Weeing myself when being sick!

Name changed as this is embarrassing!

I’m wondering if anyone else has the same issue...

I’m 15 weeks pregnant with twins. Second pregnancy, and I’m still being sick about once a day. When that happens I completely lose control of my bladder. I find that I have to wear a tena lady pad everyday as if I don’t I can get caught out and soak my clothes. Sad

Never had this in my first pregnancy and I never noticed my pelvic floor being this bad after DD. I mean, i once jumped on a trampoline which didn’t go too well.. and I had a bad cough which caused some issues but nothing this bad.

Is it just the pregnancy or am I going to live in fear of this forever? I’m never sick usually so I’m not sure if it’s the twin pregnancy or whether it will always be this way. I’m so worried it will get worse! I’m not even 30 years old!

Stress incontinence, two babies putting pressure on everything!

coronafiona · 14/02/2021 22:08

I had exactly the same when expecting DTs. Lovely, isn't it Grin
Don't worry, it'll stop

newjobnewproblems · 14/02/2021 22:08

Yep happened to me in second pregnancy (not twins). Everything went back to normal after the birth. There is hope!

Greenevalley · 14/02/2021 22:11

This happened to me with 2nd dc. I was mortified as dh cleaned up.
Twins will definitely be putting pressure on your pelvic floor.
Just try, I know it will be hard with twins, but try to do pelvic floor exercises for a few months after giving birth.
My dh used to remind me before I got into bed and often I didn't feel like it but 5 minutes a day is worth it.

I am 22'weeks and have the same problem, getting caught out when sneezing is the worst!
Doidontimmm · 14/02/2021 22:17

I’m afraid I still pee if Im sick and my youngest is 17 Blush

Littlegirlplustwo · 14/02/2021 22:20

Oh my gosh I am so relieved to read this (but sorry you have had the same issue.) the joys of pregnancy!

One of my finest moments was projectile vomiting all over the bathroom whilst pissing all over the floor at the same time. DH had to do a clean up job bless him.

Yes the sneezing is bad! If I don’t wear a pad and I sneeze at the moment I literally have to go change straight away. Even if my bladder isn’t that full!

I was really good at doing my pelvic floor exercises, but it didn’t seem to help so I got lazy with it. Now it feels like such hard work. I know I need to get back to it though. Especially as I’d like to have another natural birth with the twins!

When you sit on the loo to wee, keep stopping and starting, that helps with bladder control keep doing this during and after baby. Only time you will be sat there doing nothing with twins for a few years.

Congratulations Flowers

Sorry to hear that. I do have a feeling it may not go away completely. I do seem to have quite a strong gag reflex, even when I cough which makes things a lot worse.

Apparently French mums have a course of physio after giving birth. Perineal re-education.
Seems so sensible.

3JsMa · 14/02/2021 22:26

I had it as well but only when puking. It was so embarrassing,I was being sick pretty badly and for a long time (until 26weeks) and after about 8 weeks it felt like I totally lost control of my bladder, albeit only when I was vomiting. It was so uncontrollable and forceful, each time I had to have a shower and change my clothes.Funnily enough I was only sick like this at home, never been sick outside, just nauseous.

DustyVenetian · 14/02/2021 22:28

All normal I think. I had this post partum after an 11Lb baby. And for a good while after.

It was particularly bad when I got food poisoning and whilst being sick all potential bodily fluids escaped at force from other end. I was horrified at the time.

Many years on I am please to say it's just my bladder causing an issue!

I would have been much hotter on the pelvic floor exercises in pregnancy if I'd known...

HoneysuckIejasmine · 14/02/2021 22:28

Yep, happened more often in my second pregnancy than my first. Lots of tena lights, and if I could manage it, I'd try to sit on the loo and throw up in the sink.

Yes! This is exactly like me. I just can’t control it at all during the wave of nausea.

I’m so so glad I am working from home otherwise I would have got myself signed off.

With DD I remember having sickness until about 16 weeks, I hope it will be similar but with twins I’m prepared for this to go on for a while!

Yep, 3rd pregnancy and HG sufferer. I have those little collapsible buckets next to each toilet so I can sit on the loo and vomit into at the same time. Not the most glamorous of moments, but needs must!

xHeartinacagex · 14/02/2021 22:46

I had this with both my pregnancies. I used to sit on the toilet while being sick into a bowl or it was like a flood.

Haven't noticed any problems since, even when I first had a couple of drinks and ended up being sick!

PFin · 15/02/2021 03:41

2nd pregnancy and happens to me, if i cough really hard and need to wee a bit it happens too. Nothing to be embarrased about 😂

PeggyHill · 15/02/2021 04:58

I'm on my second pregnancy and I always piss myself when i throw up. It makes the whole experience even more unpleasant.

Also I was sitting on the sofa the other day and suddenly sneezed. Pissed myself. Yay.

I'm hoping my bladder goes back to normal once I've recovered from birth.

irishmamatobe · 15/02/2021 08:39

Hi it's my first babies and pregnant with twins and happens to me even in the first trimester while being sick, I was shocked 😳 because I haven't had a baby before so didn't think it would happen to me, now 17 weeks and I wee when I sneeze! I think it's just one of those things of pregnancy! The joys! But nothing to be ashamed off

JemimaTiggywinkle · 15/02/2021 11:15

NHS Squeezy app! Reminds you to do pelvic floor exercises, it’s the only thing that makes me actually do them.

I still have weed a bit when vomiting particularly violently, but I think it helps generally. It’s the only app I’ve ever paid actual money for, and I don’t regret it.

Littlegirlplustwo · 15/02/2021 19:02

@irishmamatobe sounds like you can’t escape it with a twin pregnancy! I can imagine it is only going to get worse. Congratulations on your babies. Flowers

@JemimaTiggywinkle thank you I’m going to have a look at that ap! I really do feel like there should be more care after giving birth, I think way too many women have these problems and just kind of feel like they have to accept it.

Literally this just happened to me this morning I’m 23 weeks pregnant with my first child and I’m 27 years old, as I was being sick I felt fluid come out looked down and had wet PJ Bottoms the leaking stopped immediately so I straight away went onto Google and have been googling for the past 1 hour if my waters broke and I’m in pre term labour or if I’ve weed myself so I called my midwife which was rather embarrassing as she confirmed it sounds as though I have indeed weed myself she said it’s quite common and it’s because of the strain when your being sick if your wretching quite hard 😂😭

justasking111 · 29/09/2022 12:50

Yep I had bath mats in front of the loo. Hand towel works as well.

I do the same sit on the loo and vomit into a bowl. Saves the cleaning up
