SO Disappointed with my 12 week scan pics

Dudedudey · 02/03/2021 15:45

I went for my 12 week scan yesterday and I saw an agency sonographer who was one of the coldest people I have ever met in my life. We aren't allowed partners in with us at our local hospital and this is my first baby so I was a little anxious anyway but to make things worse my scan pics are AWFUL! I asked if he could do any clearer ones and he just said no and that was that! They are so blurry and one of them looks like an old guy with a mullet!

I suppose theres absolutely nothing I can do about it either apart from pay for a private scan. I am so disappointed.

The scans for the baby's sake not yours, baby ain't going to be sat posing for you!

Wait until the 20 week scan, much better as baby will be a lot bigger, and congratulations !

VivaLeBeaver · 02/03/2021 17:33

The clarity of the pictures depends on the quality of the actual machine and also on the position of the baby. It’s not like the individual sonographer has to focus the image like an old style camera.

They are what they are. 🤷‍♀️ Chances are after the baby is born you’ll never look at them again. I lost mine and nabbed some off the internet to put in DD’s baby book! 😂

I'm sorry @HopingForOurRainbowBaby - I unfortunately also found out about an 11 week loss at my 12 week scan and was offered photos. I decided against having them (I had photos from a healthy-looking 10 week scan) but at least I had the choice. Very cruel that you werent given that choice.

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 02/03/2021 17:35

@JackieWeaversAuthorityHere

My last pregnancy I came away from my 12 week scan having been told my baby had died shortly before. You have a healthy, moving baby inside you who is now passed the most dangerous part of a pregnancy, you should be delighted.

Head. Wobble.

I'm currently 34 weeks pregnant and if you think the photos are bad now, wait until your baby is so big you can't see anything but the profile of a nose or a foot/hand!

I am so sorry it's heartbreaking for you. Thanks
SakuraEdenSwan1 · 02/03/2021 17:36

Posted too soon, awful
being told baby has died at your scan, but congrats on your ok pregnancy

EL8888 · 02/03/2021 17:38

I’ve never seen any super clear scan pictures

Skymum82 · 02/03/2021 17:49

Ha ha, my 20 week scan for my first all I got was a foot! 😂

GabsAlot · 02/03/2021 17:53

i didnt know it was for a photo shoot-is that anew thing

inappropriateraspberry · 02/03/2021 17:56

The scan is to assess the baby and you, not a photo opportunity. Yes, it's nice to get a picture but it really doesn't mean much to anyone but you and the father - they all look the same. What did you expect, baby smiling for the camera?

AMMCIAC · 02/03/2021 18:00

I'm sorry but can't you just be happy that your baby's ok? I had bad news at my 12 week scan. I'd have given anything to only have bad photos to be sad about.

TheLumpySofaCushion · 02/03/2021 18:02

Aww. OP, i really feel for you.

I think you've had a hard time here.

It's your first baby, your partner wasn't allowed in with you, the sonographer didn't seem kind or make you feel happy.

Yes if course people get bad news at scans (I have myself more than once).
Yes of course it's a medical procedure.

But it can also be a celebration and something to look forward to, and you've been deflated.

Sorry OP -xx

beelzeboob · 02/03/2021 18:08

Sonographer here, the scan is first and foremost there to check the health of your baby, and accurately diagnose any problems.
Obviously a kind and caring sonographer helps but it is a stressful job and we as a profession have had a terrible year dealing with covid.
Getting a Instagram ready pic should the lowest of the low of your priorities

autumncountryleaves · 02/03/2021 18:11

Op if it makes you feel better, in my twelve week scan the baby looks like a turkey.

I was just happy all was well!

AlwaysLatte · 02/03/2021 18:29

Oh I'd be so glad to hear the baby was OK, and to see it, that I wouldn't care at all about the grainy photos or the baby looking like it has a mullet! One of my DS13s scan photos has him apparently looking directly at the camera and he looks like he's some sort of alien skeleton - the stuff of nightmares. He's grown up into a very handsome young man and doesn't scare anyone!

Airyfairymarybeary · 02/03/2021 19:07

This is really insensitive. You are very lucky to have a safe, healthy baby at your 12 week scan. A lot of us haven’t had that privilege.

ftmum94 · 02/03/2021 19:15

I have joined the thread too late to see the scan pictures but I can understand your disappointment especially considering your partner couldn’t come with you. Yes hormones can make us make a big deal of things more than we maybe normally would but I don’t think you should feel bad for the way you feel.

Sunshine1982flowers211111 · 02/03/2021 23:24

@beelzeboob hi I’ve just been reading this thread. As you’re a sonographer I wondered if you wouldn’t mind me asking how often you find something wrong? I’m worrying myself Completely Sick about my 12 week scan - it’s next week and I can’t sleep, I’m so anxious. The worry has completely taken over x sorry xx

JayAlfredPrufrock · 02/03/2021 23:27

I lost my 12 week scan photo.

I’ve got the 21 year old in bed upstairs instead.

ScottishStottie · 02/03/2021 23:30

Its a medical procedure, not a photoshoot...

MoroSun · 02/03/2021 23:35

You’re about to become a parent. Time to grow up

PFin · 03/03/2021 02:41

I got one crappy scan picture sent home with me with first baby and it just looked like nothing lol. Was just glad everything was ok tho. Book a private scan if you want an array of good shots, I had a private scan and was emailed at least 30 images and sent home with a dozen. Cause you have paid they are really willing to take as many as you want. 20 weeks scan pictures are better tho, far clearer.

SD1978 · 03/03/2021 02:50

I think a lot of parents have an unrealistic approach to (all) public NHS scan photos. Whilst something as a momento or to post on line would be nice- it's not the purpose of these appointments and not really their job to try and get the baby's best side/ angle. Can you partner go to a private scan with you? 12 week scan is about assessing viability, and for certain chromosomal abnormalities. If you get someone who also has the time/ patience to fart around with getting you the 'best' picture- bonus. If they don't, then they also haven't done anything wrong

FlashBathroom · 03/03/2021 02:55

@2bazookas

Just wait till its born; all mess and no make-up. Shits a lot. Won't tell you why it's crying. Might be pudgy plain with little screwed up eyes and a square mouth like Donald Trump.
😂😂😂
RainbowMum11 · 03/03/2021 02:57

But is everything ok with the baby? That is what scans are for.

AtLastEarwax · 03/03/2021 02:58

Go private they are only like £100 where I am
