When I've a minute I will try and tag everyone across the three threads.

Also and I'm probably overthinking this...I have a friend due early feb, is it insensitive to announce shortly after (12 week scan on 19th?) or even if I announce after private scan tomorrow?

When I say announce I mean just to my friends not on social media

@Alittlexmasmagic @Thisisbananas3 thanks both!

JuFrance · 18/01/2021 20:40

Hey everyone!
Would it be ok for me to join? Due date looks like 31 August as I’m about 7 weeks pregnant. I had an ectopic back in July and with covid I’m feeling so anxious this time around (already have a little boy who’s nearly 4). Is there a FB group? X

BananaHammock23 · 18/01/2021 21:36

@Champson I'm exactly the same! We had IVF and I didn't stop talking about it for the whole year we were doing it, so loads of people knew we were due to find out. We've probs told about 20 people too, most of our family and close friends :)

haidri · 18/01/2021 21:53

Hi guys, I'm a bit stuck.

So two weeks ago I was supposed to be 9 weeks & therefore had a private early reassurance scan (as I previously had a miscarriage 3months ago when I got to 12 weeks) and at the scan they dated me 6 weeks.

I had a NHS scan today due to me seeing browny discharge and they've dated me 6 weeks when I should be 11.

Am I having a missed miscarriage because they can see the sac but no embryo?

I'm confused!

VWLolabunny9119 · 18/01/2021 22:05

@haidri I'm no expert at all but that doesn't sound right. No wonder your concerned. Did they see a heartbeat on the scan?

haidri · 18/01/2021 22:08

@VWLolabunny9119 they couldn't see an embryo. So it was empty no heartbeat...

VWLolabunny9119 · 18/01/2021 22:08

I had my 12 week scan today. Was incredible to see how much the babies developed since my 7 week scan. Unfortunately DH couldn't come in but I'm just pleased everything went well.

@haidri I think you need more answers from them. If you know your last period was roughly 11 weeks ago they should be able to give you an explanation as to what might be going on. Did they try a vaginal ultrasound as well? Can you ask to be scanned again? Iv got my fingers crossed for you. I'm not an expert so someone else on here may be more helpful in suggesting what could be going on. X

haidri · 18/01/2021 22:25

@VWLolabunny9119 thank you for your well wishes! They said for me to come in two weeks for a NHS scan as they won't consider my private scan. However she has said that since you're 6 weeks both now & in your private scan two weeks ago, there's no growth. But I don't understand because I've got pregnancy symptoms and I'm only 24!!!!

PurplePansy05 · 18/01/2021 22:29

@haidri So you had a MC 12 weeks ago and you think you should be 11 weeks now? I am not sure if this is right, how did you work out your dates? Do you know when you ovulated?

At 6 weeks there shouldn't be an empty sac, a baby (although not yet looking like a baby), yolk sac and often heartbeat is detectable at this stage. So if you have an empty sac it might be a blighted ovum MMC or you are even earlier than 6 weeks. Did they say the sac is measuring 6 weeks but there's no embryo in it? Have you been told to come back for a follow up scan? You should have been referred to the EPU at the point of your private scan in the first place. In any event, you will need a follow up scan at the EPU probably in a week or two.

PurplePansy05 · 18/01/2021 22:31

Also re symptoms I'm afraid that's how an MMC works, you can have symptoms right until the end but the pregnancy doesn't progress. They really should have talked you through at the EPU about the potential diagnoses, I'm sorry they've left you in a limbo Flowers

haidri · 18/01/2021 22:33

@PurplePansy05 I had a miscarriage on 30th September 2020 where I was exactly 12 weeks. November 4th I had my period & then tried again. So dating from this last period of mine, I'm supposed to be 11 weeks today but the scan said 6 weeks with no embryo seen.

They've called me in 2weeks to rescan me & see if there's miraculous growth but since I'm having light brown discharge once in a while, I'm wondering if I'm having a missed miscarriage?

PurplePansy05 · 18/01/2021 22:41

@haidri I see, sorry, I couldn't get my head around the dates. OK, so based on your LMP you should be 10+5. I don't always trust private scans and I had the same situation as you with my first MMC, NHS would not consider a private scan. It is a normal process to be rescanned in a fortnight to make sure the pregnancy isn't progressing. But from what you're saying it does sound like an MMC, I'm afraid. Your age is irrelevant, a MC or an MMC can happen to anyone. Spotting may or may not be linked to it though, it's not necessarily a sign of an impending miscarriage, it might just be hormonal. It's very hard, I know from being in your position not that long ago, but there's no other option than to wait for a follow up scan. Flowers

MrsB2019x · 18/01/2021 22:47

@haidri I’m so sorry you’re left stuck in this limbo Flowers 2 weeks seems an awfully long time to leave you hanging

MrsB2019x · 18/01/2021 22:47

@VWLolabunny9119 Your scan is so clear!! Beautiful 😍

PurplePansy05 · 18/01/2021 22:53

If this is any consolation in this difficult situation @haidri, 2 weeks means that if turns out to be a good outcome then it's enough time for it to be clear and if it's a bad outcome, there's a chance things may start naturally. It doesn't make this wait any easier though. I was very upset and angry when I had to go through it before and only time has helped me to gain some perspective and better understanding of why things are done this way. Take a very good care of yourself now xxx

haidri · 18/01/2021 22:55

@PurplePansy05 I'm just frustrated that after having a miscarriage they kind of gave me certainty that this is just a ONE OFF. Thank you for the love & care. I'm praying for the best for you & everyone on this threaaaad

PurplePansy05 · 18/01/2021 23:05

No one can give you such certainty though, I wish it never happened again, I wish it never happened to anyone in the first place, but I had 3 in a row and I'm a healthy woman, tested, under 35. I suggest you read up on Tommy’s website about MC @haidri, it sounds like your healthcare professionals may not be giving you the most comprehensive guidance Flowers

biscuitcat · 18/01/2021 23:14

Oh @haidri sorry to hear the news isn't as you hoped, hopefully there'll be a little more clarity at your rescan. How frustrating that they won't account for your private scan. I'm not an expert in this so I can't offer any advice but my thoughts are with you and hopefully there's someone you can talk with in real life too?

haidri · 18/01/2021 23:15

@biscuitcat just pray for a painless birth for me because my 12 week miscarriage was hellll

BertieBotts · 19/01/2021 00:24

A six week one isn't bad. I was aware I was passing mine but it wasn't painful at all, just like a bad period. Sorry to hear your news.

@JuFrance I think your post got lost in all the activity but welcome to the thread :)

PurplePansy05 · 19/01/2021 09:16

I think n one can really say how things will go for another person, every MC is different and it isn't necessarily gestation that determines it. I hope it's as gentle as it can be on you @haidri.

Also the NHS is highly unlikely to ever rely on private scans for liability reasons. They have no way of knowing if they were properly conducted, how well trained the sonographer was and they cannot take responsibility for this. The NICE guidelines are very specific on when follow up scans are required and clearly NHS needs to rely on their own staff and take responsibility only for their actions. An error in this could have horrendous consequences so they'd rather avoid that and rightly so. That's why I said you should have been immediately referred to the EPU after your first scan, a 3 week discrepancy isn't common and no heartbeat at 6 weeks isn't either and you should have been scanned by the NHS then. Some private scan places are absolute cowboys, this shouldn't be allowed to happen.

haidri · 19/01/2021 09:19

@PurplePansy05 is it possible for private scans to simply be wrong in their dating?
