How many pregnancies, how many babies? (TW)

Not starting this thread to scare or upset anyone, so please don't read any further if talking about miscarriage might upset or worry you! Only asking because I've seen a couple of high profile people talk about their MCs recently and it's highlighted to me how common they are and that people just don't talk about them so they feel rare. I sort of knew this in theory, but it's really hit home. It seems there are very few (lucky) people who have had several healthy babies and no losses.

So, if you're comfortably answering, how many pregnancies have you had and how did they end?

I count myself as having had 1 pregnancy which thankfully gave me my little boy. I also had an unplanned CP but it was such an early loss (my period started just 3 days late after 1 faint line) and I was so emotionally unattached that I really didn't feel like I'd had a MC at all, so I don't really count it.

For those who lost their babies between around 10 weeks, did they say why? I know they say that something like 25% of pregnancies end in miscarriage but when I looked further at the stats, at 10 weeks, the chances of a miscarriage is about 2%. Therefore surely there must have been something that went seriously wrong? I had a miscarriage a few months ago at 10 weeks and all they could tell me is, it happens. I wish I knew as I can't stop thinking that it was probably something that I did..

ImEatingVeryHealthilyOhYes · 13/11/2020 16:45

3 pregnancies, 2 live babies

It’s so important women know about this, I think this thread would shock a lot of young women - it certainly would’ve shocked me at age 20, well in fact anytime before got into the baby zone in early 30s

EssentialHummus · 13/11/2020 16:57

1 live birth, 1 MC, now trying again.

This thread is really important for anyone planning to start a family, or anyone prone to asking why a child is an only / when baby no. 2 is coming along etc.

princesspeppax · 13/11/2020 16:58

Odile13 · 13/11/2020 17:16

@AwaAnBileYerHeid I had one at 9 weeks and one at 12 weeks. Because I had scans with each I know that one did not develop properly from early on but my body didn’t realise it, and the other one had a heartbeat but was very undersized at 7 weeks but I didn’t miscarry until 9 weeks. They couldn’t give any specific reasons for either. Unless you have scans you don’t know exactly when the pregnancy stopped before your actual miscarriage. Also, 2% sounds low - but obviously that means it happens to 2 in 100 people and that’s not such a rare occurrence when you think about it.

Please don’t blame yourself. It’s not your fault. It just adds extra misery when we’ve already suffered enough. Wishing you all the best Flowers

DinosaurGrrrrr · 13/11/2020 17:43

4 pregnancies
First 2 were healthy babies
3 I miscarried at 7 weeks
4 I’m 25 weeks pregnant with.

Most people I know that I’m close enough to have conversations about this sort of thing with have had at least 1 miscarriage. The stats are pretty high for miscarriage in the first trimester so it’s hardly surprising really. People having babies later probably doesn’t help these days too.

GrandTheftWalrus · 13/11/2020 17:53

3 pregnancies.

1st healthy baby nearly 4yo - 2016

2nd mmc at 7.5 weeks, seen at private scan at 11 weeks. May 2020

3rd currently 14 weeks and very hopeful. Due May 2021

Strokethefurrywall · 13/11/2020 17:54

2 pregnancies
2 babies

Lemming20 · 13/11/2020 18:00

4 pregnancies and 2 babies.

My mc’s were at 5 weeks and 11 weeks. The 11 week was traumatic as I had bleeding, saw a heartbeat and then miscarried 2 weeks later.

I don’t know anyone else who admits they have had a miscarriage. I am sure I am not alone but it does still feel like people don’t want to discuss it. For that exact reason I am open about it in the hope people going into the whole conceiving thing with their eyes open. For some it is easy but not so much for others. Love to all with losses x

@AwaAnBileYerHeid I had a MMC at 10 weeks which wasn't picked up until 12 week scan. This was 6 years ago and I've been lucky enough to have a healthy DS and currently 8.5 weeks pregnant, but like you I've always wondered what went wrong with that one. I was told its just one of those things and that they couldn't tell me why, everything was there it just had no heartbeat. The 10 week mark with my DS my anxiety was through the roof and it will be exactly the same with this one I'm sure!

Chocolatecoffeewine · 13/11/2020 18:06

Six definite pregnancies. One MMC (second trimester), one miscarriage at 11 weeks, one neonatal death. No idea how many chemical miscarriages.

gypsywater · 13/11/2020 18:11

1 pregnancy
0 babies
Had MMC at 10+4 in Sept and am trying again

Tucancrossing · 13/11/2020 18:11

Wow, thank you so much to everyone for your honest replies. This thread is humbling and shocking and very sad. My heart goes out to everyone who has suffered a loss, which seems to be most people. In some ways this thread makes me scared to try for future pregnancies, but it's also supportive to know that if I do suffer a future loss I'm very much not alone 💕
