Am getting towards the end now and could not resist 'gliding' onto the scales and was horrified! Am I right in thinking 2 - 2.5 st is about normal? - Mine is more than that!

I read that the average was between 1 - 2 stone... don't know.

Empen, Im going to make you feel really good about yourself - I put on 5 and a half stone when pregnant with dd (my one and only) don't know how as I had morning (afternoon and evening) sickness every day until 7 months (but then I did use pregnancy as an excuse to eat everything I saw )!!

Anyway, dd was 2 last week and Im down 4 stone 8lbs since having her.... (quite a bit to go!)

bethoo · 25/10/2007 12:37

i was just over 8.5 stone when got pregnant and by the end i was over 10! though a week later i was back to small size and weigh even less than before i got pregnant at 8 stone 2.5 pounds. i think it depends on what you were like before you got pregnant as well as genetics and your lifestyle.

RuthChan · 25/10/2007 12:47

I weigh just under 8 stone usually.
I gained 1 stone while pregnant.
I was worried that maybe it wasn't enough, but had no problems.
Everyone does seem to be different.

LittleMissLate · 25/10/2007 12:54

I put on about 3 stone and lost 2.5 of it within 2 weeks (the last half stone took about 3 months) - don't worry if it seems like a lot - could be lots of water (i still couldn't see my ankles a week after the birth).

I put on 3 stone with small babies to boot -on a 7 stone lady is not a pretty sight. After birth, I was pretty much the same weight.

Lost my weight with dd after 18 months.

Lost my weight with ds after 3 months! Goes to show how much more work is involved when there is a toddler to care for as well.

Piccalilli2 · 25/10/2007 13:23

I gained 4.5 to 5 stone with dd - stopped weighing myself at 40 wks so may have gained some more in the next two weeks. Took me 2 years to lose the last 2 stone but frankly I wasn't trying that hard. This time I've gained 5 lbs at 17 wks pg but after last time I am watching my weight much more carefully this time.

empen · 25/10/2007 13:24

Thanks for all your stories ladies. It goes to show how different everyone is. I am having a c section so am concerned that I am not going to be able to be very active very quickly but am planning to BF so am hoping this will help.

Caz 10 - if you are concerned about being underweight, discuss with your MW. She will be measuring your bump from about 6mths on, and therefore monitoring your baby's growth. She is the best person to reassure you.

Elb1 - Yep, you're right, if you were overweight pre-pregnancy, it is suggested on the webpage (link below) that you aim to gain less weight than the average during your pregnancy. I have a friend who was overweight before her first child, gained far less than me, and got her pregnancy weight plus about 1.5 extra stone off in the next year.

At the end of the day, once you are running around after a baby/toddler 24/7, you'll need to set yourself a reminder to eat enough!!

Canadiandream · 25/10/2007 15:29

I put on 3 stone with ds, after 16 months still have 1 stone left!

I am now 6 1/5 weeks pg again and pretty worried the same will happen again. I just have this urge to eat all the time which last time just went through the entire pregnancy. Ah well, there are much worse things to worry about than too much weight gain.

SunLover · 25/10/2007 16:57

I'm now 34 weeks and have put on 2 stone (13 kg)so far...

Eaglebird · 25/10/2007 17:43

I'm 3 days overdue, and have put on just over 2 stone with this pregnancy.

mum2bejan · 25/10/2007 20:37

I'm 27 weeks and have put on a stone and 5 lbs. Bit worried as I didn't have much of an appetite in the early months, and now I'm hungry all the time! Probably be of whale like proportions come the birth! Lol

spugs · 26/10/2007 17:48

2st12 with both my previous dd's, so far with this one about 3 lbs. (18 1/2 wks)

Caz10 · 26/10/2007 17:57

Thanks Anonymama! My MW said baby is a fine size so I guess that is the main thing, she has never measured my bump though, she just said that after having a feel around. Still I have 7 weeks to go (hopefully!), quite sure I can pile on a fair amount in that time! I know I eat plenty so not too worried on that count.

Where have people found the weight is coming from, ie is at all bump weight, or just general all over weight increase?

Caz10 · 26/10/2007 17:58

PS on that subject - do they literally measure your bump? with a tape measure?! from where to where? (off to find a tape measure...!)

Kitsilano · 26/10/2007 18:15

I was 10 st before pregnancy and at 34 weeks have put on 23lbs. With my dd I put on 2 stone and had lost that within 3 weeks of having her. (Though I wasn't quite the same shape as before!)
