I'm 9 weeks pregnant now and my eating habits have not been the best. I have not always been having breakfast. Some days lunch snd tea is late. This is due to some financial issues the past 2 months. I'm so worried

I don't understand what the problem is. You are not eating enough due to lack of money?

Why would lunch and tea be late due to financial issues?

I have to wait for my boyfriend to come home. However I get paid soon

Is your boyfriend preventing you from eating until he gets home so you have food but aren’t allowed to eat it? Or is he the one bringing food home with him so there’s no food until he arrives? You need to explain a bit better soap so people can make suggestions.

SeeYouInAnotherLife · 06/03/2021 07:27

Sorry, not sure what that random ‘soap’ is doing there!

No he brings the food home. He would not stop me from eating. My main question is I'm worried the baby may have stopped growing

Why does he need to bring the food home each day? Where does he get the food from?

Is there a food bank near you that you can access?

ElderMillennial · 06/03/2021 07:32

You don't need much to keep baby going at this stage but you do need to eat. Are you taking folic acid and vitamin d? Your gp or midwife might be able to give that to you for free.

Yes I'm taking folic acid

It won’t affect babies growth, but you need to get a food bank referral and inform your midwife so she can get you some support.

I’m sorry I’m going to sound awful here too; but why on earth did you get pregnant in these circumstances? You sound already stressed and anxious so this is only going to make it worse and already at 9 weeks pregnant, you’re panicking about not being able to feed your child.

Why does he not bring food home for the next day? What is he bringing, is it just a takeaway for that night? Why can you not leave the house during the day to get food?

OverTheRainbow88 · 06/03/2021 07:37

I would speak to your GP and see if they can arrange for the healthy start vitamins and access to a food bank

User1511 · 06/03/2021 07:37

The baby will be fine, it will be you that will have a health problem.

However I am very concerned that you are pregnant and cannot afford to feed yourself or even have cereal and milk in the house. How will you afford a baby? They are not cheap. Nappies alone cost a fortune.

Please seek help.

SeeYouInAnotherLife · 06/03/2021 07:41

No one, let alone a pregnant woman, should be going hungry. If you are not eating because you cannot afford food, the you must ask to be referred to a food bank. I would consider confiding in your midwife as well to see if support can be put in place for when the baby arrives. As a PP has said, babies are expensive little things and you will have the ongoing expense of nappies and formula (if you choose not to breastfeed).

FuckyouBrennan · 06/03/2021 07:45

Are you getting everything you’re eligible to OP? I know you mentioned getting paid soon, so I’m assuming you’re in work. You will be able to get SMP or maternity allowance depending on how long you’ve been working.
You have checked to see if you’re eligible for a UC top op? Do you rent?

Alonelonelyloner · 06/03/2021 07:50

Firstly, the baby will be fine. As an example I had an anorexia relapse during one of my pregnancies and my baby was fine. For sure I wasn't, but she was. I was eating probably less than you on a daily basis for the duration. Not advisable but my point is your body will prioritise your baby. Babies are born during famines. Don't worry.

More importantly, you shouldn't be so dependent on your boyfriend that you can't even eat when he is not there. Get online, or get to the midwife and tell her what the situation is. You can claim benefits.
Your hunger and your needs and those of the baby will grow. Constantly. This situation is not right.

GoryGilmore · 06/03/2021 07:55

Some women barely eat properly for months due to morning/evening/all bloody day long sickness so I wouldn’t worry about the baby’s growth as long as what you are eating is fairly nutritious and you’re taking the necessary vitamins. Perhaps budgeting and bulk cooking would be sensible rather than waiting for your partner to bring food home daily; it’s an expensive way to live.

JorisBonson · 06/03/2021 08:01

Why does he have to bring food home? Can you not get a few basics, bread, eggs etc, so you always have something to eat?

I agree with PP about thinking how you're going to afford this baby if you can't afford to feed yourself.

ElderMillennial · 06/03/2021 08:02

I was going to say babies in the early stages often get by on not a lot as many women have reduced appetites and sickness at this stage but you need to be able to feed yourself and your child.

JackieWeaverFever · 06/03/2021 08:17

A bag of pasta, bread eggs, some veg and tinned tomatoes is £5 and will make breakfast and lunch for a week. What is wrong with you?

If you actually can't afford to eat regularly why are you are having a baby?????

How on earth do you plan to provide for it when it arrives?

OverTheRainbow88 · 06/03/2021 08:37

Don’t worry about your baby not growing, remember lots of women have severe morning sickness and can’t hold down any food at all.

Make sure you take your vitamins- which you can get from GP or MW for free. Try and get a referral to a food bank ASAP.

How much money a week do you have for food?

My financial issues are nothing to do with anyone. I was meant to get paid but didn't so I had to wait another month. My boyfriend is very busy at work so I don't like to nag him. He would always make sure I have eaten without fail. So everybody asking why I'm having a baby, I was a bit more stable then, and this is just a blip at the moment. We are getting are selfs sorted and are saving. Lack of money does not mean I'm not gonna care for my baby. I have over 6 months left I'm sure I'm gonna be okay. As I said my pay will be starting again. My main question was about the baby, but I think people care more about the financial issue. I do go out and get lunch now and again, but due to my anxiety being through the roof also it can be hard.

FuckyouBrennan · 06/03/2021 11:10

If you’re only 9 weeks pregnant, you’ve got longer than 6 months left and that’s a very big jump from being stable to having no food in the fridge.
People are rightfully concerned
Do you have any savings?
Why do you not do a weekly food shop?
Why can your partner not bring home food for subsequent days?
Are you off work at the moment? Why are they paying you late?

SweatyPie · 06/03/2021 11:11

Why can't you go and buy the food? He can give you the money and you get it, why do you have to wait for him?

Why is he only getting one day's supply?

FuckyouBrennan · 06/03/2021 11:12

Unfortunately, lack of money does mean you’re unable to care for the baby. If you cannot afford to feed and clothe a baby, that is not meeting basic need and therefore not caring for it.

I will have the money, it's just this month. Everybody is being really nosey now and I feel like this is getting me more stressed then anything. We normally just get food as we go on the day. I do get get money of him. I will be saving my money, I'm already saving but it's locked away. This baby was not planned, but are use telling me I should get rid of my baby??? I do go and get food now and again but as said my anxiety can be very bad some days. We are gonna start the weekly shop soon. So within the next 2 weeks there will be nothing to worry about as I will be back on my feet
