Hi all

I'm 5+1 and having a hard time putting the worries to the back of my mind... how did you all cope with the wait between finding out you're pregnant to your 12 week scan? I just can't switch off at all 🤦‍♀️ Any tips greatly received!!

No advice. Would love to know this. Just found out this morning. Also about 5 weeks. Had a MMC last year so no idea how to not worry for the next few weeks!

Rosieposy89 · 06/04/2021 09:14

Taking it one day at a time! The days soon turn into weeks. If you're getting pregnancy symptoms and no bleeding, excessive pain etc; just assume all is well.

anniebu · 06/04/2021 09:35

My advice is do what you need to do health-wise, but keep as busy as possible and focus your attention on other things and goals. Good luck!

Thistimelastyear · 06/04/2021 09:55

We had a private early scan which really helped break up the time. Otherwise try and stay busy because it's a long wait. I'm still waiting for my 12 week scan as it has been scheduled for 13 +5.

Chelyanne · 06/04/2021 10:02

No ways of coping unfortunately. We've had 2 mc's at 8 & 9wk and a few chemicals since our last live births. I was thankfully for strong symptoms this time, the wait was excruciating but we got there. Dates were moved forward 4 days and baby was very active. I couldn't stand to wait 7 weeks for the anomaly scan and booked a private scan for half way between. Now 21wk and umming and ahing about getting another private scan, I do feel baby move but not as much as our others as I have my 1st anterior placenta.

Our last pregnancy I had a scan at 8+3 and saw baby with a hb but lost it a week later so I decided no more private early scans. The dating scan was worth the wait.

PurpleCurtain · 06/04/2021 10:16

Book an early scan for 8 weeks. And make the most of this time you don't have sickness/ aren't showing and are able to go about your business and exercise etc almost as normal!

PinkPlantCase · 06/04/2021 10:27

We had an early scan at 8/9 weeks and that really gave us something to look forward to. The changes of MC reduce hugely once there is a heart beat.

Just don’t book one too early as there’s always lots of threads on here of who booked a scan when it’s too early to see anything and it causes so much upset.

mrsawhite · 07/04/2021 07:40

Morning all. We did book a private scan last time for 8 weeks. All was well measuring 8+4 but at 12 week scan apparently it had stopped growing around 8 weeks. Found that so strange after we had just seen it!

Still such early days. Symptoms are strong at the moment. Well sore boobs and tired. Fingers crossed!

Mother2princess · 07/04/2021 08:11

I had a early private scan at 6+5 8 or 9 weeks and private 11 weeks its advantages is its reassuring while you wait for the nhs

I did this after my loss last year I'm now pregnant with above baby due in 20 days time

I found it very reassuring but the cons are its expensive to do it i must have spent over £250 on 3 scans

Mother2princess · 07/04/2021 08:14

Just to add symptoms dont mean anything with my girls i had all symptoms

Miscarriage I didn't know right away however that didn't mean it was a reason Miscarriage

Current pregnancy

Had absolutely no symptoms during the whole pregnancy carrying a boy this time.

Babycakes39 · 07/04/2021 08:23

I'm feeling exactly the same op! I'm 5 weeks, have two DC and been lucky to never experience a MC but I just feel so worried this time. I'm 39 so obviously that increases the risk. Got an early scan booked for 8 weeks. Just got to keep busy xx

FeistySheep · 07/04/2021 09:22

I always feel like that at 5 weeks. Then by a week later I'm so sick that I can't think about anything else but cuddling the toilet bowl. Try to focus on enjoying your last days of tasty food for two months!
Or, hopefully, you'll be one of those lucky souls who doesn't get MS Grin

I know it's tough, but it will go past quicker than you think. Plan some fun activities - walks/meeting friends, takeaway and movie, knitting a granny blanket! Whatever does it for you :)

Vogue1992 · 07/04/2021 09:26

Take one day at a time and try not to panic, I remember doing pregnancy tests almost daily as it didn’t feel real and struggling because I had no symptoms. I had an early scan at 8 weeks, which definitely helped. If I’m honest I thought the 12 week scan would put my mind at rest but I don’t think the anxiety ever leaves you. Almost 28 weeks now and still struggling to believe it ha ha xx

Week 11 of an IVF pregnancy here, my first pregnancy as well.

Had a bit of spotting early on and fluctuating symptoms which was so worrying but was assured by clinic was really common. I had a viability scan at 7 weeks (which happens with IVF before they discharge you) and saw the heartbeat which put my fears to bed for a little while.

Thought about paying for another private scan while waiting for the 12 week one but it's pretty expensive, I'm not sure it would allay my fears for more than a few days, and I've heard stories of them not actually being that accurate and making women feel worse than they did before.

Still a bit caught up in the idea that I've had a MMC or something but trying to keep sane by reminding myself that if I'm not bleeding or in pain then everything is probably okay. Taking it one day at a time.

Taken a bit of time off work this week as I've been really tired and I'm distracting myself with reading, watching movies, and online shopping.

mrsawhite · 07/04/2021 20:01

How we all doing. Feeling so tired last couple of days. And my god my boobs are sore. Anyone else still have quite bad cramps? Think I'm almost 6 weeks. But it's quite disconcerting!

Exactly the same as you... cramps seemed to reappear this afternoon after disappearing for a couple of days but I've had them ever since implantation I think. Headache and a bit of nausea set in this afternoon too. I've really suffered with back/hip/leg pain too over the last few weeks but touch wood that's starting to subside! Tiredness doesn't seem to have set in yet nor does the constant need to pee... worrying I should be having these symptoms!!

I'm no expert or anything. But from reading endless threads. I think it's different for everyone! So try not to worry. Haha. Says me! I've only really started to feel really tired last couple of days. And sorry for far tmi. Keep thinking it feels like I've started to bleed. But just seems to be rather a lot of dish charge 🙈

tuesday2am · 07/04/2021 20:36

I got my BFP two days ago, tested early - I’m only 4+2. I’ve had a chemical and an early miscarriage in the last year and I’m terrified it’s gonna happen again. I’ve been spotting a tiny bit since the day I tested but it’s only brown/pink and hardly anything at all. Got slight cramps and very tired but no other symptoms either. I just wish 12 weeks could magically appear... like tomorrow lol.

May2021Mummy · 07/04/2021 20:36

I didn't wait I booked early scans one at 7 weeks and one at 10 weeks at window to the womb

It put my mind at rest for a bit although you do have to remember it's just a snippet in time but I had previously suffered loss so I felt it helped

I'm 32 weeks now and still worry but it does get a bit easier the further a long you get especially when you start feeling them move about

Congratulations

PurpleFlower1983 · 07/04/2021 20:37

Reassurance scan at 8 weeks.

mrsawhite · 08/04/2021 07:20

Yes I've heard once you feel movement it's a bit more reassuring! X

ame88 · 08/04/2021 07:52

Keep busy!! I also booked a private scan for 8 weeks which for me personally really helped! (I'm 20 weeks now!)

mrsawhite · 08/04/2021 08:20

Yes going to work as much as possible. Luckily wfh for NHS and can pick and choose shifts. Undecided about 8 week scan. Broke our hearts when we then went for 12 week scan 🙁

Sunflowerx · 08/04/2021 09:58

I found out quite early at 3w 4d and I remember thinking to myself how am I going to get through this? I had lots of days of stress and anxiety which were massively helped by booking a private scan at 8 weeks so I could see that the baby was in the right place and had a heartbeat. I was still nervous after that, but I'm 13+5 now and after a good 12 week scan I finally feel excited about my pregnancy. Hope it gets easier for you x

Xaxnxdxrxexaxandrews87 · 09/04/2021 07:29

I found that making sure I was busy each day helped, otherwise I was just obsessed with the time/day. It passed much quicker that way. Sometimes we have a tendency to put things on hold and everything is a waiting game for scans, gender etc
For me the key was changing my mindset and looking at life as it still needs to be lived things to do etc and time has flown by as I’ve been more focused on daily activities x
