Katharine,
So, so sorry to hear your news. It must be so gutting. Do hope to hear some good news soon.

Ghosty · 05/11/2002 07:01

Hi ... This has been a sad time and I keep thinking about Katherine but I have also been wondering how everyone else is feeling at the mo?

Bundle, are you ok? How did the test go?

Everyone OK?

Thanks everyone. I'm doing OK. Got a tree to plant with the baby now. Mumsnet has introduced a miscarriage thread so I'm going to hide there for a while but we plan to try again after christmas. Hope everything goes well for you all, I still keep thinking of you all.

Jodiesmum · 05/11/2002 09:12

Yes, this is a sad time and I almost feel like I shouldn't mention my own worries as they're so small compared to having a miscarriage. But I would like advice... I've been bleeding now for a good 3 weeks - it's fairly light but constant and really getting me down. I had a scan a week ago which was fine, so felt completely reassured for a while but now starting to get a bit worried again. Should I be going for another scan or do I just sit it out and hope it goes away soon? I've heard bleeding can go on throughout first 3 months and then just stops - has anyone had this? I'm nearly 10 wks now but 13 still seems like a long way off.

Ghosty · 05/11/2002 09:24

Hi Jodiesmum - sorry that you are feeling low ... have you spoken to your m/w about it? Can you phone her to set your mind at rest? Can you maybe go to get a fetal heartbeat thingy (don't know the jargon) ... my sister heard her baby's heart beat at 11 weeks ...

I know that I would be panicking if I was in your shoes so I think I would be asking all sorts of questions ...

Katherine - I am glad you are bearing up ... great idea about the tree ... hugs to you from me ...

Jodiesmum - I really feel for you. Its so hard isn't it. Bleeding is terrifying but all depends on the pg. In my case it has always been bad news but I know loads of other mums who have had heavy bleeds and been fine so don't despair. But you must be going out of your mind not knowing so I think you should do something. The Early Pregnancy Unit I went to was great. You can just phone them up and they will see you pretty much straight away. They have offered to scan me as often as I need it next time so don't feel bad about asking for another scan. But a unit like that is your best bet, my local unit couldn't scan me for another week and I couldn't have endured the wait. Get yourself some answers - its not knowing that drives you crazy. Loads of hugs.

OuiOui · 05/11/2002 15:07

Jodiesmum - I can totally sympathise. I had 2 scares in my first pregnancy. At about 8 weeks after a long and stressful day at work, I started light bleeding and then at 10 weeks started again. Both times were so scarey - I just totally lost it. I think it was my body's way of telling me to slow down. Was referred to my EPDU both times and was amazed to see the "pulsating peanut" - I now have a healthy boucing toddler. I know that bleeding is scarey and I'm now 8 weeks into my second pregnancy and I always check each time I go to the toilet. Are there any mothers to be out there who have no anxieties at all?

Jodiesmum · 05/11/2002 17:02

Thanks so much, Ghosty, Katherine and OuiOui, I feel much better just for your understanding (though still bleeding away unfortunately). I think you're right I need to get it checked out again, as the worrying really gets out of hand, despite knowing things were fine just one week ago. As you say, bleeding seems to mean different things for different pregnancies. I'm going to give it a couple more days, then go back to the Early Pregnancy Unit where I had the scan last wk.

Good on you jodiesmum ... let us know how you get on ...

Hi Jodiesmum, I know exactly how you feel. I am now 17 weeks pregnant but I had constant light bleeding/spotting from about 6 weeks right up until 12 weeks. I think the first trimester is hard enough without having to cope with that. Like you, I had an early scan at about 6.5 weeks and thankfully all was well, although interestingly the sonographer did say (off the record) that she was fairly certain that there was another pregnancy sac and this would account for the spotting. Nevertheless, it just seemed to go on and on and it was a very hard time. I telephoned the EPU on two further occasions but the advice I was given was that provided the loss didn't get any heavier or wasn't associated with any pain, then it was just "sit it out". It was very hard and I lost count of the times I "checked my knicks" during the course of a day.Thankfully it did eventually stop at 12 weeks but it seemed like an eternity. I think the worse thing was not really knowing whether I was still pregnant or not, especially since I had very similar symptoms back in April and then went on to miscarry.
My midwife was brilliant and said that she would try to listen in to the heartbeat at 11 weeks and thankfully we both heard it.
I do sympathise Jodiesmum and please let us know how you get on. Thinking of you and have my fingers crossed for you.

Jodiesmum · 11/11/2002 08:30

Hi again, I didn't get to read those last couple of messages until today due to interminable and very demanding visit from inlaws. The combination of them, an over-excited 2 year old and all day sickness has been hard to bear. Luckily though, all this activity has also given me less time to worry about the bleeding which is still going on but a tiny bit less, I think. I haven't been for another scan yet though I may, later this wk if I get the urge. Rang my (not very sympathetic) GP on Fri who didn't think it was worth going unless it gets heavier and/or painful. Melly it was so helpful to hear your story and it sounds like you were told exactly the same. It's really comforting to hear it did stop and you've got all the way to 17 wks - well done! I can't actually believe I'm not pregnant as I feel so unbelievably awful at present - sick, exhausted and verging on hysterical. I've lost count of the number of times I've had to apologise for bad behaviour this last wk - thank God they're going tomorrow!

OuiOui · 12/11/2002 10:58

Hi everyone - hope all is well.
Am being sick every other day so not much fun - also my belly's coming along nicely even though I'm only just over 9 weeks. Ineed a whinge! I'm having a highly frustrating time with Drs/midwives. For over 3 weeks, trying to get my first booking in appointment and they keep c*cking it up! Sent me along to the wrong appt - then said hadn't sent the referral letter so couldn't see the midwives. Keep chasing and they still haven't sent the referral and the midwives won't set up appt until drs have sent a referral - the saga continues. I'm so frustrated - why are people so incompetent? At this rate I'll be in the labour ward having my first scan... Any one else had the same problem???

Hilary · 12/11/2002 11:52

I have been following this thread for a while ever since I suspected that it applied to me but now I am admitting it. I have been to the dr's this morning so it all feels a bit more real. My third child is due at the beginning of July. Not feeling sick yet but am grateful for every day of non-queasiness as I have been quite sick with both the boys. Hoping for one of those pregnancies you hear about which doesn't involve rushing to be sick at all hours of the day for weeks on end. Do they really exist!?

OuiOui · 12/11/2002 13:36

Welcome Hilary and congratulations. Yes - they do exist. My first pregnancy went swimmingly (abr a few hiccups) I wasn't at all sick, my usual Sinusitis went away and I was in great health. Not the same this time am sorry to say. Good luck and eat some ginger biscuits!

bundle · 12/11/2002 14:20

Ouioui, I had the same problem. But because I was very keen to have a nuchal scan (I'm 37) my appointment was quite date-sensitive so I rang the ante-natal dept who advised me to get my GP surgery to fax it through to them that afternoon & the appointment was made sharpish for my scan. I also got them to mark it for my consultant's attention which seemed to get them moving! good luck and don't feel shy about being pushy

OuiOui · 12/11/2002 14:54

Thanks Bundle - I did giggle about your remark about "not being pushy" - my friends and colleagues would have a right laugh at that comment. will try again a bit later

bundle · 12/11/2002 15:02

me too, OuiOui, Stroppy is my middle name

OuiOui · 13/11/2002 10:32

Bundle, I overcame my "shyness" and chased my dr's secretary - who decided after 2 weeks, that in fact I did need to see the dr. I went in yesterday evening and am finally registered onto the system and now need to wait for my first midwives appt and scan date. How is everything with you?

bundle · 13/11/2002 10:46

great news Ouioui, good to get the ball rolling. I'm 19 wks today and having my anomaly scan tomorrow. still haven't got the results of my amnio but as the prelim ones were good, I'm feeling pretty positive. bump is getting bigger and the only real downer is I have developed spots...never had this many even as a teenager. convinced it's a boy (& his testosterone) which is causing this!

OuiOui · 13/11/2002 11:13

I have one spot and have been sick on and off - am also convinced it's a boy - girls are so much better behaved!!! - Good luck with the anomaly scan (isn't that such an awful term? If I remember correctly, aren't you in North London? where are you having babba? I'm at the Whittington.

bundle · 13/11/2002 11:18

me too, dd was a Whittington babe and I've no complaints so I've gone back there. the building's grim and the antenatal clinic is usually pretty chaotic but so far this time I've been lucky with appointments/waiting times and one of the women on the desk there (Olga, I think) took me under her wing a bit when my booking was delayed. parking is atrocious though and the buses too unpredictable from where I live.

percy · 13/11/2002 13:59

Hey OuiOui and Bundle - I'm at the Whittington too - 16+ weeks at the moment. What a coincidence.

lisac · 14/11/2002 12:39

I'm also expecting my second (15+ weeks) and booked in at the Whittington! Had dd there last year and thought the staff were fantastic, though the wards were grim.

deegward · 14/11/2002 20:57

Great, the whole world is going to the Whittington and I get Watford!

Hope all is well with everyone, I have not posted as I have had a crap week, what with ds, and sooo reasonable dh. You do realise we are only pregnant! Just don't get me started. I have started active birth yoga classes, although I missed today because dh upset me so much last night I was still crying this morning (long story).

Baby is moving alot, although I seem to get a lot of pain - I think brackton hicks or am I too early (21 weeks).

Would be interested to hear views on how long you are expecting to stay in when you give birth. I stayed for the duration the last time, and loved every minute of it (different hospital, didn't need to provide anything for either baby or me until we left). But this time, I know I could prob leave after 6 hours . What do you all think?
