HCG level 81

Hi all,

I got my first positive test on Tuesday 16/03 it was really faint and barely visible. I took a CB digital and it dated me 1-2 weeks since conception which fits perfectly with my timeline and ovulation tracking. I began bleeding on 17/03 and have been on and off every day now. I took another CB digital and it has progressed from 1-2 to 2-3 and again this fits my timeline. However, I had a scan at EPU today and they couldn’t see anything which I knew was going to happen as I should only be around 4 weeks at the minute and not 6 weeks as they dated me using my LMP.
I then got my bloods taken and my HCG is 81, they said this doesn’t really say much at the minute so I’m back on Thursday for a second round to see if the HCG has risen or fallen. Has anyone been in this situation with a HCG of 81?

I honestly feel like I’m setting myself up for failure. I had a MC in May 2020 and being back in the ultrasound room was just awful, I feel like history is repeating it’s self.

Sorry if this post doesn’t make much sense I just wanted to vent somewhere and seek some positive stories or any advice anyone has as my head is doing over time with all this waiting around I feel like my brain is going to explode.

Thanks for reading

Hcg level doesn't mean anything by itself and if you're only 4 weeks, the average hcg level is between 5 and 400.
It's all down to how it rises, not the level itself.
My 2 pregnancies that went to term, I was always the lower end of the hcg. At 5 weeks, it was only 30. But it doubled and that was the main thing, he's now 8.

Where as I have had 2 miscarriages, one of them, my hcg level at week 5 was 3000.
It also pretty much doubled too, 48 hours later, but still ended in miscarriage a few weeks later

Thank you for replying. I’m sorry for your loss. It’s a strange time isn’t it with my son I didn’t even bother about any possible complications / hcg levels nothing like that crossed my mind so really do feel like the innocence and happiness of pregnancy has been snatched from underneath me x

Thank you for commenting. I feel like I am going out of my mind! That’s amazing, it just shows that bleeding doesn’t always mean something serious.

My LMP was 08/02 I got Peak ovulation on 25/02 and my first positive 16/03 although very faint. I’m testing everyday like a mad woman. My CB has progressed from 1-2 to 2-3 back to 1-2 and now 2-3 again I feel like screaming. Got my bloods tomorrow again to see if HCG has increased or not just feel so anxious it’s horrible.

I hope all is well for you and look after yourself ❤️

Omg!! That’s crazy isn’t it I’m so glad everything worked out for you that is honestly amazing 💙.

I have my second lot of bloods tomorrow at 11am, currently taking regnant tests every day like a mad woman. I’m honestly terrified of tomorrow’s outcome. I told myself that I would take this on the chin but I’m not doing a very good job of that unfortunately. I just pray this wee baby sticks so much because he/she is loved so much already and I have a little boy who would be the most amazing big brother!

Will update tomorrow hopefully with good news xx

Hi Hun

What time are your bloods, I'm requesting more blood today when I see my midwife just because another week waiting on a scan feels to long.

I’ve just had my bloods done at 11 they said they would phone me either today or tomorrow with results. Feel sick with nerves ☹️

They’ve asked me back on Saturday at 10am for another ultrasound and more bloods. They said that it’s meant to double every 48-72 hours but mine has only risen by 13%. She said that could be normal in early pregnancy or could be a sign of ectopic. I am so worried ☹️ Xx

Bless your heart ❤️ there is nothing worse than over thinking.
Right this is the time to keep your mind busy. Get some baking done or go on a bike ride. Set your mind so it's occupied. I know it's hard to focus on anything else but you need to keep busy busy. Sending big hugs 🤗

Chica1990 · 25/03/2021 20:08

Sorry @user1473880439 you must be so stressed. Prepare yourself that they may not see anything on the screen as your hcg levels are low. They couldn’t when I had an ectopic with levels over 200 anyway.

If you are having an ectopic they may want to monitor and see if it self resolves or offer you the Methotrexate injection. If you are it’s better you’re finding out now before it becomes an emergency situation so you can have more options.

Fingers crossed for you ❤️

I’ve never experienced an ectopic before I just know it’s not good. What will happen and how will they confirm it if my levels are so low? Xx

I also want to know this as I’ve only had on and off bleeding for 8 days. Sharp pain in right side which resolved itself and I feel quite well within myself now 😕

@l16bxt I had what I thought was a period, a few days break and had bleeding which was really thin and red before bleeding loads more a week before my next period was due. I randomly did a test before going to a friends house to use her hot tub as I had had niggling pains in my back (I thought that could be implantation) and got a positive, in general I felt completely fine. Weirdly enough the pain and bleeding had trailed off just after I got referred to the EPU.

@user1473880439 they may determine it if your next hcg level is stagnant. They were really hesitant to confirm it with me after 3 blood tests and 2 scans so I actually had surgery to diagnose and remove it but most people on here with low levels seem to be offered the injection which means they can keep both tubes.

user1473880439 · 25/03/2021 21:30

@Chica1990 So sorry to hear of your experience thank you so much for sharing. I honestly don’t know where my heads at I feel like it could explode. I got my positive on 16/03 it was so faint it was barely visible and then I got a 1-2 on a CB digital. I wiped away light brown blood on 17/03 and have been on and off bleeding for 8 days. It’s not been heavy, it’s been when I wipe or a dribble in a panty liner nothing excessive like my last MC. It’s been light brown, dark red, pink and even like a rusty orange at some stages. I had mild cramping last week when the bleeding began and a sharp pain in my right side near my ovary. All that stopped quite quickly. I’m now wiping away really dark brown blood that almost is black. I feel quite well within myself minus a bit of tiredness but I don’t feel really unwell or anything. I just don’t understand what’s going on at all but I suppose I’ll get more answers on Saturday xx

OP posts:
Chica1990 · 25/03/2021 21:47

@user1473880439 the waiting for answers was a horrible limbo and I’m sorry you’re there, it all takes a lot longer than you would have thought doesn’t it?

Was the blood quite watery before? If you weren’t getting checked out already I would have said the black blood was a reason to speak to a GP. I don’t know about you but they seem to ask about my bleeding a lot so log it and let them know when you go in on Saturday.

I’m glad you don’t feel unwell on top of this mental strain! I’m really glad they are keeping an eye on you, you’re on your way to knowing what’s going on. It’s cruel it’s lockdown so you can’t go distract yourself :(.

Still got my fingers crossed for a good outcome 🤞🏻 Let us know how you get on? X

user1473880439 · 25/03/2021 21:55

@Chica1990

Definitely it’s the wait that’s the worst. I spoke to my doctor as soon as I started bleeding and have been updating the ladies in EPU everytime I visit. Currently it’s very dark brown almost black and it’s probably enough to fill a teaspoon but that’s about it. It mostly comes after using the toilet.

Thank you so much for sharing your journey with me and I’m so sorry for what you’ve had to go through ❤️ I’ll update on Saturday hopefully I’ll get more clarification then although my local EPU is closed on Sunday so hope I’m not waiting till Monday for the blood results

@user1473880439 good keep information overloading them!

It’s no problem, it’s surprisingly how common it is. Things ended up really turning round for me, I got a BFP on 6th jan this year, 3 months exactly to the day I had the operation for the ectopic. I had been trying since July 2019 and I wish the next day in hospital when I felt chewed up and spat up by the whole TTC journey that I knew good things were coming.

I will be thinking of you Saturday x
