Hello, so sorry if this is in the wrong place, im very new to this!
I got my first bfp 2 weeks ago (yay 😁) confirmed with digi that said 1-2 weeks so all good. Have become a poas addict over the last 2 weeks and all bfp on different brands, fairly strong line on frer but not a dye stealer at 5 weeks which made me panic a bit! Now 2 weeks later, still getting pregnant 1-2 on digi. And ive done a lot of them! I should be any where between 5-6 weeks so surely this should at least be showing 2-3 by now! Very very worried as i had a cp a few months ago and was devastated, scared the sames happening again but then why the bfp's for 2 weeks is whats confusing me? Any other experiences or advice on this would be great thank you 🙏 good or bad, maybe need to prepare myself for the worst.

Theyre not 100% accurate so I wouldn't worry too much

Pinkroses12 · 15/02/2021 09:36

Ive heard they're not always accurate so hopefully thats the case, just lots of women have dye stealers and 3+ by this point :(

@SnooperTrooper12345 this is most likely the 'hook effect' - once you get to around 6 weeks your HCG is so high the tests can't process it properly. I didn't test past 5 weeks myself. If you want to double check this is the cause, you can water down your pee to reduce the HCG, maybe by 50%.

MintGreenLife · 15/02/2021 09:47

sorry should have tagged OP then! @Pinkroses12

MintGreenLife · 15/02/2021 09:49

@Pinkroses12 I got my dye stealer and 3+ at something like 18-20DPO, so at 5 weeks, and then I stopped testing after that as I was told about the hook effect and didn't want to freak myself out x

LividLoving · 15/02/2021 09:51

Hook effect is much later. The only way to be sure at this point is an early scan. Hope you get good news.

MintGreenLife · 15/02/2021 09:56

@LividLoving Hmm, my understanding is that the hook effect comes into play from around 6 weeks. There are lots of threads about it on here. I may be wrong though!

Pinkroses12 · 15/02/2021 10:00

@MintgreenLife thanks for the reply. Sadly i dont think it's hook effect as i havent reached past 1-2 or a really really dark test at any point in the last 2 weeks.

@LividLoving spoke to gp this morning, mentioned i had spotting a couple of days ago and about the digi tests but they wouldn't refer me to epu. Feel like im losing my mind, so stressful not knowing whats going on

Your 1-2 is the number of weeks from conception. You then add 4 weeks to this because your pregnancy is dated from the date of your last period. So 4 + 2 would be right. They aren't an exact science though as hormone levels differ from person to person and they're just a general guide.

Pinkroses12 · 15/02/2021 10:04

Could be wrong but i thought 1-2 meant 3-4 weeks as you add 2 weeks not 4? Wish thats the case though!

I’m sorry, OP.

I’ve been there.

Can you pay for a private scan at a Window to the Womb type of place? They might do early reassurance scans.

@MintGreenLife hook effect won’t be relevant if she’s been testing throughout and not gone “past” the 3+ on a digi yet, is what I mean.

Hope you get something soon, OP.

Pinkroses12 · 15/02/2021 10:10

@LividLoving thank you. Me and my partner arent able to get a private one for 2 weeks so its just more waiting, i think its driving me mad now! I think i should probably be preparing for the worst at this point. If you dont mind me asking how did this turn out in your experience?

This is right, you add 2 weeks to the clearblue reading. So 1-2 is 3-4, 2-3 is 4-5, 3+ is 5+.

I truly hope you get a more positive outcome and that your dates might just be out/baby needs time to catch up.

BUT I wanted to share my own experiences of this happening.

I’ve had this happen in 3 of my 4 miscarriages. I never got beyond 1-2 weeks. Test lines never got that dark etc. Scans showed me to be weeks behind where I should have been. Then eventually bleeding started.

I know many say they aren’t reliable, but for me they always predicted the correct outcome. In my current pregnancy I got a 1-2 at 10dpo, 2-3 by 12dpo, and 3+ at 19dpo. I had a frer dyestealer by 13dpo.

I would try and see if maybe your gp would at least be willing to do hcg blood levels for you, 48 hours apart so you can see if the levels are rising or dropping.

Alternatively you could book yourself a private scan seeing as your doctor won’t refer you to EPU. The private places near me scan from 6 weeks.

I had a scan at the EPU (due to recurrent losses) at 5+4 and baby was measuring bang on with a heartbeat. Since then private scans at 6+2 and 7 weeks have all been spot on too.

Like I said I truly hope yours isn’t an outcome like mine, but clearblue were always spot on for me. Xx

Moominmiss · 15/02/2021 10:14

Also hook effect is much later if at all.

I’m 8 weeks and can still get a great line. With my dd I remember testing at 30 something weeks, just for fun and was still a blazing positive!

Mylittlesandwich · 15/02/2021 10:59

You're all right, I'm so sorry. I've looked back at pictures and I got my 3+ at 6 weeks exactly.

I still hope things work out for you.

Pinkroses12 · 15/02/2021 11:33

@Moominmiss thankyou for sharing that. Im so sorry to hear of your mc's. Its truly heartbreaking! Congratulations on your current pregnancy! Starting to lose hope for myself. My partner and i were going to wait a couple weeks for a private scan but i need to know ether way so we've just booked one in for tomorrow. Hoping for the best, preparing for the worst. Not sure how much could be seen though at this stage

1-2 = 3-4 weeks pregnant 2-3 = 4-5 weeks pregnant 3+ = 5 weeks pregnant

I hope you get good news op x

Sceptre86 · 15/02/2021 11:49

I hope you get good news op. X

Moominmiss · 15/02/2021 11:53

I think showing 1-2 weeks at 5-6 weeks could be ok, it’s the fact that 2 weeks later it hasn’t changed that would be the tell tale sign for me.

I think the hcg range for a 1-2 week reading is between 10 and 153. So if you had the minimum amount of 10 when you did your first digital, assuming that hcg doubled every 48 hours, you should have reached the threshold for the 2-3 within 8 days.

Obviously everyone is different though and some peoples hcg just rises much slower.

Sending you so much luck for your scan tomorrow. X

Unfortunately GPS aren't interested really even if you do have a miscarriage as it is so common.
Only thing really would be to get a private scan

Pinkroses12 · 15/02/2021 13:45

Thankyou for all replys, will update tomorrow. Hoping for the best🙏 will be glad to know whats going on though after tomorrow so i dont completley lose my mind!

Fingers crossed op xxx

Just a heads up the hook effect is very rare and doesn't happen often. I did a pregnancy test at 9 months to check. I'm 5 again now and still get strong lines as well.

Also seen loads of heavily pregnant people post a pic of their test to disprove the common claim of it being a hook effect.

Rosieposy89 · 15/02/2021 14:56

I would honestly just stop testing, all you're doing is reinforcing the anxiety. Pregnancy tests weren't designed to date pregnancies.

Pinkroses12 · 20/02/2021 20:31

An update for anyone that comes across this as I often found no updates whilst I was searching. Sadly for me, this hasnt been a viable pregnancy. Currently having bloods monitored as HCG was low and has only dropped very slightly after 2 days. Hoping for my body to resolve this natrually now. I truly hope anyone in this situation has a better outcome than me, stay strong 💐
