6 week scan empty sac

Hi, I went for an early scan today all they could see was an empty sac have to go back in 11 days for a rescan. Has anyone else experienced this?

Following as in same boat - thought I was 6 weeks but just an empty sac to be seen yesterday. I’ve booked another for Tuesday 10th. Terrifying wait

This happened to my daughter. It wasn't a good outcome I'm afraid.

Sorry I should have added I've seen other threads on here where the outcome is a good one, where it turns out they were less weeks than expected (later ovulation) and it was just that they scanned too early.

Hi OP, yes I had this exactly a year ago. I had a couple of rescans as my sac was growing normally and my HCG was high. I was diagnosed with something called a blighted ovum although I've read it's usually called an anembryonic pregnancy.

It was very difficult and upsetting but I'm now 13 weeks pregnant. It may be this or may just be that it's too early to see anything, it's not usually recommended to have a scan this early as it causes a lot of stress when nothing can be seen. Good luck xx

Did your sac have a yolc sac in? Seriously regretting getting an early scan!

I had an empty sac at 5+5 days and by 6+6 it was there, so don't panic just yet! X

I had this in April of this year. My sac was empty at 6 weeks and still at 9 weeks. I miscarried a few days later.
But on the other hand, your dates could be a little earlier, so hopefully you will be able to see a HB soon.

I had this in the summer, I had 3 rescans in total. First 2 scans I had nothing except a pregnancy sac which eventually got bigger, both scans showed no yolk and on the 3rd scan they found the baby and a heartbeat.
I know I can’t promise you anything but please keep positive (I know it’s hard). I remember feeling terrified going into the 3rd scan and expected nothing there but I’m 18wks now.

I had an empty sac until 9 weeks. Said empty sac is sitting next to me right now. Fingers crossed op.

At 6 weeks it's 50:50. I've had the same situation and gone back for a follow up scan and had growth. Similarly I've also had no growth. It's such an early stage, really the only purpose of a scan at that point is to ensure it is not ectopic. 8 weeks is the best point to have an early scan, much more definitive by then. Good luck!

I had this with my current pregnancy. I thought I was 7 weeks but scam showed 5 weeks and sac empty. I went back 2 weeks later and there was an embryo with a heartbeat. I'm now 14 weeks.

Thankyou everyone trying to remain positive! Feel like my head is playing tricks on me woke up with little pregnancy symptoms but no bleeding or pain! Praying they come back in the next couple of days never wished for morning sickness so much😂

A scan at 6 weeks sounds too early.

Hi, I’m in exactly the same situation - but I don’t think it will have a positive ending. I should be 7 weeks tomorrow and when I had a scan on Friday there was an empty sac measuring 5+5 weeks. Having a rescan in 2
Weeks but they probably should have done bloods- May call and ask on Monday.

I just wish I hadn’t went for a scan so early all this stress which doesn’t help! I’m going to ring midwife on Monday and explain as getting bloods done Wednesday so hopefully they’ll have some advice! Still hoping the best for you! X

I had an early scan at 6 weeks and I had an empty sac. They estimated I was 5+5 but couldn't see any heartbeat and I had to wait two weeks to be re-scanned. When we went back there was a lovely little bean with a heartbeat and I'm pleased to say I'm 34 weeks now. I remember the stress I felt for those 2 weeks and the many positive outcome stories I read that kept me going. Wishing the best for you 💕

Thankyou I also posted a thread on netmums having a horrible time on there with some of the ladies arguing on my post and being very blunt with their responses. So glad you had a positive outcome praying the same happens for me but keeping an open mind! Enjoy your Christmas baby! 👼

@PaigeS96 early scans like this are the absolute opposite of reassurance! I massively regret not waiting for mine. I have booked another a week tomorrow when I should be 7+5 by LMP but 6+4 if my empty sac was the right gestation. Not sure whether to push back a few days further but more sure I can take any more waiting.

I go on the 11th feel like I’ve lost all hope but the pregnancy symptoms are out of control. Then all you do is google the worse case scenario! Hope everything works out for you! Will never book an early scan again!

@PaigeS96 I too am in this same boat! Had HCG's done last week, all increasing but not doubling, last one done on Monday so go sent me to EPU yesterday as they were afraid of ectopic which it isn't. I am 6+2, only a sac seen but no yolk or fetal pole! However I know my dates are certain as I have been tracking so I can't have ovulated any later. So I'm back again for a rescan next Friday 😔 I had a miscarriage in July. Hope yours goes well x

I seen my midwife today the haven’t checked levels so still really unsure have to wait until Wednesday trying to just think positive! Hoping things go well keep us updated I am 7+5 today longest wait ever! X

This happened to me op and my empty sac is now 4 😊 I only had an early scan as had an ectopic just before and it was awful knowing I had to wait two weeks to see if there was anything there. Please be kind to yourself until the 11th. Fingers crossed for you!
