Currently pregnant with baby boy, husband is obsessed with the name Bruce. I am undecided, rest of the family hate it. Interested in opinions. I’m not precious.

Honestly I hate it. It's too old man like.

MrsFin · 16/04/2021 17:14

G'day!

Merename · 16/04/2021 17:17

Yes I can’t say it without an Aussie accent either! There was a thread on it a few weeks ago and I wasnt keen, but actually the day after I met a wee 2yr old Bruce at a kids yoga class and thought it was cute on him.

Marty13 · 16/04/2021 17:18

Frankly my first thought was that your DH is a Batman fan.

Personally I don't really like it, but I think the only thing that matters is whether YOU like it. Don't say yes to a name you don't like to make your DH happy. If one of you is unhappy about a name you have to go back to the drawing board (compromises can always be made for a middle name...)

Edelweiss2020 · 16/04/2021 17:18

Not a name I would go for myself but there are far worse!
We're not telling anyone our name ideas until he's born and we've chosen one - other people's opinions shouldn't matter but they like to share them - but they won't say a thing once the baby is here!

Salvationz · 16/04/2021 17:19

I don’t like it, baby Bruce... just doesn’t sit well x

TheVanguardSix · 16/04/2021 17:19

There are two names, Bruce and Bruno, that do absolutely nothing for me. Sorry, OP. Bruce is just not a nice name.

Kanaloa · 16/04/2021 17:20

I’m not keen, reminds me of Bruce Jenner. Also Bruce Banner I suppose.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 16/04/2021 17:21

I love the name Bruce! A friend has a wee boy called Bruce and he is all kinds of brilliant I only called him Bruce Almighty once or twice

maslinpan · 16/04/2021 17:21

Forsyth .... shudder!

CrackersDontMatter · 16/04/2021 17:21

I am wondering if you are my sister in law! I like it but we are a big family of Springsteen fans. I had it on lists but it didn't fit well with my surname at the time.

drpet49 · 16/04/2021 17:23

It is a joke name. Can never be taken seriously.

thesugarbumfairy · 16/04/2021 17:30

My dad was a Bruce. I love my dad more than the whole world...but I wouldn't (and didn't) name my babies after him.
I do think you could grow to like it, but it really doesn't feel like a babies name
[thrilling fact - he was called Bruce because that was the maiden name of his grandma who was Scottish]

idontlikealdi · 16/04/2021 17:31

G'day mate. That's it. I really couldn't. Could be cute for a dog.

BrizzleMaverick · 16/04/2021 17:35

My FIL is called Bruce and whenever I mention him in conversation the majority of people have giggled at the name.
I know it is tradition to have family names with your children but both of my boys don't have Bruce anywhere in their names.

RamblingRover · 16/04/2021 17:35

Opinions much appreciated. I honestly don’t mind it at all but just feel that most other would hate it, which some will say shouldn’t matter but I feel like when anyone asks his name I’ll be like ‘errrr...Bruce?’ and waiting for their face to change 😬

Gingerkittykat · 16/04/2021 17:35

It's a good strong Scottish name but don't think it works for any other nationality.

OppsUpsSide · 16/04/2021 17:36

I love it.

contraversial2021 · 16/04/2021 17:48

Love it

BadMudda · 16/04/2021 17:49

I just think of Brice Forsyth

"Brucie Bonus"

Just no

BadMudda · 16/04/2021 17:49

TheThingsWeAdmitOnMN · 16/04/2021 17:52

Just NO.

(You did ask)

Aspiringmatriarch · 16/04/2021 17:55

Nope.

RandomUsernameHere · 16/04/2021 17:57

I really like it, but not sure I'd be brave enough to go for it!
