@Allicit after speaking with my friend and her experience I think I'm going straight for baba and boo pocket nappies. The newborns last until 6 months and the one size from approx 8 weeks. So I will get 10 new borns to see how we get on with them, I imagine we will only be part time in the beginning whilst getting to grips but certainly after speaking to her I feel confident enough to try straight away as she says they appear much more comfortable and gentle as the disposable always gave nappy rash to her LO.

Once I feel confident for full time I will increase the size and the number and maybe branch out to other brands, little lamb come highly recommend also.

Morning Everyone! Hope you’re doing ok and those with scans coming up or had recently are feeling positive ❤️

I can’t stop buying things!! I am 22 weeks today and I get deliveries most days now with bits I’ve bought 🙈

What is everyone doing with baby sleeping bags/cellular blankets etc? I’ve just bought x2 Snuz sleeping bags as there was a bank holiday offer and I had a 10% off code and they seem to look good.... does anyone have any recommendations?

What about babies first bed? Moses basket, next to be crib?

SillyBry · 30/04/2021 11:02

@Bubbles1st I used disposables with my first and am considering cloth this time around. I asked two friends and am now more confused than when I started! There seem to be so many options - and I worry that it's going to be expensive buying various brands to find what works for us.
Reuseable wipes is such an easy change - even if you only do it at home and have a pack of wipes for your nappy bag.
From everything I've read, nighttime cloth is MUCH harder to get right... but as my friend said, don't beat yourself up for using disposables. Even if you use disposables at night and sometimes in the day, it's still less than you would have had.

I never had any problem with disposables in terms of nappy rash/leaks etc, so I'm a bit scared to step away from something I know works just fine... but I'm also conscious of how many nappies you go through in that first year!!!

Allicit · 30/04/2021 11:05

@Bubbles1st Oo that does sound good! Maybe I should buy one or two to test out at the beginning. Nappy lady recommended little lambs for us and they’re on sale so perhaps could try a couple in rotation and see how we go!

Jay3004 · 30/04/2021 11:11

@CherLW I’m exactly the same, I’m sure my neighbours must wonder why I get so many deliveries 😂 I’ve bought some sleeping bags and cellular blankets. We live in Scotland though so by the end of September / beginning of October it will probably be getting quite cold. I’m going to order a next to me crib - my friends that have had them all swore by them.

Kirky658 · 30/04/2021 11:23

I've been wondering about these sleeping bags too! I toyed with the next 2 me cribs, but our bedroom isn't really the right size or shape to allow so we are going to go for a moses basket at the bottom of the bed.

We've booked to go pram shopping next weekend, very excited! Looked at baby clothes the day of the scan and we just felt so happy and excited, feels like we can enjoy it now.

Having a gender reveal bbq on monday, in the rain, should be fun 🤣

CherLW · 30/04/2021 11:34

@Jay3004 I feel the same about my neighbours 😂. I’m due early September but who knows when he will make his arrival!

I’ve bought a Snuz next to me crib but there were so many styles to choose from but I’m happy with my choice.

@Kirky658 congratulations 💗 I think the sleeping bags are a good idea... I’ve been told Grobag are good ones also.
Very exciting for you gender reveal!! Such a lovely idea even with the rain! 😂

SillyBry · 30/04/2021 11:38

Gro bag sleeping bags are definitely worth the extra money in the long run - supermarket ones are SO much smaller/less room for their legs to kick around as they get bigger.
I remember being a bit caught out with my first because 0-6 month sleeping bags actually only fitted from 10lbs or something! But Grobag do some called Snuggle (or something like that) and they are designed for newborns with the option to swaddle them, which worked really well.

Kirky658 · 30/04/2021 13:07

@cherlw thanks lovely! It will be the first time we've seen DH's parents since last summer so really looking forward to it. I'm currently hedging my bets, hung the washing out this morning and it's gone a bit grey and dark, wondering whether to take a gamble or not...

CherLW · 30/04/2021 13:27

@Kirky658 oh that will be so lovely!! I’m in the south and the rain has stopped and dare I say the sun is coming out a bit!! I say just risk it, what’s the worst that can happen 😊

I bought my pram! I’ve gone mainly off reviews and recommendations so I’m hoping that’s pays off! Now to get the car seat... I can’t remember who said it but I’m going for the I-level joie one as has good safety reviews 😍

Kirky658 · 30/04/2021 13:54

@cherlw deffo recommendations are the best. The gamble didnt pay off, they got slightly rained on 😅 into the dryer they go!

SP2Bx · 30/04/2021 15:21

We've bought a next to me crib but I don't intend to use it in it's full capacity (unless I end up having a c-section when I can imagine that comes in VERY handy!) I'll have it "next to my bed but not attached" to begin with but with the sides up as they're see through anyway (it rocks, so hoping I can just lean out of bed and give it a nudge and save some sleep haha) - and then after a few weeks it'll go at the end of the bed against the wall until baby goes into their own room.

I just wanted a smaller cot type thing for the bedroom, because although I plan to have a Moses basket downstairs, most babies I know hated them or outgrew them too fast!!!

SillyBry · 30/04/2021 15:32

@SP2Bx I think that's super sensible! We got loaned a moses basket for downstairs and had a crib upstairs. Ours couldn't be unzipped/attached to the bed, but something next to you is so handy. Plus, my first was in the crib until 4/5 months. She outgrew the moses basket in about 2 months!

I also had a Tiny Love "3 in 1 rocker napper" for my daughter. It was a godsend for fussy days... basically you could put them in it slightly sitting up, put some music and lights on to distract them and hide behind them rocking them... then when they fell asleep, you could lay it down to fully flat for sleeping. It was amazing!

Eppy123 · 30/04/2021 16:10

Hey, been following these threads but didn’t feel confident enough to post until today as we lost our first baby last year at 13 weeks.
However now expecting our rainbow baby on 14th September, had our 20 week scan today and all is well! Team yellow for us and keeping it a surprise ☺️
Hope everyone is doing well! X

CherLW · 30/04/2021 16:49

Sorry to hear about your baby loss @Eppy123 ❤️ I lost a baby last year at 11+4 and it just takes that little bit longer to feel the reassurance this time round.

Congratulations and I’m glad your 20 scan went well!! Welcome to the group ❤️

Hopefulmummie · 30/04/2021 17:30

Shops are open today for the 1st time in NI so went pram shopping and ordered our pram :) can't believe we picked one so quick

Also went to matalan and went a bit mad on clothes lol

SP2Bx · 30/04/2021 17:39

@Hopefulmummie I can't wait for a Matalan trip! Their stuff looks the cutestttt.

Welcome @Eppy123 :)

Squibble84 · 30/04/2021 18:01

Welcome @Eppy123! Sorry to hear about your loss, it definitely makes subsequent pregnancies a more anxious time but that’s great news that you had a good 20 week scan, hopefully you can relax a bit now! We’re also team yellow! 💛 xx

SillyBry · 30/04/2021 20:11

@Hopefulmummie my husband's cousins were sending me pictures of the queues in Derry for Primark... looked like a busy day in town!!!

Hopefulmummie · 30/04/2021 20:41

@SillyBry yeah all the primarks were mental I will avoid of a while lol

2021mumma · 01/05/2021 07:05

@CherLW I bought the next to me cot for last baby which we plan to use again it was really good having them just next to you and easy to grab them without getting to bed and putting them back in without much effort was really good

CherLW · 01/05/2021 07:14

@2021mumma that’s what I’m hoping 😍 also having him next to me will be ideal so I can just keep an eye and settle him back to sleep. I’ll just feel better if I can see him 💙

Squibble84 · 01/05/2021 09:00

I’m so hoping we can actually use our next to me cot and Moses basket this time around! DD1 had silent reflux so she slept on our chests for the first 9 months. I am praying to all the gods that this one doesn’t have reflux! 🙏🙏🙏

Bubbles1st · 01/05/2021 10:40

Has anyone not used a carry cot before and just used a seat pushchair that lies flat as the suitable from birth option that only world faces?

Trying to decide if we need a carry cot or not....limited car space is biggest issue and carry cot will have to go on back seat.

I hope to do a lot of baby carrying in the first few months if that's make way difference to your previous usage please share! Thanks

OP posts:
KHR1 · 01/05/2021 12:28

@Bubbles1st I haven't tried not using the carry cot before but we have just bought a double stroller where the seats can fully recline so that we don't need separate prams for my DD and the baby - we wouldn't fit a stroller in the car with our proper pram. It doesn't look as supportive and cosy as a pram with a carry cot but if you plan to do lots of carrying then the stroller would probably be perfect for when you start using it more. I was going to try and find a nice cosy pram suit for the baby if we do need to use the double pram early on.
