Am getting towards the end now and could not resist 'gliding' onto the scales and was horrified! Am I right in thinking 2 - 2.5 st is about normal? - Mine is more than that!

I weighed myself the other day and I've put on 1st 12lbs, which is about average apparently. I'm really really pleased as i was convinced i'd put on alot more!

Come on, spill the beans. How much have you put on?

OK honestly I am a natural size 18 and I only put on 4lb during my pregnance and was back in my jeanse three days after c section. I have no idea why it was only that much as i certainly ate for two.

One of my dear friend is a size 8 and has p
ut on over four stone with each pregnance then lost it over the course of a year.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 24/10/2007 19:02

About 25 kg each time.

empen · 24/10/2007 19:11

I have put on about 3.5 stone. I am mortified. I was a bit overweight before. In my defence my belly is MASSIVE and everyone thinks I look like I have more than 1 in there so I must be holding a lot of water (I am trying to make myself feel better about this.

This thread was supposed to be full of people saying they had put loads of weight on - to make me feel more normal and less heffer like!

Whats 25kg in Lbs?

ok, so no-one wants to make me feel better about my horrendous weight gain then

Empen - the 'normal' range for weight gain depends on your BMI to start with, so you need to take into account your start height & weight, and also whether you are carrying twins.

Assuming you are expecting one baby, and had a BMI of between 19-25 to start with, then 2st 6lbs is the average gain, with anything between 2st - 2st 12lbs being healthy weight gain (again, depending on your height).

I am 30wks and already at 26lbs (just short of 2 stone), so would be delighted to put on what you have by the time I am through this pregnancy.

BTW, I gained closer to 3st with my first, but over the following 18mths, lost all that weight, plus half a stone - down to breastfeeding, daily walking, and running around after a toddler.

All the best.

PigeonPie · 24/10/2007 20:24

empen, I put on a lot more with my first than I have with my second (but I might put that down to having a doughnut for lunch at work most days last time!).

Last time I was about 8 3/4 stone when I started and was about 11 1/2 just before I gave birth, however, like Anonymama I managed to lose it all and more in 12 months.

This time I've put on just over a stone and am now 26 weeks, but I put that down to running round after a 2 year old and not eating doughnuts although I imagine as I get less mobile I'll put on more.

Breastfeeding was definitely the way to go for me to lose it all though.

fruitymum · 24/10/2007 20:28

10kg and lost 9 of it by the time we came home from hosp on day 5. Bet I won't be so lucky next time. I did work up until 39 weeks.

3sEnough · 24/10/2007 20:31

Hi - 2 st with ds and 3 st each time with dd1 and dd2 - made concerted effort after each to lose it (after 8 weeks) and was back to normal by 1yr post birth (bf for almost a year each time though so it keeps a bit on for extra food!)

turtle23 · 24/10/2007 20:33

I am only 18 weeks and have put on 11 kilos. Enjoying it though as have not been able to gain weight since I was 22 and am now 35!

nappychangingmachine · 24/10/2007 21:02

I put on about 3.5 or 4 stone both times - did have a massive appetite when pg though and morning sickness was only slightly minimised by massive carb consumption . Lost it in about 6/7 months though both times - combo of walking and BF I reckon (and eating less than when pg ). Back to pre preg size now, though weight is distributed slightly differently and stomach muscles will never be the same again!

Caz10 · 24/10/2007 21:08

Is it anything to worry about if you DON'T put on the recommended weight? I'm 33wks and have only put on a stone - obviously not complaining but concerned it is not healthy?

IdrisTheDragon · 24/10/2007 21:12

I put on 4.5 stone with both DS and DD. Somehow went down to less than pre-pregnancy weight inbetween (although there is a little left over from after DD...)

threestars · 24/10/2007 22:20

When I first found out I was pregnant I actually lost weight (yippee!)- 2kg - because I gave up drinking wine. Unfortunately, at only 16 weeks, I have gained those kilos again and some...

beller · 25/10/2007 08:38

im 31 weeks and have put on 22lbs..im still going to the gym etc though and yoga...gym might be stopping son though...tooooooo tired! xx

noonar · 25/10/2007 08:44

i weigh 9.75 stone normally, and have gone up to over 13 stone with both pregnancies so we're talking about 3.5 stone. lost it both times within about 6 months doing lower carb/ wholefood 'diet'.

we're all different. dont worry!

silkcushion · 25/10/2007 08:59

empen - I was a size 18/20 before getting pg. My heaviest ever weight actually. I am 38 weeks and have put on 1 3/4 stone. However, I threw up constantly for the first 5 and a half months and only started to gain weight from 25 weeks on. am piling it on now though - possibly cos I'm eating a load of shite

crumpet · 25/10/2007 09:11

I average about 9 stone normally and with each pregnancy put on at least 3 stone (i.e. a third of my weight again!). Each time lost it in under a year

sfxmum · 25/10/2007 09:13

I was just under 10st when I got pregnant and got to 14st most of it over the last 2 months
what can I say I panicked!

not letting it happen next time

GoodGollyMissMolly · 25/10/2007 09:16

I am the same weight now as I was just before I got pg.
I lost a lot of weight in the first 20 weeks of my pregnancy due to morning sickness, and then just having no appatite at all. If I ever did want to eat it was only small amounts of fruit. I practically lived of fruit smoothies and tomato soup for about 10 weeks!!

I lost 3 stone in that time and have put that 3 stone back on but I am still the same weight IYSWIM.

teenyweeny · 25/10/2007 09:42

I'm 28 weeks and have put on 10.5lbs, was a normal size 10 before. DH says I eat less at meal times that I used to, the baby makes me feel full quickly, so I try to eat loads of little snacks during the day. Everyone is different though, my best friend put all her weight on at the beginning of her pg then barely nothing at all towards the end!

bluebell82 · 25/10/2007 09:58

I am 28 weeks nearly and I was 9.5 stone before getting pregnant I am now 12 stone.. all bump honestly!!!!

foofi · 25/10/2007 09:59

I put on about 3st with both of mine.

ELB1 · 25/10/2007 10:14

I was a size 20/22 and very heavy (BMI of 34) before PG but have "only" put on 11lbs so far (36+4 weeks now) so am quite relieved about that as if I had put on the normal weight gain of 2-2.5 stone that my ante natal class tesacher talks about I don't think I'd be able to walk.

I am probably kidding myself that I might end up lighter than my pre pg state after the birth, so I'd love to hear from any big girls who did manage that - and of course - how!

MaeWhooooohest · 25/10/2007 10:31

Before getting pg I used to fluctuate between 11 & 11.5 stone, which was a bit overweight for my height. When I got pg I put on about a stone, was to be back in my jeans by about 10 days. DS is now nearly 15 months and I appear to be hovering between 10 and 10.5 stone, so less than before I got preg.

I put it down to lots of breastfeeding (DS is a chunky lad), walking miles with the buggy due to non-sleeping baby, and the fact that I'm not sat on my bum in an office all week . Only trouble is none of my clothes fit now and I'm too skint to buy more
