subchorionic bleed in early pregnancy

Dhano21 · 14/02/2021 08:10

Hi all i'm 5 weeks pregnant.

i have seen brown and red blood when i wipe down there everyday since last sunday . As i was really worried i booked a private ultrasound to get it checked and found out that i have a subchorionic bleed.

I have had a previous miscarriage at 6 weeks and a termination of pregnancy at 20 weeks due to fetal abnormality last year .

I'm extremely worried and stressed. Has anyone else here had a subchorionic bleed?
How long did the bleed last for? At how many weeks did go away? please can you share your stories i'm really scared worried and scared.

@Dhano21 , I had a synchronic bleed at about 6 weeks, when I had another scan at 7+2 it was seen to be shrinking. I continued to have brown discharge for about 10 days. I am now 11 weeks pregnant and have no problems since, midwife thinks it has now come or away or been absorbed. I have a scan next week so hopefully that will confirm. I was told at the time of the bleed it wasn't effecting baby at all and is quite common. I hope yours disappears soon xx

Crazylemon86 · 14/02/2021 08:33

It should say *subchronic

kdd1980 · 14/02/2021 08:39

@Dhano21 I'm 6 weeks pregnant and they found a subchorionic bleed on Thursday as I'd had some bleeding and was measuring behind dates. I was told that there is no greater chance of MC from these bleeds and that there has been a lot of recent research into them to say that they do not cause MC. I'm taking comfort in that and hope you can too. I'm going for a follow up scan next Thursday to see if things are progressing ok as a precaution because I've had 6 previous MC's but they would not have called me back for a follow up otherwise as they were not overly concerned and it was just because of my history they need to be cautious

Livingmagicallyagain · 14/02/2021 08:41

I had this at 5.5 weeks, a huge red bleed. Scanned straight away and they saw the huge SCH (three times bigger than sac). No more bleeding but scan one week later was inconclusive. A week after that baby was right size, heartbeat etc. SCH still there but was gone by 12 week scan, all OK now at 31 weeks!

It's scary, can go both ways but I've readdress often than not ends ok.

Fingers crossed for you.

@Crazylemon86 Thank you for commenting .
Did you have bleed/spot for 10 days from 6 weeks or 7+2days ?

Also at how many weeks did you see a fetal pole?

So I only had the actual bleed for 1 day and then it was brown discharge from then on. I had a scan on the day of the bleed and a heartbeat was seen I think I would have been 6+5 to be exact. I had a late miscarriage last year so really worried when I saw bleeding which is why I got the scan straightaway.

Namechange600 · 14/02/2021 08:54

I had this ten years ago!! Had lots of sudden v heavy bleeds from weeks 5-9, but my baby survived and is now 9!
I rested a lot and that seemed to help. It was extremely nerve wracking as I had taken 3 years to conceive. Later diagnosed with severe endometriosis and adenomyosis. Baby arrived a little early but at term as I understand is possible with SCH. Best of luck. Xx

Dhano21 · 14/02/2021 08:56

@kdd1980 Thank you for commenting. I want to say i'm really sorry for all your previous MC i know how it feel to loose a child. I pray and cross my fingers that on Thursday when you go in everything will be good and healthy just as it should and you come out of your scan with the biggest smile and have a healthy and safe pregnancy.

Have you had any spotting or bleeding?

If yes how long for and has it stopped?

I had a SC with Dd2, it scared the living daylights out of me. Stood up to go to the printer at work and felt something odd. Rushed to the toilets stuffed my underwear with loo roll and walked back to my department checking for a blood trail... I told my line manager I was going to epu where they checked and scanned me. I was absolutely convinced it was a MC (I'd had one at same gestation the year before) but baby was fine... I was 10 weeks, bleeding was intermittent for a couple of weeks while it drained. Sometimes red fading to brown then coming back, never as dramatic again though. Daughter was born at 42+1 and is 4 and a half now.
Good luck OP.

@Crazylemon86 @kdd1980 @Livingmagicallyagain @Mysa74 @Namechange600 Hi all did you guys also experience a bit of cramping too when you had the bleed/spotting

OP posts:
Livingmagicallyagain · 14/02/2021 09:14

@Dhano21 I bled bright red blood, a lot, all day, for around 9 hours. But not really anything more after that. Maybe slight old blood for a day or two.

I took progesterone suppositories from that day until 14 weeks. It can help though sometimes you get an orange/pink/brown/black discharge from them so be prepared for that.

At 5 and a half weeks there was a sac and only a tiny fetal pole. At 6 and a half weeks there was the embryo plus heartbeat but I was full of gas so the measurements were unreliable, it appeared that the sac hadn't grown and baby was measuring much much too small. At 7 and a half weeks baby was measuring perfectly, sac too, strong heartbeat. SCR was still big but from that point I felt more hopeful.

I never had cramping.

kdd1980 · 14/02/2021 09:53

@Dhano21 yes I have cramping too

kdd1980 · 14/02/2021 09:56

@Dhano21 sorry message sent too soon. Yes I went to EPU initially because of cramping and bleeding. They scanned me a realised I was measuring smaller than my dates so asked me to go back on Thursday for another scan. The baby had grown by a week but the bleed was showing this time so they want me back again next week. I had a bit of a bleed on Tuesday too. It seems to be when I have overdone it. The first one was after I'd been for a run so I've stopped running for now. So scary isn't it but the doctor said they are not usually a concern, it's just because of my history and dating a bit behind

kdd1980 · 14/02/2021 09:57

@Dhano21 just to add, the EPU put me on progesterone and aspirin after the bleed. Might be worth looking into?

Dhano21 · 14/02/2021 12:51

@kdd1980 Hey did you ask them to or did they do it by themselves.

I am on 5mg of folic acid due to previous fetal abnormality

Dhano21 · 14/02/2021 12:52

@kdd1980 is this though nhs ?

OP posts:
rooarsome · 14/02/2021 13:35

I had a huge bleed at 11 weeks. I 100% thought we had lost the baby. It lasted forever about 5 weeks, brown old blood for the last 2 weeks.
He's now happily snuggled up on my boob at 12 weeks old Smile

kdd1980 · 14/02/2021 14:53

@Dhano21 did I ask them for the progesterone and aspirin? No they decided to prescribe it based on my history and the bleed. I'm also on 5mg folic acid. I have to say though, I was on all those meds last time too plus metformin and it didn't make any difference sadly so not 100% reliable! Yes all through the EPU at the NHS x

Dhano21 · 14/02/2021 18:08

@rooarsome Hey thank you for sharing .

did you bleed/spot for five weeks continuously including the brown discharge.

did you have the brown discharge and bleed/spotting every single day for the five weeks?

Yes it was continuous for me- finally tapered off and I had no further bleeds during the pregnancy Smile
