First Pregnancy - anyone else super nervous?

Hi everyone

So I found out last week I’m expecting around July 2021. Currently 4 weeks + 5. YAY!

So excited and still in total shock but I feel any little pain/cramp somethings wrong and I already feel like the first trimester is going to drag because of the nerves.

No one actually knows I’m pregnant yet apart from my OH but it would be lovely to chat to anyone in the same situation for reassurance and make some new mummy friends for this incredible journey.

💙💗

@July21Baby hope your scan was okay! I got to see the sac and a little heartbeat - it looked like a little bean Smile
Thanks @BellaBella84 will give those a try!
I haven’t told work yet, slightly complicated as I am a doctor, but I think once I’m 12 weeks I’ll ask not to see any covid symptomatic patients and see what happens, but don’t feel I can bow out any earlier. I think current guidance leans towards being more cautious after 28 weeks, so I’m just being super careful with my PPE for now. Really tricky.

July21Baby · 17/11/2020 13:56

@Thedot90 ah I bet that was such a lovely thing to see. And amazing for reassurance!

Oh that is tricky. Would you not be able to mention it earlier to be on the safe side?

I had to cancel my scan as my OH has covid 😭. Have to wait till the 29th now. So gutted xx

@Thedot90 I'm an interventional radiology nurse, had about 5 pages of risk assessments! No scrub work etc or on call until after 12 weeks, no red patients and FFP3 + visor for amber, no chemo cases, increased radiation dose monitoring... I think my lot would have me wrapped up in cotton wool until 28 weeks and then lock me out the building! 🤣

Baker0104 · 17/11/2020 14:33

Can I join please? I got my bfp this morning after a bfn on Friday so I'd convinced myself this month wasn't the one! Plus it's our first month ttc so really wasn't expecting to see 2 lines this morning! I've ordered a clearblue test from amazon that'll come tomorrow so I'll do another test to make sure lol. According to my dates I'm 4 weeks and 1 day, it just seems so crazy! I've been cramping a bit today and my boobs (esp my nipples) are sore and tender, no sign of AF that was meant to arrive today so looks like I am actually pregnant, eeekkkk! Debating an early private scan so my partner can come but also because i can't imagine waiting that long for the NHS one. I'm a whole bundle of emotion today, very overwhelmed!

Thedot90 · 17/11/2020 15:00

@BellaBella84 aah amazing, how many weeks were you when you told them? I think I’m nervous because I had a really early miscarriage in July (around 5 weeks) and didn’t tell work at all then, but scared I’ll jinx it, or won’t want to tell anyone if I have another miscarriage?! But sounds like your work have taken you really seriously which is amazing, so that’s making me lean towards just telling them - maybe when I hit 8 weeks.

Now I feel like a fraud being on the first pregnancy thread 😂 but it’s the first “proper” pregnancy that’s got to the point of having a heartbeat/proper symptoms, so please let me stay haha!

@Baker0104 congratulation! Welcome to the party...

BellaBella84 · 17/11/2020 18:55

@thedot90 I told my lot at 5 weeks as soon as I was confident it wasn't a chemical. We're a really close little family and I have ZERO poker face! They've all known since January that we've been trying and have been amazing throughout the monthly anticipation/ devastation cycle. If this pregnancy doesn't work out I can't imagine not needing their support. My matron actually cried and one of our consultants was so excited he forgot about Covid and hugged me! When one of our radiographers offered to do my early trans vaginal ultrasound, I suggested that maybe that was a step too far! 🤣

Hilariously we're waiting to tell our parents at Christmas. 🤦‍♀️

BellaBella84 · 17/11/2020 18:58

@Baker0104 Congratulations! 🤞
Please do share all your random and irrational worries. It's good to get them off your chest, and you're certainly in good company!

Thank you! I think I've calmed down a bit now 😂 although just rang round and told our parents so it's sinking in even more now. Thinking ill be booking an early reassurance scan as I don't think I can wait until January 😂

Thedot90 · 17/11/2020 20:02

@BellaBella84 ah that sounds so lovely and supportive! I think I’m just worried about putting people out as we’re a small team (GP practice, and I’m one of the 2 permanent doctors) and I’m not blowing my own trumpet but I think the place would fall apart slightly if I wasn’t seeing hot patients, as most locums don’t tend to see many face to face! I also do shifts in a&e which I have stopped now as way more unpredictable who will wander in coughing everywhere and refusing to wear masks Hmm. It’s very difficult weighing it up but I guess I have to think about my/baby’s health as well

BellaBella84 · 17/11/2020 20:14

@Thedot90 A&E AND GP wow are you busy (and/or sucker for punishment!) Drop a line to occupational health in the morning for their input, help you make a decision for when to tell your team. I know exactly what you mean about jinxing though, but I have it on very good authority that the evidence base behind it is sketchy ❤️

Thedot90 · 17/11/2020 20:38

@BellaBella84 haha I know, I don’t make a very good patient - must remember jinxing does not exist (or that’s what I tell my patients anyway 😂)

Hi Beckie! I found out today as well, also 4 weeks and 1 day. I definitely wasn't expecting to see a positive this morning! How are you feeling? I'm a really bundle of emotion today, we told our parents this evening and I cried like a baby 😂
Beckie93 · 17/11/2020 23:35

Hi, congratulations! I'm okay keep feeling waves off sickness and a few tummy cramps. How are you? We also told our parents and I cried. Happy tears though. I am still in shock it has finally happened!

Baker0104 · 18/11/2020 08:13

@Beckie93 oh I'm the same with the cramping and sicky feeling, I've not bebe sick but it just comes in waves, going to be fun to hide when I'm at work! I thought the cramping was me coming on my period and I don't know why but I just got an urge to take a test and there they were! I'm definitely in shock still, and very emotional. Are you going to get an early scan?

BellaBella84 · 18/11/2020 22:15

Today the fear and panic was overwhelming. 7 weeks and still no symptoms. My boobs were a bit uncomfortable last week and now they're not. 6 more neurotic days to go until early scan.

rosieb060 · 18/11/2020 23:12

YES. V dizzy and then travel sickness today driving my own car.

I'm 4 weeks +2

Cressie2 · 19/11/2020 23:14

Congratulations @Baker0104 @Beckie93!

@BellaBella84 I’m with you. Symptoms change each day and none as of late. Hate the tummy cramps but hear it’s pretty normal so keeping calm. Has anyone got any good Apps to keep them busy/smiling whilst we wait for scans? I’ve got Pregnancy + and Ovia which seem brill. X

Baker0104 · 20/11/2020 06:45

@cressie2 thank you! I also have the bounty app and Emma's diary. You can get little freebie bags from both of them throughout your pregnancy (I'm going to pick my first ones up today lol) you just have to go to boots and show them the code on your app apparently. I like a variety of apps because they all seem to show different things which is nice.

I think I'm. Going to get some books as well as I love reading so if anyone has any recommendations on those that would be great 😊

Beckie93 · 20/11/2020 12:09

Hi, I'm 4+4 and suffering with real bad headaches. This is my first pregnancy. Is anyone else suffering with headaches? Xx

Hi, yes we are booking a early scan for 7 weeks. I'm so excited. Are you booking a early scan? Xx

Thedot90 · 20/11/2020 13:03

@Beckie93 sorry if this sounds obvious but have you cut out coffee? I tried to cut it out when I found out I was pregnant but got such bad withdrawal headaches I have decided to allow myself a coffee a day!

Eclipsa · 20/11/2020 14:41

Congrats to everyone may it will be healthy journey! If you don't mind I would love to join the chat

I'm around 2-3 weeks pregnant, it might be too early but I really need to share with someone. We have been actively trying for more than year but passively for more than 3 years even had a fertility appointment next week.

I'm really feeling confused 🤷‍♀️right know, trying not to worry myself as my symptoms are mild- and a bit severe cramps and boobs exploding with pain.

It's my first pregnancy and so much wanted, my GP only have phone consultation which I booked for the next Monday, hope they won't dismiss me that it's too early. Unfortunately I have a trust issue with doctors, due to previous neglect and misdiagnosis also worries about that.

@marsvar28 I feel you, I'm unconsciously doing the same but trying not to focus on fear which is truly hard. Hope it will help to know that you are not Alone!

Baker0104 · 20/11/2020 16:08

@Beckie93 yes we are going to book one for mid December where I'll be 8+1, and it's our anniversary so hopefully all will be well! Just seen about your headaches, I had this yesterday and I'm accounting it to sudden lack of caffeine and sugar (coffee and coke drinker!) x

@Eclipsa congratulations! Have you told the receptionist why you're booking an appointment? I was asked and then told that in my area its all self referral so was given a website to go onto, filled a form in and now I just have to wait for the midwife to call. I did ask for a higher dose of folic acid though as my bmi is high and that was all sorted. Fingers crossed all goes well with your doctor, I was warned by my friend whose pregnant at the moment that the GP is always a bit underwhelming 😔 xx

BellaBella84 · 21/11/2020 11:17

@Baker0104 I'm down to one cup of coffee first thing (proper, not instant) and I have a bottle of coke in the kitchen which I take the occasionat illicit glug from, as if it were a hidden bottle of gin! Maybe coke is the new mothers ruin?! 🤣
