I've pretty much been having this since my bfp.

I'm nearly 14 weeks now and I haven't been for 8 days. 😬😬😬
I started lactulose yesterday.
Have been downing water. A glass of orange juice a day.
Today I have eaten a lot of prunes and a whole tin of baked beans on wholemeal toast to try and get some movement and still nothing.
I'm getting worried now as it's been over a week that I'm going to end up impacted.

I'm avoiding bananas and eggs . Drinking 2-2.5 liters of water a day and one strong coffee and orange juice

Fybogel -gentle enough to use every day & safe in pregnancy.

If in discomfort, it's totally a valid thing to seek medical attention for. Gp?

endofthelinefinally · 08/12/2020 18:18

Prunes
Vegetable soup containing lots of pulses and carrots.
Stewed fruit
Movicol every day
Glycerin suppositories if nothing happens.
Avoid high fibre stuff like allbran. It sets like concrete in your bowel.

ScottishStardust · 08/12/2020 18:51

My usual go to's are an apple or lots of polos 🤣 mints are a known laxative

MsFrog · 08/12/2020 19:43

Glycerine suppositories, or a double dose of lactulose usually works for me. Good luck, it's bloody awful xx

physicskate · 08/12/2020 19:47

Oh weren't there those gummy sweets from Aldi or something that sets people off?? Must research it!

physicskate · 08/12/2020 19:49

Yup their sugar free fruit sweets!! Trim, but sometimes when there's a real need.

I find dried apricots help me...

toptreeroots1 · 08/12/2020 19:58

Thanks :)
I managed the most tiniest hard stool this evening but I clearly have a lot more up there 😕.
I'm very sore to. I think I may have piles

I'm on lactulose. 24 hours in. Have been eating prunes and baked beans and wholemeal bread and veg and avoiding bananas .
I've had 7 pints of water today to .
I'm extremely bloated and windy to

Oh it's going to hurt when it happens isn't it:/

I've had 45ml lactulose yesterday and today

I just feel panicky that I won't be able to soften what is at the exit 😁

ScottishStardust · 08/12/2020 20:25

Haha @physicskate funny you mention that - yesterday I had 5/6 of their cola/lemon sherbets ... was an interesting evening! But pin points where it stemmed from!!

MsFrog · 08/12/2020 20:32

Glycerin suppositories will do that, if there's a lot of hard stuff waiting at the 'exit' 😬
endofthelinefinally · 08/12/2020 20:34

Just get the glycerin suppositories OP. Send someone else to get them. Dont say they are for you or that you are pregnant.
Follow the instructions, they are perfectly safe.

Meomeomeo · 08/12/2020 20:37

Can you try having some prune juice. Start with once glass and see how you do after a few hours. You can then have another glass. Next day do 1-2 glasses but do space them out and have lots of water in between. I think that should clear you pretty quickly. Afterwards just have a glass daily

ExeterMummaMia · 08/12/2020 21:11

Careful not to add too much fibre as it will add bulk higher up and right now you need to move the hard bit first.

Honestly, I'd go to pharmacy and ask for Movicol or Laxido (it's macrogol but those are the brand names they stock). You can take several sachets to ease impaction- which is when the stool is v hard at the start - and it will soften it all up and make passing it far more comfortable.

I take it now and again and Gp and midwife have both okayed it.

toptreeroots1 · 09/12/2020 09:16

I've a prescription for movicol waiting at the GP. They said supporsties are not recommend at this stage of pregnancy apparently.

I'm on 4 sachet's today.
The prubes I had yesterday haven't produced anything.
Terrified as I'm pretty sure I have piles to 😭.
I desperately need to go but can't shift anything.
Day 9 😬

Prunes

IMO suppositories (glycerin only) are a lot better than straining to pass a big, rock hard stool. The suppositories soften and break up the rocks.
Was the doctor male by any chance?

Could you try Sunsweet Prune Juice. I was in similar situation a few days ago and very reluctant to take any meds. Honestly, the first day I tried prune juice it did shift a tiny bit (I was cautious only had half a glass). The next day I had 2 glasses through out the day and it did the trick. Very gentle on the body but worked same day.
Luckyelephant1 · 09/12/2020 10:20

OP sorry if TMI but can you feel everything sitting there in your colon ready to come out but its just blocked? If so, drink tons and tons of warm water and a hot strong coffee/tea (within your caffeine limits obviously) and go for a brisk walk. It generally tends to 'loosen' things.

I often get constipated (pregnant or not) and all these bulk forming laxatives are fine to actually create the stools but not expel them! When not pregnant a senna based laxative like Dulcolax sorts me right out but these aren't recommended in pregnancy unfortunately.

toptreeroots1 · 09/12/2020 10:52

He was male yes .
Ive looked online and it looks like it's probably ok but I feel uncomfortable taking against GP advice tbh
I've passed a bit more . Blood as well though now as I think I've piles or a cut. It has helped a bit though. Feel less uncomfortable and crampy so hopefully the backlog will be easier 🤣
Incredibly windy
Have had the movicol now

toptreeroots1 · 09/12/2020 10:53

I had a whole tin of prunes yesterday

OP posts:
Meomeomeo · 09/12/2020 11:29

You need to have more prunes - though having the actual prunes are also adding more fibres which like other said isn’t ideal. You don’t want to create more stools. The juice doesn’t have much fibre but it contains surbitol which helps with constipation by drawing water to help soften to stool. The first day of prune juice for me only moved a tiny bit but the second day helped tremendously

toptreeroots1 · 09/12/2020 12:01

I think I have passed the initial blockage now so hopefully all the stuff behind is a lot softer
I have swapped terrible morning sickness with my first for this with the second

OP posts:
ExeterMummaMia · 09/12/2020 14:29

Glad to hear its easing. Now the worst is passed the movicol can really help as it'll soften the rest. I now take 1/2 a sachet a day to keep things soft and moving as pregnancy makes me more prone to constipation.
