Stupid question and worried question

Ok, apologies for v stupid question. Went to a girls school where sex education meant passing round a tampon and giggling so that's my (bad) excuse. How do you count pregnancy? Do you count from first day of last period, or last day of last period, or from half way through the cycle etc etc?I have a 29 day cycle and was due on last Saturday (tested pregnant on Thursday) does that make me around 5 weeks? Again sorry to be so dumb .

Now, worried question... am mildly nauseous, have period type cramping and pulling sensation - all of which seem on the right track. However I also have an on/off pain in my right hand side. Almost like a stitch. I'm worried that that could point to an ectopic pregnancy. However have read that the pain is usually constant, is that right? As of yet I have no bleeding (just quite a lot of cm). Sorry if tmi! Can't see my gynae till the beginning of next week so would really like some advice. Thank you so much!

Count from 1st day of last period. So day 29 is four weeks pregnant, now you are 5 weeks. COngratulations!

BellaBear · 15/10/2007 19:01

Not sure about the pain though - some is definitely normal but no idea about the ectopic symptoms, sorry.

Lots of people on here do though, so keep this bumped!

BellaBear · 15/10/2007 19:02

And your question wasn't at all stupid - I knew nothing of this whole two weeks more pregnant thing till I got pregnant!

lemonaid · 15/10/2007 19:04

The one-sided pain is very common in early pregnancy and is normally just a corpus luteum cyst (nothing to worry about).

Har · 15/10/2007 19:36

Thank you both so much!
Bellabear - five weeks sounds so great when five days ago I had no idea!
Lemonaid - thank you so much, feel much calmer now .

Congrats - BUMP

BellaBear · 15/10/2007 19:55

Har - yes, i know what you mean, you are always four weeks more pregnant than since you found out. If that makes sense. Good luck for the rest of it!

fangsandflash · 15/10/2007 20:00

Congrats - all sounds pretty normal tbh - try not to worry - take your folic acid and get lots of rest

Har · 15/10/2007 20:03

Thank you Gigglewitch and Fangsandflash (love your names!) You're all making me feel much happier!

Haven't read all replies, but not stupid at all!
First day of last period

I had loads of pains like this. very worrying and all fine, but get it checked for your own piece of mind if you are concerned

Beenleigh · 15/10/2007 20:06

PEACE!!!

doggiesayswoof · 15/10/2007 20:11

Not a stupid question at all - I was talking about the dating thing with some child-free friends at work today and none of them knew about it.

I got lots of little niggly pains first time round - and I am 8 weeks now with no.2 and still getting them from time to time - and I was always told it was normal and nothing to worry about.

I do remember that feeling of panic with every twinge though! If you are concerned get it checked out.

oh - congratulations

Har · 15/10/2007 20:24

Thank you Doggiesayswoof (god by nickname's unimaginative!) and Beenleigh. Am seeing my gynae next week but if it gets worse I will go and see someone sooner. This is so neverwracking, isn't it?!

Pheebe · 15/10/2007 20:25

As other posters have said, one-sided pain is quite common and not necessarily an indicator of an ectopic. However, it shouldn't be ignored as the early an ectopic is found the better the chance of saving the tube, best to go and get checked

Har · 15/10/2007 20:44

Thanks Pheebe, unfortunately there's no way I can see someone before next Tuesday or Wednesday (I live abroad and the system out here is impossible, great once you're in but pretty hard to get in!) If it doesn't get worse do you think it's ok? Will go to a hospital if it gets bad.

hello Har

Was your last period the 7th of September by any chance that means you are 5+3 weeks pregnant today double with a due date of 13th June 2008

when you have your 12 week scan they may change your due date by a few days as the foetus might be larger or smaller but thats nothing to worry about, your due date is just a rough estimate to give them a date, only about 1% of women have a baby on their due date.

Har · 15/10/2007 21:09

Spooky!!!! Aw, so nice to see you here! Didn't think I should bring my paranoid ramblings to the October thread. Any fun news from over there? Will go check now (so much happens there each day that I can't keep up, my new routine is to check early each morning before everyone's got going again so I can get a grip on everyone's news. Full time job isn't it?!)

Yay, cycle buddies are useful for working out due dates! June 13th. What a very very nice due date I think. Oh fingers crossed, touch wood, salute magpies etc etc! Would have been most fun if we were due date buddies too but your cycles seem to be pretty short so we could end up close anyway (fingers crossed once again!)

What does the +3 bit mean though? Probably v obvious .

spookykitty · 15/10/2007 21:25

hey Har 5+3 means 5 weeks and 3 days so if last Friday you were 5 weeks spot on Saturday you are 5+1 Sunday 5+2 this Thursday you will be 5+6 then on Friday you are 6 weeks if that makes sense

And don't worry about asking questions your a first timer it's your job I was in the same place you once were, your first pregnancy is lovely its all new, sit back relax and enjoy it's gonna be one helluva ride

Har · 15/10/2007 22:20

Duh. Thank you Sk. Or course it meant 3 days . Thanks for what you said, and I'm definitely going to enjoy this (when I stop worrying!), I can imagine being pregnant when you already have children is quite a different matter!

OP posts:
Har · 15/10/2007 22:21

As in with the relaxing!

Morning everyone, should now add 'disgusting question' to the title. Really sorry for this major bit of tmi... Woke up this morning feeling dizzy and then had bad runny tummy (have had this in the morning for the last few days but only the first time in the day, worse this morning but feels like won't be any more today .)

Has anyone else had this in early pregnancy (read that constipation is more common)? Googled (damn Google) and found that you can have that if ectopic pregnancy so am freaking out about that (though pain on right side isn't very noticeable at the moment).

OP posts:
lemonaid · 16/10/2007 08:37

It's quite normal -- constipation is more common, but I'd say about 20% of the people on my antenatal thread have the, ah, opposite problem, as you do.

Har · 16/10/2007 08:40

Thank you Lemonaid, sorry to go on and on. Will shut up when I've finally had my doctor's appointment and can bombard her!

Har · 16/10/2007 10:40

Thanks Sweetbean, not fun is it?! Went to bed (the benefit of working from home!) for a couple of hours and feeling a little better now. Still feeling a little feverish but hoping that will pass too. Hope you're feeling well otherwise .
