NIPT Result wait time

29 replies

Moominmiss · 11/03/2021 11:45

I had my harmony NIPT test done yesterday morning at 12+2.

They said up to 10 days for results but did say it’s usually quicker than that and if it’s getting near the end then I can phone them so they can chase the lab.

I know it’s only been a day and it’s going to be into next week before I’ll hear anything but just wondered what everyone else’s experiences were of wait times?

My anxiety is through the roof lol.

I had it done at Ultrasound Direct.

Also very worried about getting an inconclusive result as my bmi is 32.

Thanks in advance!

Hi. I also had mine with Ultrasound Direct. I had it on a Sunday and received the results on the Friday afternoon so 5 working days.

My friends first results were inconclusive but she received the second results 2 days after they informed her, hers was still under the 10 working days time frame.

Hope all is well, it’s a nerve wracking wait

Honeydukesmum · 11/03/2021 12:27

5 working days ( sent to a local test centre) and bmi 39 ( done 12 plus 2)

Moominmiss · 11/03/2021 12:38

Thank you @WalkingMeAway, so realistically I could be looking at Tuesday next week for results.

God it seems like so far away! Lol.

Did your friend manage to get results from the second lot?

@Honeydukesmum seems like 5 working days is what I’m looking at!

I’m not sure where the testing lab is that my sample would have been sent to. I’m assuming London (I’m south west).

@Moominmiss

I would assume Wednesday as it won’t get to the lab until today. Anything earlier is a bonus !

Yes they got results from her second vial of bloods.

Keep us updated Smile

Moominmiss · 11/03/2021 14:35

Thank you @WalkingMeAway I just need a fast forward button!

Can I ask if you had a phone call?

I’d read on the ultrasound direct website that you’d get a call if it was high risk and an email otherwise.

But at the end of my appointment the lady told me that I should expect a call either way, and they’ll phone me to tell me my results are in and am I free to talk about it, and then after the call I will have a confirmation email sent to me.

I’m glad she told me as I’d have panicked like mad if I got a call without being told!

Will definitely keep you updated!

It depends on which lab they use? Mine sent my blood sample to America so took the full 10 days

Moominmiss · 11/03/2021 16:17

@ivfbeenbusy they said it’s a UK based lab but I don’t know where. I’m assuming there isn’t a lab locally to where the clinic is so I assumed london would be the nearest, but not sure.

The wait is just awful 😩

I had mine done by ultrasound direct last summer. Results were back exactly a week later (5 working days).

WalkingMeAway · 11/03/2021 19:26

@Moominmiss no phone call here. Just an email with the header RESULTS

I remember the anxious wait well!

Moominmiss · 11/03/2021 19:39

See now I don’t know whether to be worried by a phone call or not. She definitely said I’d get a call first either way. I even clarified with her that if it was low risk they’d still call, and she said yes. They’ll ask if you’re free to discuss and then they’ll tell you. Then follow up with an email.

But that’s just not what it says on their website and now I’m petrified of getting a call because it’ll mean high risk 😩

I had mine a few weeks ago. Test Friday, results following Thursday. No phone all though, just an email. Longest week ever though!

WalkingMeAway · 11/03/2021 20:03

Maybe the different clinics have different procedures. Don’t panic !

Have you had your NHS scan ?

Moominmiss · 11/03/2021 20:06

@WalkingMeAway no it’s not until I’ll be 14 weeks!

@Moominmiss
I got mine today with ultrasound direct also
The lab is based in London
I posted the samples off myself as the receptionist said it would get there quicker as she couldn't post it until after they closed
It was pre paid 24h tracked
She said with covid were looking at about 10-12 days but hopefully 10
I had one done a few years ago and I got them back after about 5 working days so I'm hoping sooner
Both the receptionist and the sonographer told me I would get a call and a email

Tottington · 11/03/2021 20:33

Had my results back today ... 7 days exactly (5 working days)

koot · 12/03/2021 05:45

Had mine last Tuesday at East Surrey and still waiting on results... 😑

RuthieJ85 · 12/03/2021 10:59

I was planning to have a test with ultrasound direct, but a clinic down the road from me has literally just started advertising a new NIPT test by Melio Health, has anyone heard of them or even used them?

justchecking1 · 12/03/2021 13:22

Had mine at the end of Feb and they took 5 working days. Keep an eye on your email as I didn't notice mine for a day!

Moominmiss · 12/03/2021 13:25

@justchecking1 I’m checking it every 5 minutes 😂

Hi just to update - had my results back this afternoon!
Best of luck x

Greenrubber · 19/03/2021 10:34

@Moominmiss hey have you had your results back yet? I'm still waiting on mine and the worry is getting worse Sad

Moominmiss · 19/03/2021 18:51

@Greenrubber I had a call yesterday (6 working days after the test) to say they needed to do a redraw as couldn’t get enough dna 😭

I’d already been panicky that I should’ve gone for the SAFE nipt test (more suited to women with a higher bmi - mine is 31/32), so I went to the birth company on Harley street today and had the most amazingly detailed scan (more detailed than the nhs 12 week scans), they gave me a risk factor based on my age combined with the scan findings and nt measurement etc, and then I had the blood draw done.

With the harmony test there’s a 3% chance of needing a redraw and they need 4% fetal dna to do the testing. Obviously women with a higher bmi are more likely to have more of their own blood circulating which is why often there’s less fetal dna to be found in the samples.
The SAFE only requires 2% fetal dna to do the testing and there’s only a 1% chance of needing a redraw.

So now I’m in a new wait! Although they said up to 7 calendar days rather than working days. So hoping by mid next week I might hear something.

I have been offered a free redraw with ultrasound direct for the harmony one, but honestly don’t know if I’ll bother.

@Moominmiss
Ohh that's annoying! I hope it all goes well and hopefully you don't have to wait to long it feels like forever when your waiting

WalkingMeAway · 20/03/2021 08:56

@Moominmiss ahh how annoying! I’m so sorry this has happened to you. Keep us updated I hope the week goes quickly for you x

LaceyMermaid · 20/03/2021 11:41

@Moominmiss my SAFE test took 8 calendar days to come back so just to want you not to panic if it’s taking a while (I had mine done through the nhs though after a high risk screening result so not sure if they makes a difference). All was ok though so long wait didn’t mean bad news.
