Gender scan experiences? Anyone ever been told wrong?

I have a boy already and really I wanted a girl this time round. Booked a gender scan at a private clinic at 18 weels and she was a bit wishy washy but did say it was a girl. At my 20 week scan sonographer said she agreed it was a girl. Now knee deep in dresses, rompers, frilly bodysuits and pink everything, im a paranoid wreck that its going to be a boy. Has anyone ever been told wrong gender?
Thanks

Have this same fear 🙈

Whattodo1610 · 30/01/2021 21:48

Not a gender scan ... but my friend had 4 very detailed scans after 20 weeks due to problems with the baby. Each time she was told it was a boy, very clearly a boy, told by different sonographers. She already had a boy and was pleased she could use his clothes etc for new baby.

Fast forward to delivery, she had a girl! Her partner was frantic that his ‘son’ didn’t have a tadger ... kept telling the midwife frantically that his son was deformed, didn’t have a tadger. It took a good few minutes for the midwives to calm him down and he finally understood he had a daughter. My friend said it was a good thing she didn’t have an emergency c section (asleep) as she wouldn’t have believed the baby was hers - the scans had been so detailed, everything measured etc due to growth issues, no doubt it was a boy.

So yes, they can be wrong ... I hope yours are both correct!

I have an older dd and a newer boy and DS is wearing all his sister's frilly pink stuff so don't worry it'll be fine either way.

PFin · 30/01/2021 21:50

@Whattodo1610 this horrifies me 🙈😂 what the hell was it there were seeing in all thise scans lol!

SueEllenMishke · 30/01/2021 21:51

Not me but my friend was told she was having a girl twice but a mutual friend who is a sonographer thought it looked like a boy on the pictures so scanned her .... it was a boy.

DicklessWonder · 30/01/2021 21:55

Now knee deep in dresses, rompers, frilly bodysuits and pink everything,

This is a much bigger issue, to be honest.

Tootsieslide · 30/01/2021 21:57

pf ... honestly have no clue. The scans were very detailed, measured bones, organs ... and very sure it was a boy.
🤷🏼‍♀️

Chelyanne · 30/01/2021 21:58

Never. But I could also see for myself what was between the legs and after baby number 2 didn't even need telling lol. H7bby on the other hand hasn't a clue what he's looking at on scans.

MindyStClaire · 30/01/2021 21:59

A woman in one of my birth groups went in to have her baby boy and came out with a baby girl. I don't know what scans she'd had though.

PeanutButtaCups · 30/01/2021 22:01

A friend went for a gender scan and was told she was having her 3rd girl. She went for another scan later on and was told she was having a boy. She had a little boy in the end

PFin · 30/01/2021 22:08

Does look like a girl to me OP

Sheleg · 30/01/2021 22:28

Get a grip and grow up, honestly. I'm embarrassed for you. The only thing you should fear at a scan is that there's no heartbeat, not that it's the "wrong" sex.

Frilly rompers... I mean really.

Christ.

PFin · 30/01/2021 22:38

WOW! Catch a grip yourself. The judgement, unbelievable!

Tootsieslide · 30/01/2021 22:41

@Sheleg Why come out to judge people, just dont comment if you dont like it. You know non of us. And for YOUR information it would have been no problem if it had of been a boy, as long as they are healthy, first thing I was concerned about wad a heartbeat. I simply wanted to know how common it is amoung mumsnet to be told wrong sex, due to the things I have bought, been passed down and gifted are for a girl and im thinking god bet this turns out to be a boy and half of its not suitable.

@Shelg any particular reason you wanna take out your irk this evening on a lady a little excitedly anxious about her upcoming arrival??

OP don't worry about it.. Only time you'll know for sure is when you give birth. I'm sure if the baby is boy you will sell your girly bundles easily.

Tootsieslide · 30/01/2021 22:45

@loopyapp thank you and @PFin. Its people like that shaming others makes you not want to share any thoughts or concerns.

Miffyliffy · 30/01/2021 22:52

I friend of mine announced on FB she was having a boy with ultrasound pictures of the potty shot....

Everyone was commenting on how 'big' the boy bits were. 'huge testicles', 'def a boy'

And it turned out a girl.

Tootsieslide · 30/01/2021 23:02

Thanks ladies! Defo happens alot more than you'd think!

Yes friend was told girl and she had a boy.

CliffordMouse · 30/01/2021 23:18

There's literally nothing to say any baby clothes are for boys or girls. So if it's a boy you just put the clothes you've bought on it, no problem. PS girls can do more than just wear pink frills.

Mseddy · 30/01/2021 23:24

The amount of people making this into something so much more that it is and having a dig at op is ridiculous! If she wants to dress a girl in pink and a boy in blue so what. That's her choice. People making out that dressing a baby girl in pink frills is somehow going to restrict her future is crazy!!

Yeah. All those studies into the harm gender stereotypes do by limiting both sexes. And it starts before birth with crap like frilly dresses.

You can know it and ignore it. But there’s far too evidence to deny it.

SirB0bby · 30/01/2021 23:38

I can't even tell it's a baby from the scan photo, let alone whether it's a boy or girl!
