Nearly 30 weeks pregnant with my third child had a severe headache since the night before last do I need to ring a midwife?

It's mostly on one side over my left eye and is like someone is hitting me with a hammer from the inside. Paracetemol isn't touching it. I am stressed atm too so have put it down to that until now but am slightly concerned. Is it worth bothering the community MW about do you think or should I just see how it goes?

Ledodgy am 26 weeks and had this for 4 days fri-mon. Have history of preeclampsia so wnet to get BP checked. all was fine. How easy is it for you to get to a GP or clinic to get BP meaqsured. Have you any oedema?

ledodgy · 25/10/2007 09:51

No i've got no oedema gp's is a 25 min walk away which I really don't feel well enough to do I also have a 4 year old and a nearly 2 year old here and have no cash for a cab. I have no history of pre eclampsia but I did have high blood pressure at this point in my last pregnancy and my mum had pre- eclampsia when pregnant with me. It's probably just stress tbh house is up the wall as we're having a kitchen fitted and all is going wrong!

Had bad headaches with both pgs and always put it down to blood pressure and needing to get some rest. I'd give the midwife a call, maybe try and persuade her to come to you and see if you can find someone to take your 2 out for a few hours to give you a break.

VictorVictoria · 25/10/2007 09:55

Mine was definitely stress - see if you can get a community midwife out to check your urine if nothing else

ledodgy · 25/10/2007 09:56

Yeah a urine check may be a good idea since no one has taken it since I was 12 weeks.May give them a quick ring now and see what they say. Thank You.

worth giving them a call.... with no oedema and no visual disturbance, it probably just is a bad , bad headache.. make sure you are drinking enough water, can someone help with the other DCs so you can rest? cannot beleive you are almost 30 weeks !

Lulumama · 25/10/2007 09:57

you;ve not had a urine check since 12 weeks!!!

should be tested at every antenatal appt for sugar and protein..

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 25/10/2007 09:58

Get it checked out- BP can often be checked out at a local chemist but proteinuria / pre-eclampsia can start without raised BP so you do need a urine check.

Hope its nothing serious.

Just rang them and they said to go and get my bp checked at gps but i'm going to leave it as I have no one to look after the kids. I'll go tommorrow afternoon if it's still bad as dp only works on a Friday morning so can look after the kids.

LuLu I haven't had an antenatal appointment as such yet. I saw the consultant at 25 weeks and she just took my bp which was fine then and I have a mw appointment booked in on Tuesday for my first antenatal check but have no one to pick up dd from school so will have to postphone that one.

ledodgy · 25/10/2007 10:10

Fio it probably is exhaustion I haven't been sleeping and am mega stressed out/fed up etc etc

OP posts:
Lulumama · 25/10/2007 10:10

so between 12 weeks and 25 weeks you did not see a MW?

ledodgy · 25/10/2007 10:12

No round here you're first antenatal check after your booking in is around 28 weeks but the mw is so nooked up at our gps the first one I could get was 30 weeks.

OP posts:
ledodgy · 25/10/2007 10:12

*booked up not nooked up lol

OP posts:
Lulumama · 25/10/2007 10:13

crikey, that seems really bad. you need regular BP and urine checks if nothing else..is there only one MW? am really surprised

ledodgy · 25/10/2007 10:13

and i only got to see someone at 25 weeks because I have sticky blood which I have to take asprin for in a 'normal' pregnancy you wouldn't get checked between 12-28 weeks.

OP posts:
Lulumama · 25/10/2007 10:15

that is horrendous

hope everything is ok for you

ledodgy · 25/10/2007 10:15

There's more than one mw but they take it in turns to come to the gp's surgery for 3 hours every Tuesday afternoon which is a pain in the arse for me as no one can have ds on a Tuesday or pick dd up from school.

ledodgy · 25/10/2007 10:15

Thanks lulu.

i think in the Liverpool area you dont see anyone from 12 weeks till 28 weeks....apart from having your 2nd scan.

PeckaRolloverAgain · 25/10/2007 10:19

Ledodgy, hope your feeling better, did you get checked?

Can I just jump in and agree that I cannot get over how little I see a midwife this time (31 weeks with number 3) and my other two pregnancies.

Im not due to see my midwife again until 34 weeks and last saw her at 27 and time before that was 16 weeks but only because I opted for a blood test to check for spina bifada and downs markers.

Didnt it use to be every month, then every fortnight then every week?

I am appalled.

BTW your headache sounds EXACTLY like mine which was from doing too much and lack of sleep. Nothing more sinister than that. But even so I am staggered that you haven't had better care.......

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 25/10/2007 10:42

Ledodgy, if you can get to a Lloyds chemist they can often do your BP there and then, you wouldn't need childcare.

here you get a check at 12 weeks, then MW from 22 weeks onwards (also booking in with her at @ 8 weeks). So its better, I think. Only slight nark is that I won't have bllods done properly until then as the MW at the 12 weeks appt lost my bloods and I just got a letter sayinga k OCmm. MW to redo as and when, please.

Never mind though!

Naetha · 25/10/2007 11:54

I'd definitely get it checked out for pre-eclampsia, but I've been having horrendous headaches for the past 6 weeks (I'm 31 weeks now) that don't get affected by paracetamol at all.

Midwife's response was "oh it's just one of those pregnancy things".
