I’m only 14 weeks but it’s starting already! Have been told today by an acquaintance I’ve met a handful of times that not only is my bump massive, but so are my boobs Hmm

She’s not wrong to be fair, nothing fits me Grin but I can’t imagine commenting on someone else’s boobs pregnant or not 🙈

I'm 25 weeks with twins and get "I'm surprised you're not bigger" despite feeling like the size of a house

rainbowlou · 11/04/2021 20:27

Constant comments about my size!
Every time we had a staff meeting my boss made the same hilarious joke of everybody needing to move up as I’d need more than 1 chair!
She also used to tell me I was as wide as I am tall.
Someone else in the same place would question if it was planned, did it have the same father as my first, was I going to breastfeed etc.
The first thing she asked when she saw me after I gave birth was whether I’d needed any stitches and how much of the weight had I lost so far!
Needless to say I didn’t return after my maternity leave ended.

Shadow1986 · 11/04/2021 20:29

When I said I was having twins someone said ‘I’d rather DIE than have twins!’
I didn’t exactly plan on twins and was already anxious, it really upset me.

AdaFuckingShelby · 11/04/2021 20:31

My then husband said at the scan 'it's got a massive head!' . Tactful and sensitive, not.

FluffMagnet · 11/04/2021 20:33

I had a colleague repeatedly follow me round telling me about her awful labour. Thankfully I had an ELCS booked in, or that would have really messed me up. I had such bad pre-natal depression and hated being pregnant, that I really struggled with lots of perfectly nice colleague comments. I basically hid my pregnancy best as I could and for as long as I could. My lovely line manager was an angel in helping me and quietly having "words" in the background to deflect comments.

GoryGilmore · 11/04/2021 20:34

Having just told MIL that we were expecting DC2, her response was “Oh! Well....as long as you don’t call it Jeremy”.

She’s a very strange woman.

Justmuddlingalong · 11/04/2021 20:36

"But you're not married, what will the neighbours say?"
Courtesy of my mother, when I was in a long term relationship, in my own home and in my 20s.
There are lots of others but I wouldn't repeat them to anyone pregnant as they're so upsetting and heartless.
Neither I nor my 3dc are in contact with her.

I went to the checkout with a pregnancy test. I knew I was pregnant I wanted a digital for weeks and the lady said 'what are you hoping for... yes or no?'

Slightly different to other comments but still as shocking!!! Xx

Neptunesgiraffe · 11/04/2021 20:40

I was asked "Was it a surprise, you know, at your age...?"
I was thirty four.Confused

Shock What did you say?? People are mental!!
PlanBea · 11/04/2021 21:39

I was at the dentist's a couple of days ago, for an emergency appointment. I'd told them on the phone I'm 36 weeks pregnant, I waddled in to the surgery with my giant bump on display and said I had a maternity exemption, then the dental assistant (who had booked the appointment for me over the phone 2 hours earlier) asked me "how long ago did you have the baby?" 🤦‍♀️

I suppose it was better than the opposite, if I'd already given birth and was asked when I'm due I'd have been miffed!

Nesski · 11/04/2021 21:40

Covid means that I have managed to avoid the brunt of unhelpful comments, but I was working in a different country at the time of conception and went to a pharmacy to get a pregnancy test which is located behind the counter. When I asked for one, the lady leant across the counter on her tippy toes to get a good look at my stomach with a wide grin on her face before shimmying back and getting me what I asked for. I thought it very strange as I wasn't showing then and I'm not sure what she expected to see!!

Gemmaemilyx · 11/04/2021 21:59

@Merename I said I already know I am I just want dates from clear blue and she looked shocked! I'm 27 with an 8yo son ! Xx

Amelia2021 · 11/04/2021 22:18

I had a guy who works at our local shop say to me "my god your looking massive!" - I am 35 weeks with my second and didn't take offence to it as it was light hearted, but I responded with "my god dave your hairline has really receded recently!" - if he can comment on my appearance I can comment on his 🤣

Twobecomingthreeplusthedog · 11/04/2021 22:32

All of the comments but people fucking touching me. Stop touching my stomach, it’s just plain weird. Next person to do it I am going to reach out and touch their throat.

Twobecomingthreeplusthedog · 11/04/2021 22:36

@AdaFuckingShelby

My then husband said at the scan 'it's got a massive head!' . Tactful and sensitive, not.
I took my mum to my 4d scan and she said ‘oh he’s not going to be a pretty baby is he!’ And the sonographers intook a huge breath. Then 2 hours later said ‘if you keep eating you’ll be the size of a house when you give birth and you were already too fat before this happened.’
Queenie6655 · 11/04/2021 22:37

Did he just get you pregnant to trap you

Fcking idiotic colleague 🤬🤬🤬

spaceghetto · 11/04/2021 22:37

My mil told me I was putting on a lot of weight all over. She also would comment often on how fantastic Kate Middleton looked when pregnant!

MissConductUS · 11/04/2021 22:38

There is something about a pregnant woman that unmasks the stupidity in people.

doodlejump1980 · 11/04/2021 22:46

When I was Pregnant with my twins, people said “are you sure there’s not THREE in there?!”

Good on you!!
PurBal · 12/04/2021 07:15

I get the "are you sure it's not twins?" But thats more down to the fact there are multiple sets of twins in the family so I've got a higher likelihood of having them. We asked the sonographer to double check at my scans, definitely only one. I'd have been ecstatic if I was expecting twins though.

mummabubs · 12/04/2021 07:18

I also hate the comments pregnancy seems to suddenly permit! Although I've no doubt it's harmlessly intended my MiL has taken to calling me "the fat lady" (I'm a size 10 when I'm not pregnant 🤨) and every time she sees us on facetime she tells me to stand up so she can see my bump and follows this with "I think it's safe to say that's not wind". No shizzle. Again, she's not ill-meaning but it grates on me. Almost as much as when I had to exclusively express milk for a year due to feeding difficulties with my firstborn which was a really upsetting process and she spent the year calling me Daisy (ie a cow) and commented on my breast pump making it sound like I was farting all the time. Really upset me.

Boho7 · 12/04/2021 07:19

" when are you due?"

'August"

"Ah well at least you can finish your GCSE's"

"I'm 24"

Urgh, I hate that pregnant women are called out for their size and shape and become almost public property. I'm sure they wouldn't appreciate someone stopping them to say how huge their tummy, breasts or ankles looked in general so why is it fair game to basically judge a pregnant woman as a crap acknowledgement of her physical changes?

I've been really fortunate that comments have been minimal, mostly probably because I'm high BMI so got "big" later, and also because people know I wouldn't look impressed if they weren't tactful with their words.

I have groaned about getting rotund and walrus-like from weight gain and had people basically give me permission to eat whatever I like due to being pregnant, not as harsh but still makes you feel a bit poo.
