I had a scan today, showing a gestational sac and yolk sac but no fetal pole. Things measured at 5 weeks but I think I am around 7.5, maybe slightly less.

They wouldn't confirm anything but said they would rescan me in 10 days. Although they haven't said it's over I'm sure it must be so I'm gutted. Anyone else been here?

@babysnowman
Forget what week you personally think you're at, did the scan put you at 5 weeks due to measurements? X

babysnowman · 23/11/2020 19:36

Hi @cat709, yes they said 5 weeks based on measurements

@babysnowman
Only go by the scan's measurements, because there is so much that could have affected your own figures.
At 5 weeks and 5 days I had no heartbeat. I got the heartbeat at 6 weeks 4 days. Most scans won't show a heartbeat at 5 weeks.
So it sounds normal to me at this stage :)

babysnowman · 23/11/2020 19:43

@cat709 I know dates can be out but I didn't think they could be as much as 2.5 weeks out?

I wouldn't worry yet - it's so hit and miss at this stage. I'm sorry you have to do the rescan waiting game.

cat709 · 23/11/2020 19:46

@babysnowman
I was two whole weeks out!!
Which is crazy, because I could swear the day I ovulated.
And by the time I got to 12 weeks (where the date is set in stone) I'd moved back another 5 days x

babysnowman · 23/11/2020 19:48

Oh wow, this is giving me a tiny bit of hope x

@babysnowman
It's such a long way to your next scan for your own sanity, but stay strong. Keep me posted when you get results! X

AnxiousAnnie86 · 23/11/2020 19:51

@babysnowman NHS Are currently dating me at 10 + 4 based on lmp, but I know when I ovulated and I am 8 today, had I not known this when I go for my dating scan they would put me back by 2.4! I have everything crossed for you and I hope all is well xxxxx

babysnowman · 23/11/2020 20:01

Thank you all, I'll update next Thursday x

Also from experience would depend on when you tested positive if it was 3+ weeks ago dates wouldn't really work I'm sorry to say but if within the last 2 weeks then yes you might only be 5 weeks

babysnowman · 23/11/2020 20:53

I got a positive test on 29/10 with one of the early clearblue ones. So maybe it is too far out 😔

RainbowRED81 · 23/11/2020 21:24

This happened to me last year before my 9th miscarriage. I knew my dates as we were tracking, using ovulation sticks etc. I went for a scan at 6 weeks and they could barely see anything at all and said maybe I got my dates wrong. Then I went for a scan at 8 weeks and was told the sac was there but empty. Again, they said I should wait and see but my bloods were checked every 48hrs and the hcg was not doubling, it was rushing slowly but not doubling like it should. That’s when I knew it was another loss. I don’t want you to give up hope but is there any way you can ask for your bloods to be done for reassurance? If your hcg levels are good, you might just have implanted later.

babysnowman · 23/11/2020 21:38

They didn't mention bloods, I'm not sure if that's something they do around here. I'm not entirely sure of my dates...I normally spot for quite a few days before I get my flow and when I have tracked ovulation in the past it has been around day 19. I suppose with these things and the possibility of implanting later it could work out, but the chances seem very slim.

I also got a 3+ weeks on a clearblue test 2 weeks ago which suggests I'm at least 7 weeks. Although I've found stories online of these being inaccurate and possibly just down to high hormone levels.

If you request them they should do them, especially with confusing results from your scan. I'm surprised they didn't do them automatically! Was the scan at the Early Pregnancy Unit or private? All of my scans and bloods have been done at the EPU.

Bananas52 · 23/11/2020 22:39

I had a private scan when I thought I was 7 weeks 3 days along. They could see gestational sac and yolk sac but no heartbeat, I was devastated. I had a EPU scan 1 week later and there was a heartbeat and I was measuring 6 weeks exactly. Now I’m 15 weeks and my dates have moved and I’m closer to where I thought I was originally. I think they just go through little spurts of growth. Try not to worry too much (I know it’s hard!)

babysnowman · 24/11/2020 06:15

@Bananas52 Oh that is so similar to my situation, thank you. Glad things are working out well for you.

Starryskiesinthesky · 24/11/2020 06:22

Sadly I have been in this situation twice and it has been miscarriages but there are lots of people who have good outcomes and it really is a case of waiting to see. Since you are not sure of your dates that sounds more hopeful and the positive test 3 weeks ago could mean you are only 5-6 weeks now.

PurBal · 24/11/2020 06:54

I had this. I was measuring almost a week behind and no heartbeat. I've got my rescan tomorrow. Take it easy. Thinking of you.

babysnowman · 24/11/2020 08:27

@PurBal I hope it goes well for you, please let us know how you get on x

nicciw87 · 24/11/2020 08:53

Sorry another quick question was it private or hospital scan and internal or external

babysnowman · 24/11/2020 08:57

It was a hospital internal scan

Sorry to keep posting here, but I can't stop crying today. This would be my third miscarriage (had two before DD) was born. I'm too scared to have even a bit of hope but can't face the thought of what might be to come 😞
