered to tell me the NT screening results ☹️ so it's another 2 weeks until I can ask at the 16 week midwife appointment. My fear is the result is high and it's been missed and I'll find out with little time to get further testing.

How much were your dopplers ladies? I would consider it if it wasn't too expensive since it can only be useful during pregnancy which isn't for long. Although I guess you could sell it on after?

@JW2021 ohh a 4th July gender reveal sounds lovely. Glad all is well! I still haven't heard back about mines but I'm keeping positive with the whole no news is good news 🤞

@burtle4 glad you got another scan for reassurance and managed to get another photo of it too!

I'm struggling with this small bump just because it isn't obvious it's due to pregnancy - I just look like I've let myself go. My husband laughed at my little bump when I wore a clingy summer dress today 🤣 not helping!

I was convinced I was feeling quickening at 14 weeks but then read it's not possible this early with a first pregnancy? I've been feeling what feels like a pulse/twitch to the left side of my belly button now and again its happened on and off over a few days. Maybe it's just my uterus stretching? I definitely didn't feel this before and it isn't wind.

2020mission · 01/07/2021 18:06

@JW2021 I'm trying to convince myself that the maternity hospitals might serve up a Christmas dinner if you're in on the 25th 😅 unlikely though

burtle4 · 01/07/2021 18:15

@2020mission I bought mine a few years ago now but reckon I only paid about £20-30 on it, it's definitely been worth it for the early days, but guessing if you're not planning on having more and you're starting to feel movements you may not need one. I doubt I'll use it too much once I get the reassurance of kicks.

I'm due on 18th Dec and really hoping I don't end up in hospital on Christmas Day! The other two both came 2 days early so I'm hoping this one will follow suit, but it will probably be sods law and be the only one to be late 😂

tuxedocat · 01/07/2021 18:46

I’ve never used a Doppler, think I would feel much too scared if I couldn’t find anything!

Agree the weeks are flying by, I’m 15 weeks now and it feels like only yesterday I was Googling every symptom under the sun in the early weeks. I don’t miss the first trimester at all!

Curlymam88 · 01/07/2021 19:19

@LAR96 I havent slept tidy for a few weeks due to being uncomfortable and too warm.
@2020mission I have my 16 week midwife appointment next week, I've not heard anything regards to my results either. They said they would contact if any problems. So hopefully no news is good news for us?
I had food and a fizzy drink and managed to find the babys heartbeat Grin had my daughter and partner helping me and took a few videos aswell. So chuffed.
In regards to the price of the doppler I noticed amazon ones were around 40.00 but I saw exactly the same ones on ebay for alot cheaper....the one I used tonight I actually found on ebay for £13.00!! Bargain!

southernbelles · 01/07/2021 19:34

Hi all! Late joining & haven't managed to read the rest of the thread yet, but I'm due 27/12 & will be a planned c-section so likely to be around 21/12. Has been a rough first trimester & still struggling with migraines most days 🤕 have had quite a few unhelpful comments & judgements about our 'bad timing' & how December children hate their birthdays, & 'didn't time that very well did you, no one will bother with their birthday'.

For someone who struggles with long-term anxiety & desperately trying to avoid antenatal depression (had PND with my first baby & can feel those telltale feelings returning), negative & unsolicited comments are really not helping!

Other than that, we are happy & excited & know we are very lucky. Our DS (4) is very excited & keeps talking about 'his' baby & the things they'll do together 😊

Curlymam88 · 01/07/2021 20:01

@southernbelles congratulations!!
Don't listen to them...I have a DD8 who is born 20th December my EDD with this one is 22nd December. My daughter always gets a birthday aswell as Xmas so I dont see why people wouldn't bother with a birthday. I try to make her birthday seem like a birthday with a birthday cake, birthday banners and balloons etc... she doesn't mind her birthday close to Xmas. Don't give 2 hoots about people's opinions, aslong as you are happy its got nothing to do with them. How rude of them to comment!

Sparklestars86 · 01/07/2021 21:31

@2020mission I had my 16 week appt with midwife this morning and she asked me what the results of my screening were. Just to manage your expectations that yours might not know either. (I'm in a handheld rather than e-notes area though so not sure if that makes a difference). Xx

2020mission · 01/07/2021 22:08

Oh really @Sparklestars86? I don't have any notes not electronic or handheld. No one gave me anything 😕 I'm really counting on finding out my result at that appointment. I think I'll be calling someone to try and find out if they don't! I wonder if our GP has access to it on our medical records to let us know?

@southernbelles aww what horrible comments. I struggled for 16 months to conceive this baby so had no luxury of planning for a specific birth month. I wish people would think before they speak as most of us can't simply pick and choose! I worked out my due date and did initially feel a bit gutted about the timing but actually when you think about it, how boring would it be if everyone had a birthday in the same few months of the year that are thought of as the most ideal? I think we can definitely make a December birthday great. The festive season can be a lovely time of the year!

tuxedocat · 02/07/2021 07:37

@2020mission can you call your antenatal clinic where the scan was taken? I was told if I didn’t have anything after 2 weeks to call but I had mine posted on the Saturday and my scan was the previous Tuesday.

I’ve had many comments about the December thing. My son is late nov. I just simply said perhaps if they want to we’ll have a big ‘half birthday’ party in the summer. Birthdays don’t define you - I don’t ever think of myself as better cos my birthdays in summer 😂
