Pregnant with a toddler support thread

Anyone interested in a support thread?

I'm due in August with DC3 but have a huge gap between DS1 & 2 so I've never been through this bit with a toddler around before :)

DS2 will be 3 when the new baby arrives.

Would be fun to share tips and things.

Also is anyone else still breastfeeding their toddler through pregnancy?

I can't help with the breastfeeding as I bottle fed my first.

But I'm 28 weeks pregnant and due in June, with a toddler that is 3 in June!

BertieBotts · 25/03/2021 12:58

Ah congratulations! How are you finding it so far?

Muststopeating · 25/03/2021 13:31

Yes! Send help! I have a 2 year old and a 3 year old and am 23 weeks pregnant! I'm so tired!

(Sorry also can't help with the breastfeeding this time but was still feeding my first when i got pregnant with my second but it seemed to slow down very quickly after that).

CaptainSpirit · 25/03/2021 13:36

Good idea for a thread! I'm 13 weeks tomorrow and have two young DDs, a 3 year old (4 in June) and a 14 month old. Smile I'm still breastfeeding the younger one and I'm exhausted!!

Chelyanne · 25/03/2021 13:42

All my kids are now school age and 19+2wk. In my last pregnancy, our 1st turned 9, our 2nd turned 4 and our 3rd tuned 3 a couple of months after our twins were born.
Routines are your best friend, babies just slot in when your older ones have established routines. I had an elcs too so was told not to lift the younger 2 often but after a few weeks I felt fine fine doing it. It can be exhausting in the early years but you get through it. That pregnancy was tough physically as they were huge, I had spd/pgp and dh broke his leg emwen I was 26wk so was pretty useless until he had his cast off after birth. It didn't put me off having another though so not all that bad lol.

Good luck to you all.

Emma301091 · 25/03/2021 13:49

I have a recently turned 2 year old and 4 month old twins .. I'm dying .. jokes.
It's fine, but my toddler has a lot of screen time at the moment.. I still find it such an effort to get out the house sometimes so we don't really go far I tend to wait until my partner gets home and I go out on my own.
It's fine though really my toddler is really content playing on his own although I feel bad, but if I try and play he moves to something else - little shite lol
You just had to find your own routine or just way that's good for you. Doesn't even have to be a routine!
Literally if I can manage ANYONE can.
I'm only really struggling with lockdown now and not seeing any family (we live over 3 hours from them so they havn't even met the twins yet apart from my brother in law who came down as childcare when I was in labour and until I came home to support my partner so he could come to the hospital x

TheRhythmlessMan · 25/03/2021 13:54

This is a great idea for a thread.

I'm so excited to be having another baby (due in sept, DD will be 3 in June) but still very nervous too. For DD I was so obsessed in making sure she had enough sleep etc... she's such a light sleeper too and I got quite frustrated at times. I'm hoping I'll be calmer this time around and that I won't let stress get a hold of me.

I cannot imagine how it's all going to pan out but I'm hoping @Chelyanne is right in saying that babies just slot into an existing routine (praying for a miracle?) and that DD won't be too disrupted by it all.

Do you all have DC in childcare at the moment?

CaptainSpirit · 25/03/2021 13:59

@TheRhythmlessMan When my second baby was born my eldest DD was 2 and a half with her own established routine - from my experience our second baby did happily slot right in and older DD wasn't disrupted at all. Smile
Hoping this next one does the same! 🤞🏻

TheRhythmlessMan · 25/03/2021 14:14

Wow @CaptainSpirit I do hope your trend continues! :)
Thank you for sharing. It's so relieving to hear that it's at least possible :) fingers crossed!

mrssunshinexxx · 25/03/2021 14:14

Great thread.
Still feeding my lo she is 9 months old and I am pregnant with no2

MrsMDD · 25/03/2021 14:31

Love this thread. My DD will be 2 in April. My eldest is 11 in July and we're due no3 in July as well the day after eldest birthday. I am shattered like I can't keep up with the toddler at all. So glad I'm at home this time and not working as I don't know how I would cope with the tiredness. Can't imagine a newborn being in the mix of all of this but roll on July!

Raggeo · 25/03/2021 14:39

Hi. I'm only 9 weeks pregnant and have a very active 15mo. Still battling through the first trimester sickness and exhaustion. Feel I'm only being half a parent to my DS at the moment. Lots of outside time when the weather allows it and lots of sitting on sofa with books. Luckily DH is working at home so he tends to do breakfast for DS and then he also cooks dinner for us all, cause I can't deal with the cooking smells. Feel like I'm just trying to get through the days just now.

fattymumbum · 25/03/2021 14:39

I have a 22 month old and I'm 34 weeks pregnant. I am physically really tired but emotionally struggling really. I have been crying all morning.
I'm not normally this bad but more tired than normal and toddler got up at 5.30am and she's having awful tantrums!!!
I'm still breastfeeding too, and can't be bothered to try and stop before the new baby comes in May.

Hi to everyone!

AngeloMysterioso · 25/03/2021 14:46

Can I hop on the bus? Found out out the other day I'm pregnant with my 2nd, due a few weeks after DS's 2nd birthday...

bonitasi · 25/03/2021 14:47

Great idea for a thread! I have a just turned 2 year old. I am pregnant - early days due October. Have my scan in a couple of weeks . Nausea very bad this time round and vomiting on and off too. I feel pretty unwell most of the time and very tired too. My toddler keeps randomly refusing his nap too which is dire as I'm really relying on that to have a sleep myself lol.

bonitasi · 25/03/2021 14:48

I forgot to say also feel like I'm I'm not fully able to parent toddler . He doesn't sit still ever but I'm having to bribe him with a small bag of white chocolate buttons and tv allowing him to lie in bed with me to do that whilst I am just rotten next to him.

BurningBenches · 25/03/2021 14:58

Can I join?

I'm expecting DC5 in June, and DC4 will be 22m. He won't start preschool til next September so I'm so hoping groups reopen safely soon.

I also have a 20yo, 11yo and nearly 10yo. I've done a 17m gap before but I was also 10yrs younger 😂 but as @Chelyanne says they do have to just fit in with routines. And routines really help!

I'm nearly 29wks and starting to feel quite weary tbh!

BurningBenches · 25/03/2021 15:00

Oh and I stopped breastfeeding at a year and then was pregnant at 14m...I think.

I'm hoping my nipples are still toughened up from that 😂

fattymumbum · 25/03/2021 15:07

@Burningbenches oh god the pain at the beginning is awful!

I've been telling my toddler off for hurting me, but now think it's my nipples being sensitive again. They've gone through periods of being so painful to fine since I found out I was pregnant!

beanys · 25/03/2021 15:08

Hi everyone, wanted to jump in too!
Currently 32 weeks pregnant with a 27month old. Poor bump hasn't stood a chance with all the kicks and jumps from my DS! Am so worried about how my DS will adapt to having new baby here. Really hope he accepts baby but fully anticipating a rough ride for the first few weeks. Next week we are starting Potty Training for my DS in an attempt to have at least 1 out of nappies, will see how we get on and if DS regresses when baby arrives!?

peach1234 · 25/03/2021 15:14

Hello! Please can I join, just found out I'm pregnant and due a month before DD's 3rd birthday. I was so sick with my first I'm dreading this time and having to deal with her and praying for toddler groups to reopen soon so I'm not being sat on or constantly pulled at all day when feeling rough!
Hope all you ladies further along are coping! Lockdown doesn't make it easy does it xx

BertieBotts · 25/03/2021 15:14

Ooh there are loads of us! I was thinking it will be good as we can transition into a newborn + toddler thread later.

@BurningBenches my nipples are absolutely not toughened up 😫 You must be an absolute pro to be on DC5. We'll be asking you for tips!

@bonitasi hang in there - the early weeks were awful for me this time but then I started to feel better.

Congratulations @AngeloMysterioso

@fattymumbum that sounds really hard. I'm dreading the end stages TBH. Is your LO still feeding a lot? I have had to cut DS2 down to only bedtime as it's so painful to feed him, but he had been winding down anyway.

@Raggeo I totally could not cope with any smells this time. I swear it wasn't as strong the other 2 times.

@TheRhythmlessMan DS2 is at nursery, but he has been in "settling in" Hmm since OCTOBER! Because there have been various closures, illness, staff shortage, swapping of groups etc. They are happy for him to go all day finally but he's been off for 3 days with a cold so I'm still picking him up after lunch. Maybe next week he'll finally go full time - whatever that is as they keep closing at 2/3pm. It's so brilliant for him though and a godsend for me.

@CaptainSpirit @Muststopeating seems like the tiredness is getting everyone!

OP posts:
TOWGA · 25/03/2021 15:17

I'm starting to struggle with tiredness already!

brushlaptop · 25/03/2021 15:21

@Emma301091 holy hell that's insane!! Makes my situation seem easy!

CaptainSpirit · 25/03/2021 15:34

@peach1234 Can't wait for the toddler groups to open back up, I think I've missed them most of all! I used to take my older DD every week, DD2 was just a tiny newborn last time it was open. She'd love it now!
