Cyclogest stories!

Hi all,

I’m pregnant for the fourth time. No living children (yet). I’m on Cyclogest and aspirin this time round to try and support a pregnancy to last. I’m 4w6d.

Anyone been on these for the same reason and have some happy stories to share? Have been issuing the Cyclogest since 10dpo when I got my first positive. Nervous as heck that it’ll mask a miscarriage (have half-convinced myself I’ll never carry to term). Just need some positivity xx

Hi op,
I’m so sorry for your losses, they’re heartbreaking.
I had 4 miscarriages in the past year.
I’m now pregnant again and started taking aspirin from 1dpo and cyclogest from about 5 weeks pregnant. So far this is the furthest I’ve got. I’m 10 weeks pregnant. I’ve had several scans and have another one today.

I’ve no idea if it really is the aspirin and progesterone that have made the difference this time but that’s the only thing we’ve done differently!

Good luck!

RachaelRed · 27/02/2021 09:46

Thank you @Moominmiss and congratulations. I’m so glad it’s working for you. Did you get an early scan?

Can I ask please, with the Cyclogest did you have creamy discharge? I’m just wondering if it’s normal. Keep squinting to see if there is a brown tint to it, but not sure there is. I know it’s unhealthy. But only bad experiences have led to so much doubt

Sorry just saw your comment about the scan @Moominmiss :)

Hey! I had 2 early losses and am now on cyclogest and aspirin 150mg. I’m only 7 weeks but this is the furthest I’ve ever got without seeing brown/red blood 🤞

I hope to be able to give you a happy story for this pregnancy soon! I haven’t had an early scan, I’m kind of too scared. With my first pregnancy I paid for one and saw a HB at 6 weeks but then lost the baby a few weeks later.

I might wait until my booking appointment if I make it that far (in 2 weeks) and ask if I can have one then xxx

Moominmiss · 27/02/2021 09:52

@RachaelRed I was given a scan with the EPU at 5+4 because of my recurrent losses. We amazingly saw a heartbeat. Something we’ve not seen with any other pregnancy. It was at that appointment that I was given the cyclogest.

I’ve had several private scans since, the latest at 8+4, and have another one today.

With the prssaries, YES loads of white discharge. It’s messy. The nighttime one is ok as I’m in bed so nothing comes out, but the morning one I have to wear a pad otherwise I get loads in my underwear. It’s totally normal. I was prewarned about it!
It’s the waxy coating that comes out so don’t worry at all.

If you prefer you can use the pessaries rectally instead of vaginally. I’ve not done this but have heard from many women that choose to use them this way as it causes less mess.

I still check the toilet paper every time I wipe for fear of seeing red, pink or brown discharge. I think after experiencing a loss it’s just impossible to fully relax. I’m not sure I ever will, even if this pregnancy continues to progress normally!

RachaelRed · 27/02/2021 09:57

@Cafeaulait27 it seems like a happy story so far. I have everything crossed for you.

Each time I’ve lost it’s been at home, so by the time we’ve got to the hospital there’s been nothing to show except for high HCG. So devastating. I am going to go for a scan at 7 weeks as that’s the point that I usually miscarry, so to be able to (hopefully) see a heartbeat would be so amazing.

I’ve every hope that this is your time xx

@Moominmiss that’s excellent about the heartbeat so early. It must have been a huge relief.

It’s kind of an off white colour. I hope that’s normal too. I’ve given up on my knickers being ruined. It doesn’t bother me too much luckily.

I hope today goes well.xx

@Moominmiss it’s excellent you go to go to EPU so early. My clinic have essentially washed their hands of me now I’m pregnant so I have to wait until 7 weeks to book in for a scan. Hoping to the powers that be that it’s a positive experience x

Cafeaulait27 · 27/02/2021 10:05

@RachaelRed ah thank you, I hope so too 🌈 good luck for your scan and keep us updated!

Also just to note I’ve been taking my cyclogest rectally from the start. I’ve heard a lot comes out when it’s vaginally so I figured the best way to make sure it’s all absorbed is up the bum! It’s not fun putting it in there but nothing leaks and I can just forget about it. I just have to be careful with timing my bowel movements! Xxx

RachaelRed · 27/02/2021 10:08

@Cafeaulait27 maybe I’ll swap it out for the other end :) thank you xx

Hi all,
I have been on cyclogest and 150 aspirin since 5 weeks. I am now 14+4 I have had no spotting since taking it and have never got this far before after 2 losses. I have had my dating scan and all looked good. I now plan to reduce my does of cyclogest until 16 weeks when I will stop. I personally found it way better just to bite the bullet and insert it in my bum for less mess and no irritation. I can't say its what has got use this far but I have never been here before without! Only down side is I have put on a stone and bit in the first trimester haven't eaten that well but by no means enough for this weight gain! I think the progesterone may have something to do with it!

Mmr224 · 27/02/2021 16:27

I've used cyclogest for IVF, the discharge is annoying but normal. I used to swop front and back because sometimes it causes irritation if used long term. J as normally using them from before the IVF transfer until week 13.

RachaelRed · 27/02/2021 16:34

Thank you @Leaf87 have you noticed a cream discharge? Not just white. I think I’m going to use the back passage for a bit and see how I get on with it

OP posts:
Leaf87 · 27/02/2021 18:25

@RachaelRed no real discharge using it the back way. Just a little when you go to the toilet. I was not keen on the idea but the hospital advised me it can irritate if used vaginally so decided I would administer as advised. In all honesty its really not that bad and easier than I imagined!

basilsenia · 27/02/2021 20:41

Hiya - im on cyclogest, this is my 5th pregnancy and I've no living children. 400mg pessaries daily and on aspirin upto 24 weeks, I'm now nearly 26 weeks!!

I hope this works for you Smile

Metallicalover · 27/02/2021 20:43
@Cafeaulait27 maybe I’ll swap it out for the other end :) thank you xx
I had come onto the thread to say this! I found it much easier and less messy.
Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well xx

teachermam · 27/02/2021 22:21

Hi I just got a positive yesterday and started taking the progesterone and aspirin yesterday
I've had 2 misses over 2 years, last one was in July at 7 weeks
I do have 2 children and had 2 misses before them
However I'm now just turned 41 so I'm hoping this pregnancy will work out
It's my first time using meds as my children were conceived in my early 30s

RachaelRed · 27/02/2021 22:28

Hi @teachermam congratulations. I hope it works for you xxx

I started taking mine at 6 weeks (had to get it privately as I’ve only had 2 losses but now have an nhs prescription for the rest) she specialist said it wouldn’t be too late, I really hope it’s not too late. I hadn’t had any bleeding when I first started taking it but my first mc the baby died at 6 weeks.

I’m too scared to have an early scan but hope it’s all ok in there xx

Moominmiss · 28/02/2021 08:07

@Cafeaulait27 I really don’t think it will have been too late to start it at 6 weeks.

I didn’t start taking mine until I was prescribed it at 5+4 and like you all but one of my losses had happened around the 6 week mark.

I had my latest scan yesterday and baby was perfect, measuring 4 days ahead at 10+3 (10+4 today). Seeing it kick about and wriggling has been the most reassuring thing for me.

I’m sure when you do have a scan you’re going to see a perfect wriggling baby! Xx

I am currently 14+3 with a healthy pregnancy. I started on aspirin and cyclogest from around 5 weeks pregnant following a previous miscarriage. I stopped cyclogest at 11 and a half weeks and all seems to be progressing well

RachaelRed · 28/02/2021 12:09

@SS123456 congratulations! I’m pleased to read you’re on the other side of it now :)

@Cafeaulait27 I’m taking every week as a milestone. I’ve got everything crossed for you. Please let me know how you get on. Thinking of you x

OP posts:
teachermam · 28/02/2021 13:01

The first few weeks are so hard
I've had 4 misses altogether so it's hard to be positive
I'm trying not to over think and I've only done one test on Friday
I've 2 children and back to work tmr so will try keep occupied

RachaelRed · 28/02/2021 17:49

@teachermam they are so difficult. i've also got low-amh so not sure how that impacts on my pregnancy success rate. Only time will tell. Fingers and toes crossed that this all works out for you x

Hi ladies. Appreciate this thread has been inactive for a couple of months but I've just been prescribed cyclogest. So was looking for information and this thread came up. I'm 8 weeks, had on mc and one mmc. Wondering how your all getting on with your pregnancies? X
