Red book?

Random question, when would I expect to get a red book? Are they still a thing? I'm a first time mum and have been really looking forward to getting one. Had my second midwife appointment today, got my maternity notes in a yellow folder and just wondered if this has replaced the red book x

Health visitor gave me mine. But this was years ago!

popcorndiva · 14/04/2021 12:30

Not until baby is born as its their notes. After birth the midwife takes your notes away

ladywithnomanors · 14/04/2021 12:31

You get your red book for baby when they’re born.

Vodkabulary · 14/04/2021 12:32

We got ours at the hospital after baby was born as part of the discharge.

Horehound · 14/04/2021 12:32

Yes as above you get it when they are born.

Frogartist · 14/04/2021 12:33

The red book is for the baby, not you. You get it from hospital/ midwife /HV after the birth. In a few years they're going to be on-line only.

lockdownbabyx · 14/04/2021 12:34

Oh I see, thank you all! Hopefully I get one before they change it to online ☺️ x

I saw something in the news recently saying they would be going online, can't remember what date they are changing it from though.

OolieMacdoolie · 14/04/2021 12:57

My midwife gave me mine when my baby was born

Sansa87 · 14/04/2021 13:01

I got my red book through the post at 34 weeks with my appointment for the health visitor to come round to see me.

bubblebath62636 · 14/04/2021 13:16

I got mine at my 20 week scan.

EvilOnion · 14/04/2021 13:17

We had ours on the first visit after baby is born.

I'd rather they were online tbh, just another thing to lose 🤣

katmarie · 14/04/2021 13:34

I got mine in the hospital after baby was born both times.

mrsed1987 · 14/04/2021 13:38

We got my sons when he was discharged from hospital

kensue19 · 14/04/2021 13:51

They're a pain in the arse, it'll be much better when it's all online.

Chanel05 · 14/04/2021 16:43

I was given my daughter's the day after she was born.

traveller11 · 14/04/2021 16:46

I think online might be coming sooner rather than later - maybe even by the end of the year.

This is the website explaining it a bit more. I'm tempted to register to see if new baby can have it online once they're here.

I'm due on 31st October so hopefully I get one! This is my 4th pregnancy after 3 losses so it's more of another keepsake if anything xx

Except when "the system" is down, you can't make notes in the margin, they enter the wrong info and now it can't be changed etc etc
chelle862 · 14/04/2021 18:51

I got mine when she was born. The only thing recorded in it is her hearing test, no one else will touch it because of covid 🙄

Waitingforbabypage · 14/04/2021 19:37

I got mine last week at 31 weeks.

justsotiredallthetime · 14/04/2021 19:43

Red book given in hospital once baby born. I like the red book, call me old fashioned! I still keep it in his bag and he's 2!

PurpleFlower1983 · 14/04/2021 19:45

I have heard they are phasing them out soon, no pregnancy notes this time either.

Megan2018 · 14/04/2021 19:50

I got mine in hospital after birth
My pregnancy notes were part paper and part online. Carrying the notes is a PITA and tbe red book has bugger all in it due to Covid (got in pre pandemic but baby saw no-one after 13 weeks apart from jabs

MrsWeasely · 14/04/2021 20:02

I got given mine at my 20 week scan.
