22 weeks leakage and cervix funneling

Hello,

After 4 miscarriages last year all at first trimester which included a missed miscarriage, I am now 22 weeks pregnant and desperately hoping to have a healthy first born child.

Yesterday went for a cervical length scan as I worry about everything and wanted to make sure I wasn't at risk of pre term.. And they discovered a shortening cervix at 18mm with funnelling but they could not do emergency stitch because I am also leaking a bit of amnio fluid 😢

Has anyone experienced this before and had a successful outcome?

Oh bless you hun, each day counts. The normal risk is that they can rupture the membranes but sounds like ur waters aren't intact ? It's goona be a very personal decision what you do, but I personally would try the stitch, anything to try and give u those extra days x

Did u manage to get added to the fb groups as I know the lady's on their have far more knowledge and advice x

Summer19 · 20/02/2021 08:56

The very best of luck OP

Bumblebee902021 · 20/02/2021 09:50

They said the test was faint positive for amnio fluid so they hope tomorrow it won't show. And if clear of that and infection, can have emergency stitch. The cervix is full funnel though 😢 hoping progesterone helps lengthen the tiny bit that's left. The full length including funneled part is 4cm, not sure if that makes any difference.
Petrified and really just hope my cervix magically comes back

Hi OP, just wanted to say that I’m thinking of you and to tell you about my boy. He was born at 24 weeks following an emergency stitch at 22 weeks. This was 15 years ago and there have been significant advances in NICU care since then. He is now a big smelly 15 year old. I’d be telling a whopping great lie if I claimed that his NICU journey had been an easy one or that he’s come through it all unscathed, but he’s doing amazingly well and makes the world a happier place. I’ve got everything crossed for you - every day, even every hour makes a big difference. x

Bumblebee902021 · 22/02/2021 06:55

Thank you all for encouraging words and really positive about your son @CatkinToadflax. Your stitch last two weeks? Did they give you reason why it didn't last beyond?

I just had the emergency stitch placed in and on strict bedrest now. Just hope so much that this will succeed in gaining more weeks. I am 23w x

That’s brilliant that they’ve put the stitch in and you’ve reached 23 weeks. Really good news! Smile They think my stitch only lasted two weeks because in hindsight I was probably in pre-labour already before they put it in, so it was never going to last long-term. I have heard other people with stitches who then gave birth a few weeks later refer to their “failed stitch”, but I consider mine to have been a honking great galloping success. It held DS1 in for those two vital weeks and eventually we brought him home. You being in hospital on bed rest is another plus - I was discharged from hospital following the stitch and told to take things easy but wasn’t on bed rest. Your excellent treatment can only be a good thing. I’m rooting for you x Flowers

boymum88 · 22/02/2021 08:22

Oh @Bumblebee902021 that's great news, so glad they managed to get the stitch in. Fingers crossed it will get you close to term as possible with bed rest x

Bumblebee902021 · 24/02/2021 10:06

Hello guys, sorry for late responses. @CatkinToadflax - amazing about your outcome. Really hope go have the same as you! @boymum88 I am indeed on bed rest back home. Was discharged yesterday. Now 23w 3 days. Each day is a blessing. Had some minor cramps once or twice since surgery and I think I may have lost mucus plug yesterday. Taking it easy and hopefully can see the weeks go by 🤞 I will update this thread as and when xx

@Bumblebee902021 thank you for the update, please keep us posted. Now is the time to sit on the sofa eat Ice cream and watch all the day time tv you can, let people look after you, forget about house work all that stuff can wait xx

Bumblebee902021 · 24/02/2021 10:14

Definitely! Did you have any weird symptoms following cerclage? Xx

OP posts:
TH22 · 24/02/2021 10:18

I have no experience in this, I just want to say good luck and I pray for the outcome you so desire xx

boymum88 · 24/02/2021 10:53

@Bumblebee902021 A sore back for over a week from the spinal and I would say pink orange discharge for about a week then went back to normal. A lot of lighting crouch for the first month or so.
Get a lot of braxton hicks this time which I can't remember having with my son. Think with a stitch pregnancy you are just hyper aware / worried. I also don't trust myself to know what's normal pregnancy stuff as only got to 28 weeks last time x

CatkinToadflax · 24/02/2021 14:21

🤗

I had exactly the same stitch side effects as Boymum mentions.

Just don’t be afraid to go back to the hospital and get help if you feel anything isn’t right. I went back when I started contracting and was seen by a total moron of a doctor who refused to examine me and told me to go away and stop wasting his time. I often wonder if DS could have stayed in me for longer if it hadn’t been for him. Anyway, that’s for another thread - I just wanted to say don’t be afraid to ask for help at any time at all if you feel that things aren’t right. Thinking of you Flowers

AngelDelightUK · 24/02/2021 14:54

So pleased you got to 23 weeks. Hope they are keeping a close eye on you

LarsErickssong · 28/02/2021 21:35

Hope you are still getting on ok OP and having plenty of BrewCake

Bumblebee902021 · 02/03/2021 14:56

Hi all, thank you so much for well wishes. 24w + 2 days now. At home and on bed rest and just over a week since circlage. Some doctors are pessimistic and others are a bit more optimistic that I'll gain a few more weeks. Next milestone is 26 weeks 🤞 hoping that I remain stable and really hope to prove some doctors wrong! I am monitored for infection but not having any scans etc because they don't want to risk infection xx

@Bumblebee902021 I have not been through this personally but am currently being monitored for a weak/short cervix. Sending you good thoughts and Flowers

boymum88 · 02/03/2021 16:00

@Bumblebee902021 great news. Like you say little milestones, if ur Eva worried about anything go straight up 2 the hospital as they can now give u steroids to help baby's lungs. Every day/ week makes such a different

CatkinToadflax · 02/03/2021 16:14

AWESOME! Smile That’s really brilliant news. DS1 made his entrance at 24 weeks and 4 days, so you are very nearly where I got to. Hope you can get way way past my milestone. If it can give you any hope at all, he is being extremely irritating today and resembling a fairly standard 15 year old! Grin

Every day can make a difference. DS1 and I are proof of this. Flowers Cake Brew

mamatocaptainchaos · 02/03/2021 16:22

Just to let you know, I had my son at exactly 28 weeks. He is 9 now! And absolutely wonderful. Good luck to you! X
