My mum's first labour started when her waters broke with a gush at 39 weeks, then she gave birth the next day. Up until that point she was still working and had no signs of anything getting ready at all. I'm hoping I'm similar to her as I've had no signs yet!

Were you similar?

My mum had me at 39+4 weeks and I've just given birth also at 39+4 weeks so I think we were pretty spot on with timings!

BluSpider · 17/11/2020 15:46

Nope. My mum had me at 32 weeks... I was unfortunately pregnant until 41 weeks!

Paperyfish · 17/11/2020 15:49

No. My mum gave birth in the early 80’s. I didn’t until 2011.

MsHedgehog · 17/11/2020 16:04

Not labour, but pregnancy symptoms - I have the same pregnancy symptoms that my mum had when she was pregnant with me, with the most oddest ones being not being able to drink anything that isn't fizzy (including water) and even then, only being able to drink from a bowl rather than a glass or cup (I don't know either...)

fragglerockette · 17/11/2020 16:14

I had the same due date with my first child as my mum had with me, I then gave birth on my birthday just a hour later that I had been born. Both my mum and I had very quick, less than an hour labours.
We couldn't have been much more alike!

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 17/11/2020 16:26

Nope. Mum was 2 weeks late both times. I was 8 days earlier with DS....

AriesTheRam · 17/11/2020 16:28

No.i was induced at 41 weeks.Dm had me at 32 weeks spontaneously.

AegonT · 17/11/2020 16:30

My mum had 3 babies at 39 weeks or before (one premature at 35 weeks). My baby was at 39 weeks. My sister had hers at 37, 39 and 40 weeks in that order.

MrsG30 · 17/11/2020 16:36

Nope. My mum had easy peasy natural deliveries (her words!) at bang on 40 weeks.

I was induced at 40+4 and ended up knocked out for an emergency section with DS. Elective section this time!

Ohalrightthen · 17/11/2020 16:40

Mum had me at 39+3 and my sister at 40+4. I had DD at 40+4.

physicskate · 17/11/2020 16:45

My mum was nearly three weeks overdue both times (early 80s - different times). I went to 40+5. Did end up having my labour augmented, as - like my mother's - it had been three days at that point. I was DONE.

firesong · 17/11/2020 17:41

No, I think mum had me and my siblings a little early. Mine were: first on time and second was slightly early.

JustAnotherUserinParadise · 17/11/2020 18:12

interesting...
I (oldest) was apparently 2 weeks late and an extended breech so ended up as a c-section! My mum said I had my feet up round my ears (I can still do this!)

Dyra · 17/11/2020 18:17

According to my Mum, my sister and I were born at the same time we had our children. Shortly after midnight for my sister, and just before 5 in the afternoon for me.

Going into labour and labour itself we couldn't have been more different than our Mum though.

minipie · 17/11/2020 18:25

Nope. Mum was 10+ days late with us both. I was 6 weeks early with Dc1 and 3 weeks early with DC2. We are physically very similar so I really wasn’t expecting it!

Amelia891 · 17/11/2020 18:40

My mum had me at 37 weeks and I had my daughter at 40 weeks but our labours were pretty similar

Grumpy19 · 17/11/2020 19:21

No. My mum had her first at 28weeks. I had mine at 42+2!

BurningBenches · 17/11/2020 19:45

Nope. My mum had two relatively easy spontaneous vaginal births at 37wks and my sibling and I were 6lbers.

My 1st and 3rd were induced at 42wks, my second was spontaneous at 41+2 And 4th induced at 40wks. All huge. So no despite my hopes of following in her footsteps my experiences were completely different.

I'm built far more like my paternal grandma and aunty though.

Tararararara · 17/11/2020 20:53

No. My mum was 43 weeks with me before I was forcibly removed. 42 with my sister and 2 of my brothers and 41 weeks with the other brother.

My sister was 42 weeks with her first.

All babies were enormous (9lbs 2 - 10lbs 10)

Imagine my surprise when I deliver two 6lb babies at 37+6 and 37 exactly.

happymummy12345 · 17/11/2020 20:55

No not at all. My mum had 3 elective c sections. I was breech and she decided she didn't want them to try and turn me, and both subsequent pregnancies she chose a c section. In fact she said she always knew she wanted c sections. In her words "why go through the length and pain of a natural birth when you can just lie there and that's it? It's much easier all round". To be clear they were her words, I DO NOT agree with her opinion or the language she used. When I was pregnant one of the first things she asked me was if I was having an elective c section, for the reasons above. She was shocked when I said no.

I knew if possible i wanted a vaginal delivery in a midwife led birth centre with minimal or no drugs. I ended up having 4 days of contractions as the head wasn't fully engaged. A sweep on the Friday afternoon, I went to the birth centre the Friday night. Had my waters broken about 2am. Then gave birth at 6.58 on the Saturday morning. For pain relief I just had a tens machine as long as possible, a birth ball. Then the pool. I did end up having a pethadine injection so I could rest as I was physically exhausted by this point and still had to actually deliver. I tried a tiny bit of gas and air as the midwife suggested but it made me feel sick and gave me a headache so I said no to it. And I said no epidural from the start unless it was an absolute last resort. I didn't want drugs

DramaAlpaca · 17/11/2020 20:58

DM had me by c-section on her due date and was induced a couple of days early with my sibling. Things were done very differently in the 60s.

I had spontaneous labours five days before my due date (twice) and five days after.

DinosaurGrrrrr · 17/11/2020 21:13

Nope, my mum was induced with my older brother, can’t remember why but she was full term but not overdue, I was 2 weeks early and my sister was 1 week late. Both my children arrived at 39 weeks exactly spontaneous labours. Not remotely the same, my mum seemed to have no pattern though!

IJumpedAboardAPirateShip · 17/11/2020 21:14

Funny yes we both went 10 days overdue with our firsts. Her labour however was 26hrs and mine was 3.5!!

Nutrigrainygoodness · 17/11/2020 21:20

No. She spent weeks in hospital before I was born- and basically she was induced 3 weeks early.

My pg with dd was very straightforward, but I had to be induced at 41+6 dd was not for shifting.

Welshcake15 · 17/11/2020 21:57

No. I was born 6 weeks premature, and then she had my both my younger brother and sister 4 weeks early. I gave birth at 40 +13.
