I'm very impatient here (am flat flat flat... when not bloated ) and wondered how far along people were when they started to show with their first (have heard that subsequent babies show much quicker because of less than fabulous stomach muscles ). Thank you!

I am interested in this as well. my friend said it was not until after 20 weeks - which I am disappointed in as i was hoping I would have some kind of bump by Christmas and not just look fat.

Jojay · 18/10/2007 09:00

About 16 weeks I think

LaylaandSethsmum · 18/10/2007 09:01

Not till about 24 wks .

Har · 18/10/2007 09:03

16 or 20 weeks?!
Walkingwomb - I agree about the fat thing, I don't want to just have a thick waist/ be unable to do my jeans up - want a nice little bump!

Hi Har

I remember when I went for my 20 week scan with my 1st I was definitely in maternity trousers so I was showing much earlier than 20 weeks.

Har · 18/10/2007 09:17

Hi Deb! Thanks for that, silly to be so impatient but a bump would just confirm it all! Can imagine wanting to have nice stretchy maternity trousers quite soon, as you know I'm very early still but what with all the odd pains and stretching I'm just not very happy in tight jeans at the moment.

well i started to show at a very early stage. i had a bump when i went for my 13 week scan. got a huge bump now as am 41 weeks and 2 days. i couldnt wait to start showing now i cant wait to get back in my jeans lol

MrsMcSpooky · 18/10/2007 10:31

Was about 16 weeks for me

Amberooni · 18/10/2007 10:42

bout 23 weeks, really disappointed cos I looked chunky until about 5 months (my stomach muscles are rubbish) plus my mum continued to tell me that she was showing from 8 weeks so really wanted a bump so people didn't think I was eating too many pies (which i was of course)

about 20 weeks

flowerybeanbag · 18/10/2007 10:47

Actually that's a lie. I had a visible bump then but only if I was wearing a tight top and someone was looking hard.

I didn't show properly so's you'd notice til about 6 months

Har · 18/10/2007 10:58

Wow, really thought it would be much earlier, about 12 wks or something. So I've just got looking fat to look forward to over the next few months then!

about 16-17 weeks for me i think? Trousers started to get uncomfortable before that though xx

Minicooper · 18/10/2007 12:14

Much earlier for me, Har; a woman at work told me to hold my stomach in at 8 weeks or everyone would guess! I was into maternity trousers at 13 weeks. Maybe my stomach muscles were just non existent, but I'm now 34 weeks and still quite neat.

e14mum · 18/10/2007 12:15

16 weeks so I noticed, 19 before it popped out! Was still putting on my jeans at 17 weeks, but felt like it was all hanging over the top iyswim?

walkingwomb · 18/10/2007 12:20

I think the increased boobage is making me look quite fat - straining shirt buttons and all that. Scan in two weeks and then can't wait to let people know that it is not the pies!

I remember leaving work at 34 weeks and someone who worked upstairs asked what job I was going too! So obviously wasn't showing very much (or he just thought I was packing on the pounds ) 2nd baby I was showing within days!!

Har · 18/10/2007 13:17

Minicooper - yours sounds perfect, noticeable at 8 weeks and neat at 34 !

Mynameis - what a contrast, crazy!

Mildmannered - I can't believe it took so long and then all at once. Pregnancy is such a weird thing!

Thanks everyone for your answers, seems we're all very different!

Hmm, 'seems we're all very different' - how trite did that sound?!

it's fairly likely you'll have a #bugger I just look like I've been drinking too much beer' bit before the bump pops properly.

On the plus side (!) you can make the most of being able to move around without feeling like a 9,000 year old lardy person

sar123 · 18/10/2007 14:19

somewhere between 20 and 25 weeks - nothing there at 20, definite bump by 25, didn't look properly pregnant (just like i'd eaten all the pies) until around six months. Really annoying, especially because I bought loads of maternity stuff when I was about 12 weeks out of excitement, couldn't wear any of it until i was over 7 months and had a bump big enough to fit it. Every time i tried it on before that i just looked like a whale.

MrsPuddleduck · 18/10/2007 14:37

I was out of my size 12 work trousers by 12 weeks and def showing by 16. I must have bad stomach muscles. Don't remember being any bigger second time around though.
