Pregnant after miscarriage - due summer

Hi all,

I wanted to start a thread for those of us due June/July/August who have experienced one or more losses. I think for us our pregnancy experience is a bit different to those who have never had a loss, particularly when we get nervous about getting excited.

I’m 8+3 and due 26 July. I had an anembryonic pregnancy found at 9 weeks in May, which I had surgical management for. I then had a very early miscarriage at 4+5 in September. We’ve had a private scan at 7 weeks where we saw the heartbeat and our little prawn seemed fine, which was such a relief after the horror of the scans where I just had a big blank space in my anembryonic pregnancy. I have another scan booked for Saturday after which I think I’ll tell my parents and in laws as they’ll notice me not drinking at Christmas anyway!

Be great to hear your stories and support each other at this time!

I actually had one this morning to rule out ectopic after some severe stomach pains. Everything is looking good. Measuring just under 6 weeks and I had myself at 5+4. HCG is great and they mentioned it looks like it's buried in there really well.

Having the scan eased my anxiety for like an hour and now i'm just waiting for the next one.. haha

I have a follow up on the 11th of Jan and she mentioned we will hopefully be able to hear a little heartbeat.

That’s good news @MumToBeMaz! I am feeling exhausted, which isn’t too bad whilst off work but I’m not looking forward to coping with it when back at work next week! I have a scan on 12 Jan when I’ll be around 8 weeks, I don’t have a booking appointment yet but the bereavement midwife booked the scan for me so I don’t know whether they will just do the booking in then all being well.

Christmas was ok, but this year was always going to be hard after losing our baby so late on this year as just felt like someone was missing, it has been the same on all occasions since really. This baby will never replace him but hopefully will give us something positive to focus on if all works out. We have told both our parents but no one else, how about you?

MumToBeMaz · 31/12/2020 12:11

Yeah, i'm really appreciating my job at the moment. We both work for the same company and can both work from home with super flexible hours. It really is taking a lot of pressure off. Do you have quite an active job? Are you able to sit if you need to?

I'm hoping that they will explain on the 11th what is going to happen going forward. I've not been assigned a midwife yet.

I know what you mean about feeling like something is missing. We had our miscarriage back in October and I don't think I've had a day where I've not cried. My partners SIL also found out she was expecting a week after us in our last pregnancy and she is still going strong. Hearing about her experiences and seeing her scans/social media posts makes It feel more painful somehow because I think I should be that far along. If that makes sense?

We have only told our parents too. Think we are being more cautious this time.

notalwaysalondoner · 31/12/2020 12:34

That makes it so difficult with your SIL @MumToBeMaz. I’d find that so tough. Glad your scan went well and fears about ectopic are over!

I actually passed my original due date on 28th December without even remembering it - I think if I wasn’t pregnant again I would have been miserable but feeling hopeful about this pregnancy helped me forget somewhat. Plus we had lots of upheaval that day to do with moving from my in laws back to my parents before our house move and then getting stuck in snow, then having our house access cancelled by the vendor... I’m amazed I didn’t remember but I think being Christmas it’s easy to lose track of the days. I also think having an anembryonic pregnancy made it easier for me to process in a way as there wasn’t anything there on the scan, no embryo without a heartbeat, just a big space where it should have been.

My booking appointment is on 8th and my nhs scan on 20th - can’t wait, I’m tempted to have another private one before then, but think I should try and wait as it won’t change anything.

I’ve only told my mum (my dad can’t keep a secret) and my in laws (as they would have noticed I wasn’t drinking at Christmas). My mum is keen I tell dad and siblings as we’re all living together until the move but I’m keen to wait for the scan, although they might notice I’m not drinking before then - dry January will be a useful ruse!

It's good to have something like that to distract you @notalwaysalondoner.

We have recently reserved a newbuild and have a lot of paperwork and stuff being done just now. So it's keeping us focused on something else besides pregnancy. We will be due to move in at the end of June and my original due date will have been the start of June. So hoping I will be too distracted as well.

Is anybody thinking of names or tempted to buy anything yet? I'm having to pull myself back sometimes.

notalwaysalondoner · 03/01/2021 17:02

I’m definitely not buying anything until after the 12 week scan, probably until after the 20 week one to be honest. I just think it will be too painful to get rid of it if something goes wrong. I have occasionally browsed prams and maternity clothes online though! There is a good jojo sale on of summer maternity clothes so I’ll probably kick myself later when I have to buy full price ones!

I have a list of names on my phone from last time I was pregnant. I add to it if I hear one I like. I have some front runners for girls, less sure on boys. Will you be finding out the gender @MumToBeMaz?

PurplePansy05 · 03/01/2021 17:12

Hi, is it OK to join, please?

I'm 34, no living DCs yet. Had 3 MCs (2 MMCs, 11 & 13 weeks and one early MC). One of my MMCs was blighted ovum. Had medical management, natural loss and MVA, so been through the mill with pregnancy and loss in the last 21 months.

I'm pregnant again, 8+1 today and due 16 August. I'm under the Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic and had my first scan at 6+2 with a beautiful heartbeat, for the first time. That was beautiful.

Very cautious still, my next scan at the RMC is on 11 Jan.

Wishing everyone best of luck and hope you're feeling well xx

Fairywings123 · 03/01/2021 17:23

Hey ladies just found out today I'm having a boy 💙, due June 16th,am I mad tho for still worrying everyday thinking somethings going to go wrong after having a mc last time, or is this normal? 😔

notalwaysalondoner · 04/01/2021 11:52

@PurplePansy05 welcome! That sounds tough. I’m so scared for my 12 week scan (will actually be 13.5 weeks for me) that they’ll find a mmc - the first time I had a private scan at 9 weeks where they found one. This time I’ve had two private scans at 7 and 9 weeks that were both fine, so hoping thats a good sign but I’m still nervous. Not sure DH and I could cope dealing with it again.

@Fairywings123 I think it’s very normal! I keep bouncing between feeling pretty positive and feeling convinced I’ve already had another missed miscarriage and something has gone wrong. Makes me very jealous of women who actually get to enjoy their pregnancies without worrying about miscarriage the whole time...

MoopN86 · 05/01/2021 15:11

Hi all,

Can I also please join? 😊
I’m currently 6weeks pregnant today and had a missed miscarriage in September with twins.
I was going to have a scan Friday but have cancelled as I’m so scared of seeing a baby with no heartbeat again.
I’ve moved it back two weeks and will hopefully build up my courage for then.
Symptoms are on and off, some nausea, sore boobs, tired etc...but they all come and go. No one knows yes as DH and I are too scared to tell anyone incase anything happens.
Xx

notalwaysalondoner · 07/01/2021 12:22

Hi @MoopN86! That sounds tough, how many weeks were you with the twins? I’m currently 11 weeks pregnant and am so scared for my nhs scan in two weeks that it will be another missed miscarriage. I had private ones at 7 and 9 weeks but still very nervous. Hopefully you work up the courage for your scan - make sure it’s internal, I went somewhere that only did external scans for the 9 week one and it was crap compared to the internal one I had at 7 weeks!

MumToBeMaz · 07/01/2021 17:17

@notalwaysalondoner We are gonna leave the gender a surprise. I think it will help me stay motivated when I'm in labour also I don't want people to start buying blue or pink things for me... hahaha.

@MoopN86 So sorry to hear about your story. That certainly sounds tough. I hope you feel a little better in a couple of weeks time.

How is everybody feeling? I've been getting really sore back pain. Been so nervous about miscarriage but I've had no bleeding at all. Got my follow up appointment on Monday so hoping we get to see a heartbeat and that baby is still growing in there.

Rubywalt · 07/01/2021 19:10

Hi, I’m really sorry for your losses, I previously had a miscarriage 5 nearly 6 weeks ago now and still having a positive pregnancy test I went to the doctors two weeks ago and urine sample confirmed negative and I haven’t got my period yet and positive is faint but there, i went for a blood test and just waiting on results any advise would be helpful.

MumToBeMaz · 08/01/2021 09:16

Hey, @Rubywalt i'm sorry to hear about your recent loss too. It's not an easy thing to go through.

I don't really have much advice, but I didn't get a negative test until about 3 weeks after I stopped bleeding. They brought me in for a scan and could still see some tissue left over which was still giving me the positive result. Have they done a scan to make sure the miscarriage has completed?

Rubywalt · 08/01/2021 10:04

No I haven’t had a scan I did go to the doctors about W two weeks ago and had a urine sample and it confirmed negative I did a test today and couldn’t really see a line anymore either :(

notalwaysalondoner · 08/01/2021 13:56

I only got a negative exactly 3 weeks after my miscarriage - I was 10 weeks. I think the further along you are the more likely it is to take a while too.

I don't think I'll find out the gender @MumToBeMaz - I always said I wouldn't although now I'm actually pregnant I'm tempted...

I had my booking appointment this morning - had to be on video. I really really REALLY hope the NCT groups are back meeting in person in late May when I'll be attending, I'm just moving to a new area and am kind of relying on meeting new people that way.

I'm feeling fine, definitely less tired the last week or so compared to weeks 8-10 where I was exhausted. My nausea was only mild and stopped around the start of week 9. I'm getting a tiny bump though - I'm very slim so think it shows sooner. Can't wait for my scan, just hope everything is OK!

northerngal20 · 08/01/2021 16:05

hi, can i join too? i sadly had a loss in august, i'm 16 weeks at the moment and suddenly really anxious. sorry in advance for the rant! i feel fine, my bump is starting to get pretty round now but my belly just feels kind of 'full' and heavy, which i guess is normal since the baby's growing, but as i've never experienced this feeling before i'm so worried every time i go to the loo there might be some blood! i'm not sure why i'm feeling this way - we went for a scan at the weekend and everything looked good, and i know statistically the chances are good now, but i only felt reassured for about one day! do you think it will ever get any easier? i can't wait until i start feeling some kicks - i'm hoping that will help a bit.

MumToBeMaz · 08/01/2021 16:26

@Rubywalt At least you know things have progressed and that you're not in any danger of infection or anything. It is hard though, I remember when I got my negative test after it all, I felt so empty inside. Like there was a big hole in my stomach. Then I got upset again when I had my next period. It really is a tough journey.

@notalwaysalondoner haha it is very tempting, especially with all the cute clothes/swaddles/blankets out there. I think I would appreciate the surprise more on the day though.

I hope the same! Would be nice to meet some other people going through the same thing in my area. Although with covid, you just never know where things like that will be allowed again and if people will even feel safe going!

I threw up for the first time today and then had a 3 hour nap at 1pm.. haha I'm nearly 7 weeks now. I'm taking it all as a good sign though as I never felt like this with my last pregnancy.

@northerngal20 Welcome to the group, congrats on your pregnancy and I'm sorry about your previous loss in Aug. I'm not as far along as you so I can't really comment on how your bump feels. I can say that I'm doing the same every time I go to the loo, I'm always checking for blood. I cant imagine feeling completely relaxed until I hit the 3rd trimester. Only because if something goes wrong they can deliver the baby at that stage. What week do you normally start feeling kicks?

AprilM23 · 09/01/2021 07:34

Hi everyone can I join?
I'm currently 12 weeks pregnant with my scan on Wednesday (the 13th). I'm terrified the closer I get if im honest.
I had 2 miscarriages, 1 in November 2019 at 6 weeks and 1 in July 2020 at 12 weeks which happened 3 days before my scan Sad however the scan i had after that miscarriage actually showed i had a very large ovarian dermoid cyst, and a few smaller cysts. Because of the size I had to have the dermoid and all other cysts removed in September. So I'm hoping this is third time lucky and without the cysts we can finally get past the first trimester and have a healthy pregnancy Smile
But the nerves are definitely starting now the scan is in a couple of days especially after losing one at this point last time. Definitely feel like my symptoms have been 100% worse this time round so that makes me hopeful in a weird way
Hope everyone finally gets their rainbow babies x

notalwaysalondoner · 10/01/2021 18:17

@AprilM23 welcome! Mine is on 20th and I’m getting more nervous the closer I get! Moved house this weekend and work is already so busy so am very tired! Happy we’ve got 6-7 months to sort the house out before baby arrives though, hopefully if everything goes well!

Hey, got my follow up scan today and saw the heartbeat! I know we are not out the woods yet, but we didn't get a heartbeat with the last pregnancy so we are celebrating a bit today!

Still not out the woods yet, but I'm so relieved that the pregnancy is progressing. The Midwife even said "Textbook Scan"!!

PurplePansy05 · 11/01/2021 17:16

Congratulations @MumToBeMaz Flowers

I too had my second scan at the Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic and my little baby Purple is looking healthy and with strong heartbeat at 9+2 🌈💜 Big relief. Now onto my Panorama test & 12 weeks 🤞

Pregnant after miscarriage - due summer
AprilM23 · 11/01/2021 18:48

@notalwaysalondoner omg moving house when pregnant i don't envy you. I can barely do anything the tiredness is that bad. The midwife is now checking for anaemia so its been hard but yeah the stress is getting worse the closer the scan gets. Only 2 more sleeps to go thats all I'm thinking right now like Christmas haha
@MumToBeMaz and @PurplePansy05 congratulations on your scans, it must be a relief just to see something and hear a heartbeat. Seeing your scans gives me a bit of excitement and hope for my 12 week one this week x

PurplePansy05 · 11/01/2021 18:52

Thank you @AprilM23 and good luck 🍀

@notalwaysalondoner I'm moving home within the next few weeks too, and it's a major renovation project. The pregnancy wasn't exactly planned to happen so quickly but of course no complaints. I think I thought for a while it won't progress, but now I'm slowly accepting that my chances are very good. I guess DH will have to pack us up with the help of a removals company and then I'll turn into a project manager, ordering lots online and supervising 🤣 I'm alright with that! I'd rather keep my thoughts busy and diverted from the pregnancy for as long as possible.

notinthestarsigns · 11/01/2021 22:36

Great news on your scans @MumToBeMaz and @PurplePansy05! I have my first scan at EPU tomorrow morning.
