22 weeks leakage and cervix funneling

Hello,

After 4 miscarriages last year all at first trimester which included a missed miscarriage, I am now 22 weeks pregnant and desperately hoping to have a healthy first born child.

Yesterday went for a cervical length scan as I worry about everything and wanted to make sure I wasn't at risk of pre term.. And they discovered a shortening cervix at 18mm with funnelling but they could not do emergency stitch because I am also leaking a bit of amnio fluid 😢

Has anyone experienced this before and had a successful outcome?

@Bumblebee902021

Hi all, thank you so much for well wishes. 24w + 2 days now. At home and on bed rest and just over a week since circlage. Some doctors are pessimistic and others are a bit more optimistic that I'll gain a few more weeks. Next milestone is 26 weeks 🤞 hoping that I remain stable and really hope to prove some doctors wrong! I am monitored for infection but not having any scans etc because they don't want to risk infection xx
How are you doing OP? x
Peachee · 10/03/2021 21:11

Op I’m so sorry for the stress you are having to go through. Sending bags of strength for you and your baby!! Will keep following and praying so hard for a happy outcome for you xxxx

Bumblebee902021 · 10/03/2021 21:35

Hello everyone, so sorry I don't update often! I am currently 25w 3 days 🤞 thank you all so much for your well wishes, advice, positivity and prayers. Also love seeing this the posts of some of you about the wonderful outcomes with your kids and your own experiences.
Taking each day at a time and feeling blessed as each day goes by, trying to remain positive as much as possible. Again, really appreciate all your posts, and I'll try to keep up with the updates more regularly! Xx

Hi OP! I have no advice but I've read through your journey so far and got my fingers tightly crossed for you! Thanks

CatkinToadflax · 11/03/2021 07:06

Brilliant! 25+3 is fantastic! Flowers

Rosebud2016 · 11/03/2021 07:20

No experience of this myself but just wanted to send you lots of strength and hope. You have done fantastically to get to 25 weeks OP.
I pray that your little one will stay nice and snug in there a bit longer. You are doing incredibly x

LarsErickssong · 11/03/2021 07:22

Wow 25+3 is amazing!

If you had asked me before I joined Mumsnet many moons ago whether a baby born at as little as 23/24 weeks would survive I would've said there must be next to no chance. However there's been several threads over the years that have stuck with me and now I would say they have a fighting chance! It might be worth looking back for some older threads not only to help you feel more positive but they might have some good advice on them that you can store in the back of your mind just in case this little one makes an appearance sooner rather than later.

Fingers crossed that they stay put for many more weeks though Thanks

robertsradiofan · 11/03/2021 07:31

Hi bumblebee,

Sending you a huge hug. I've heard lots of success stories with the emergency stitch. I have incompetent cervix too and have been where you are, so understand the fear.

Have the doctors started you on steroids yet to get babies organs growing a little quicker?

If you search for Professor Shennan on Google (he works through Tommys) he has developed a swab to detect if you are about to go into labour and is nothing sort of a miracle worker. He is incredible but is based in London so may not be feasible to see him but if you do struggle with your own medical team I'd recommend going to see him.

Good luck, every day is an achievement.

Bumblebee902021 · 11/03/2021 08:04

Thank you all so much. I had the steroid shots given at 24w. I luckily have an incredible doctor that decided to put an emergency stitch when I had dilated to just under 2cm with membranes showing and funnelled fully. I have gained about 1cm of length back from 0 and still funneled to stitch with membranes in cervical canal but it has bought this much time so far and each day when I wake up, I feel my son is being given a better chance so I am lucky.
I am monitored for infections too which apparently is the main cause of potential pprom and so far so good. 26w is next milestone and then will aim for 28w etc thereafter 🤞❤️

Amazing. Keep that baby cooking. You're doing amazing! Thinking of you x

Rosebud2016 · 17/03/2021 16:33

@Bumblebee902021 So pleased to hear your update!
Are you on full bed rest at home now? Have you had any recent scans? How is everything looking?
Keeping everything crossed that you go far beyond 28 weeks x

Bumblebee902021 · 17/03/2021 16:47

Thank you all for your lovely wishes, really heart warming especially through a scary time.
@Rosebud2016 full bed rest at home (though doctors didn't recommend it but I'm too scared not to be if that makes sense). No more scans since stitch placement as they don't want to introduce potential infection xx

Oh @Bumblebee902021 I'm so happy for you. Before you know it u will be 28 weeks then it will be the next milestone x

Bumblebee902021 · 17/03/2021 20:33

Thank you so much @boymum88! You helped me tonnes from the start of this journey and your advice has been invaluable. Feeling so blessed to have made it this far so far when initial outlooks were so bleak xx

OP posts:
stuckinarutatwork · 17/03/2021 20:34

@Bumblebee902021 If you're on full bedrest, are you being monitored for DVT? Hopefully this in hand but thought I'd mention it (a relative had a stroke in pregnancy as a result of bedrest so I'm always keen to mention it!).

boymum88 · 17/03/2021 21:12

@Bumblebee902021 I'm glad I've been helpful, incompetent cervix is really shite and a lot of lady's know nothing about it until it's to late, like myself having my first at 28 weeks.
Before u know it the weeks will tick by and ur will be 36 weeks and getting ready to meet the wee one.
The last poster made a good point about dvt. If u r on complete bed rest best to have a chat with ur dr and get fitted for some ted stockings and blood thinners or set up a routine of get up and out of bed have a wee walk x

Bumblebee902021 · 17/03/2021 21:17

Hello @stuckinarutatwork thank you for mentioning, I was given 4 boxes of inhexa when I got discharged which is a blood thinner so I am using those at the moment which should help prevent DVT. Once they run out, I will make sure to have a walk/exercise limbs.
@boymum88 how is your little one that was born at 28 weeks? How's your current pregnancy going as you had a stitch placed this time at 13 weeks? Xx
