Hi all, miscarried in May, but all the online stuff just makes me feel so negative about being 40 and fertility I've been ttc for nearly 4 months and I just need some positives thanks you

I’m 41 and pregnant! Obviously all bodies are different but it’s definitely possible. I’ll be 42 when it’s due.

KinderWild · 18/12/2020 21:10

Same as @Joeyandpacey. I am 41 and 21 weeks pregnant. Will be 42 by due date. I have one other child, 5 years old. I followed the vitamin regime in it starts with the egg to give myself a bit of a boost/improve my chances.

apric0t · 18/12/2020 21:12

My mum had me at 41 good luck!

Sef89 · 18/12/2020 21:34

Thanks. @kinderwild how long did it take you to conceive....

Hi OP, we conceived our second after 5 weeks of trying and I turned 40 at 6 weeks pregnant (i.e. about a month after conception!) I'm due in 3 weeks and all going fairly well so far (touch wood). Obvs me and DH already had one child so knew there were no underlying issues - if this is the first time TTC for you and your partner then it's worth asking him to get his tests done too - I have a couple of friends whose fertility struggles turned out to be due to issues on the male side. The earlier you know all the info, the better in terms of deciding on the path forward. Best of luck!

I'm 40 (almost 41) and have a lovely 3 week old daughter sleeping beside me. I had 2 miscarriages last year at 39, then it took 6 months to concieve her after the second miscarriage. Good luck!

Iwanttobefreetobeme · 18/12/2020 22:02

Between me and Dp there’s a lotta catholics in our family and as such, a wholllle lot of babies born to women in their 40s (now and in the past)!

Marilla1966 · 18/12/2020 22:04

Hi Op. I fell pregnant within 2 months at 39 years. With my second I fell pregnant the weekend we started trying and I had just turned 41. Most women I know who started trying later in life have had no problems. All have been quite surprised though as there is so much emphasis on diminished chances. I found OPK really helped be time specific. Wishing you all the best. X

passthemustard · 18/12/2020 22:08

I'm 43 and being induced on Sunday at 39 weeks!

I know everyone is different and I have no idea as to why some women conceive easily and others don't but I do know there are a lot of older women out there having babies. All you can do is keep trying.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 19/12/2020 01:30

6 weeks off my 45th birthday and currently feeding my 5 week old DD. Keep going! Xxx

GingerScallop · 19/12/2020 04:24

trying" with my second. Didn't even realise I was pregnant until almost the second trimester. With my first tried planning exactly, using a digital ovulation predictor and sticks, vitamins. Then stopped all of that and relaxed a little (still tried having sex the right times) and hey presto! There is hope. Hang in there. You got pregnant once and though it sadly ended in a miscarriage it hopeful you can get pregnant. Hopefully you get a sticky one soon

Woolly17 · 19/12/2020 04:47

Had my second at 42. He was a surprise, we hadn't thought we could conceive naturally but we'd gone ahead and tried all the same. Took about 9months of trying.

Hyperfish101 · 19/12/2020 04:55

3 kids at 40, 42 and 46! Don’t give up.

Glendaruel · 19/12/2020 05:03

I'm 41, two previous miscarriages but currently typing this with my 3 week old daughter lying on my chest.

Livingmagicallyagain · 19/12/2020 05:32

Fell pregnant first time trying, three times since age 38. Currently 41 and 23 weeks pregnant, will be nearly 42 when baby born! And definitely have more energy than when first dc was born at 32!

Check your thyroid, TSH should be no higher than 2.5. My thyroid levels rose when I got to 40.

Sef89 · 19/12/2020 07:28

Thanks all very positive, i do have a 3 year old, this loss has just made me feel negative as the stats on age are so negative too

I was 42 and 44 when I conceived my two.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 19/12/2020 09:17

@Sef89 I think that's the big downside of ttc in the 40s. I had had a mc in my 20s but then children in my 20s and 30s with no problem. I then had a mc at 39, baby at 40 & then 3 mc age 42 &43 before conceiving the baby I have now. In your 40s you have to be prepared for mc and have everything crossed that you don't have one.

welshladywhois40 · 19/12/2020 14:42

Hi, have conceived twice now since 40 but I did have some help. I miscarried just after I was 40 and saw a private gynae after. I mentioned I was worried about conceiving:

She stated the problem after 40 is you don't always release an egg each month so that's why it is harder. She prescribed ovulation pills that increased your hormones and thus helps.

So I used this twice and twice got pregnant. Miscarried again and currently nearly 35 weeks now

Joeyandpacey · 19/12/2020 17:27

@Sef89

Thanks. *@joeyandpacey* how long did it take you to conceive...
I followed same supplement regime as kinderwild and conceived first try.
Sef89 · 19/12/2020 18:06

Thanks @joeyandpacey what regime was that?

Hi! I'm 40 and 14+5 with my second baby (last one is 14!). I had a chemical pregnancy in August (conceived in July) and conceived in September. I'm overweight and had the same concerns as you about being too old but conceived very quickly - so don't despair! Hope you get the news you want soon.

Joeyandpacey · 19/12/2020 18:16

It’s from the ‘it starts with the egg’ book. Someone on here recommended it.

feistymumma · 20/12/2020 23:04

Hi, I'm 44 and ten weeks pregnant. Wasn't following any particular regimen, also have adenomyosis which makes conception difficult but conceived without trying. In a nutshell I thought the odds of getting pregnant were slim to nil so we weren't being careful at all the last 3-4 months. Very possible to conceive in your 40s
