Anyone else insulted by this label?

My mum came round this weekend and brought along a bottle of her favourite tipple, and I was someone gobsmacked to see this on the label!

Now I'm not a big drinker, and have had maybe 2 half-glasses of wine in the whole 4 months that I've been pregnant. But my goodness, that offensive and condescending label just makes me want to down a whole bottle!!

Do they think we're all completely hormone-addled, brain dead and completely incapable of thinking for ourselves? "No pregnant women" signs on wine bottles!?! What next!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!

In answer to your final question - yes. They do.

In an aside, when I clicked on your link the first time, it asked me to log in, and then I saw Tech's profile page! How odd is that!

littleNonSpecificHolidaylapin · 21/10/2007 16:59

It worked once I had logged in and then tried again

Sorry, don't have any webspace left so I had to put the picture in my profile page. I scanned my mum's wine bottle!!

Sounds like my profile page is being silly, cos I do have one but MN is telling me I don't. Maybe cos I changed my user name. Anyway, just created a quick one so you can see the picture.

yes, it would have made me want to fill a couple of those nice BIG glasses, too!

I hated anyone being bossy, and helpfully counting my half glass of wine with Christmas dinner, and my half glass of champagne on Christmas Eve, and the 'are you sure? You've already had half a campari...

I presume that logo was out on in Austrailia?

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 21/10/2007 17:33

Why on earth is that insulting??

Hayleyandbaby · 21/10/2007 17:33

I reckon someone drunk the contents before drawing the label

RustyBear · 21/10/2007 17:35

You can move your original profile page to this name if you want - click on Set up profile page & then on Profile mover page.

Dragon - well, I think a picture of a pregnant woman with a big cross-out through her is a bit insulting to pregnant women! They could have a nicely worded warning along the lines of "drinking alcohol is not recommended in pregnancy" rather than a sign which, if you think how road signs work, means "no pregnant women"!!! Instead of a friendly bit of advice, it's bossy, dismissive and downright rude! "YOU MAY NOT!" instead of "perhaps you shouldn't".

You're mad . Is the number 18 crossed out insulting to under 18s? Is the little picture of a baby with 0-3 underneath it crossed out insulting to under threes? Noooooo.

A symbol is instantly recognisable in any language.

derahCula · 21/10/2007 17:50

Dragon - of course I'm mad, I'm pregnant and hormonal and not allowed to drink!!!!

Signs for no under 18's or not 0-3's are things that are law (as far as I know). I thought we adults (even pregnant ones) get to make our own choices.

it took me to tech's profile too

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 21/10/2007 17:51

0-3s isn't alegal/illegal thing per se. It's a recommendation based on whether they are choking hazards. An item needs to have the label if it is considered a hazard to under 3s yet it is not illegal to give it to an under 3.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 21/10/2007 17:52

And technically, it's actually a picture of a pregnant woman drinking, crossed out. Which means Do Not Drink In Pregnancy. Which is the recommendation.

ledodgy · 21/10/2007 17:52

Yes i'm pissed off but only because i'm pregnant and do NOT have a figure like that bitch that is crossed out!

ledodgy · 21/10/2007 17:56

You're bloody lucky that it's dp that has piles

Hulababy · 21/10/2007 17:58

I thought that according to the latest reports it had now been decided that pregnant woman can now drink, after the first 3 months.

derahCula · 21/10/2007 18:12

Who's tech and why is her profile linked to mine?

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 21/10/2007 18:14

Who's Tech?? who's Tech???

You'll find yourself banned. He is the Mumsnet God who solves all our problems from the comfort of his shed.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 21/10/2007 18:15

And he feeds the hamsters that run round in little wheels powering the servers.

jessem · 21/10/2007 18:17

why do they always insist on positioning a pregnant lady leaning back with her hand on her hip/back?
"ooooh I can't tip my head back to guzzle this wine without using said position or I may fall over !!!!!"
