@60sPony had any luck with infacol for their wind ? my baby sleeps brilliantly during the day, last night he didn't settle till past 4am, he seems to be constipated again on and off but we're nervous to switch milks incase that doesn't help.

My recovery seems to be one step forward and two steps back at the moment, i had been eating as much as i did pre pregnancy but got very weak yesterday and ended up on the phone to 111 as i was worried i could have another infection or something but they just told me i need to get more food and fluid intake.

I didn't expect to be finding things so hard physically 2 weeks post partum even with what extra happened to me post labour, I m getting quite teary when i have to go past the hospital for any reason as well.

Mc3209 · 23/11/2020 14:09

@60sPony yeah, my boy is also quite windy during the night, which makes him a noisy sleeper. I just started doing NDC Possums sleep program (which is Australian version of sleep training, supposed to be better). Hopefully their tips will work, I am willing to sacrifice £23 for it ☺️

@1990shopefulftm I am sorry to hear you are having a tough time. What does HV say?

I am now calorie counting and walking daily with a pram for exercise in my attempts to shift the weight. Curious to see if that post pregnancy pouch will go away..

1990shopefulftm · 23/11/2020 14:51

@Mc3209 the HV is not too concerned about the constipation at the moment.

Mc3209 · 23/11/2020 14:58

@1990shopefulftm have you mentioned to her how you are feeling yourself? Might be worth it.

1990shopefulftm · 23/11/2020 15:19

@Mc3209 we haven't been discharged by the midwife yet and I ve mentioned it to her, she along with midwifes at the hospital suggested I use their birth after thoughts service which I want to do in a few weeks.

I can access phone counselling privately as well which I m willing to give it a try when I m doing a bit better physically.

My little guy has been super unsettled the last couple of days - think he’s going through cluster feeding again and really fighting sleep in the day.

Anyone else found their babies hate being out of the house? He’s such a happy little one when we’re home aside from fighting sleep but as soon as we go out and he’s in the car seat he hates it and cries and cries! Makes me not want to leave the house 😩

I’ve been back out running 3 days a week for the last 2 weeks to try and shift the weight. Weighed myself today and I’m 2 stone over pre pregnancy weight at 3 weeks PP. I know 3 weeks is nothing but I’m dying to get back in my jeans!

Sls668 · 23/11/2020 22:31

@FirstSurprise001100% yes to baby hating being out of the house, although we went to the shops today and she was really fussing. I was all flustered thinking we’d never leave the house again. When we got back I realised she’d pooed all up her back and felt bad for thinking she was just being a little madam! 😂 I find she can be more unsettled when we get back too like she’s been overstimulated

SamK93 · 24/11/2020 11:27

Hi ladies hope your all doing well & hope babies are okay! I've been having some reflux issues with Noah it's really stressing me out as I never experienced it this bad with the other two DC. I've been combi feeding, he used to take 4oz of formula and my breast milk in between or at night. Now he spits up most of my breast milk after a feed, very very fussy when feeding whether it's breast or bottle, grunting and squirming. Also he's only taking 2oz from the bottle! I'm at my wits end, he spits up so much and just seems uncomfortable all the time. I spoke to the HV she said she wasn't worried and didn't give much good advice. He has his 6-8 week check with GP tomorrow so I will discuss it with him. I don't know why he's started to take less milk.

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 24/11/2020 11:45

Hi everyone, unfortunately I've been having real difficulties with breastfeeding this time around so have made the decision to stop. Lots of mummy guilt but what with latch struggles, blistered nippers and sheer exhaustion, it was the best thing for both of us.

Baby is doing really well and is a proper chunk

krissy12 · 24/11/2020 15:11

@SamK93 could your wee one have trapped wind? I find if mine hasn't winded well then he will screw his face up and not take the rest of his bottle or he will spit his milk up. he also grunts a lot. we have been using infacol before a feed which has been helping.

Glooorb · 24/11/2020 15:15

@SamK93 I think the gp can prescribe baby gaviscon which may help? Oscar has some reflux problems too, I try to keep him upright for 20mins after each feed

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt I totally understand the mum guilt but know that you made the best decision for your family. Breastfeeding isn't just about feeding your baby and that's it. You have your mental health and general well-being to think about as well as your partner. If you were super stressed about it, it would probably affect your baby in a different way anyway.

I struggled a lot with breastfeeding at the beginning and really contemplated throwing the towel in too.

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 24/11/2020 16:32

I think I found the decision hard as i breast fed my first so felt as though I was doing baby a disservice almost.

I'm more relaxed now though and feel happier in my decision.

My one has been fighting sleep this afternoon, must be really interested in all the royal family documentaries I've been bingeing on Netflix Grin

1990shopefulftm · 24/11/2020 19:45

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt sounds like you made the best decision for you and your family.

Baby boy got weighed today and is now 10lb 11 Oz, considering he didn't go onto milk completely until his third day we re so pleased he's got great weight gain and there's no signs of him having any lasting effects from the sepsis. I ve been able to take him out for walks in the pram for the past couple of days, I think my recovery is going slower than I hoped it would but I ll get there.

DressingGown87 · 24/11/2020 20:42

@Mc3209 let us know how you get one with that, I’ve heard someone else recommend the Australian way.

@FirstSurprise001 well done on the running front! It all takes time, remember it took us nine months to put it on! I’ve been walking, I’m hoping I can start jogging (on the treadmill) from next week! Hope you find a solution to going out. Paige had a meltdown in Sainsburys the other day, I was so embarrassed! Even found myself going please be quiet, or i will put your toy back 😂 not like she knew what I was saying. I found opening the car window slightly for her; helps settle her in the car.

@SamK93 have you tried asking the GP for gaviscon, Paige has reflux and that seems to have helped. But it did make her constipated on her first round, so this time I only do it in her night feeds, as this seems to be worse when she is led down to sleep. She is still irritable, but is a lot better since being on CMPA and gaviscon. Hope the GP can help you out tomorrow.

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt it sounds like you’ve made the right decision, and I’m glad your more relaxed now. Sometimes things don’t go as planned, and you need your sanity and strength to do everything else and look after your other DC!

@1990shopefulftm glad your managing to get out, things will just take time.

I start back working next week for myself, it’s gone so quick! I’m still off from my employer, so only doing a day a week, split into two sessions for now. Paige seems to be doing a bit better on her CMPA milk and gaviscon, she has a paediatrician appointment soon, as they want her stomach scanning though. She has some really good nights where she will sleep 7 hours, others she’s just up in pain.

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt Best is fed! Babies need healthy and happy mamas, sounds like you've made the right decision.

@DressingGown87 I am liking the Australian way so far, although it is still early to see any tangible results yet. I had to really gear up on playing/sensory stimulation front.
Re work, I actually ended up doing a bit of stuff for one of the projects I got involved in before I went on mat leave (it was relatively quick to do and would hopefully be beneficial for the future). It made me realise I can't combine 'mommy mode' and 'working mode'. Now I've decided to focus on learning baby rhymes, games, and songs (as I have no clue of any of it!), and hoping to powers above things will come together by the time I will need to go back to work. Let me know if you have any tips to stay sane when combining the two.

Rafa actually doesn't mind being outside the house, in fact he falls asleep in the pram. He had a meltdown once when we were in the park, but that's because he was hungry. Now I always make sure he feeds extra well before going outside.

krissy12 · 27/11/2020 18:59

hi hope everyone is getting on okay and enjoying motherhood. was just wondering how much your little ones are sleeping during the day and night ?

FirstSurprise001 · 27/11/2020 19:32

@krissy12 not enough at night that’s for sure 😂 my LO normally has a bath at 5:30pm, sleeps 6:30 until 9:30pm, 10/11pm-1/2am, then awake every 2/3 hours. We don’t really have any sort of routine in the day, sometimes he sleeps for 15 minutes at a time, sometimes 2 hours.

Would be interested to hear how the rest of you are getting on in comparison!

FirstSurprise001 · 27/11/2020 19:35

Also, does anyone else’s baby do a lot of grunting? Finley doesn’t cry when he wakes up, he just starts grunting over and over even though he’s half asleep until I get up and pick him up then he’s awake. We’ve started him on some infacol as he was squirming a lot with it so I figured he had trapped wind but the grunting is still happening.

SamK93 · 27/11/2020 21:17

@krissy12 my little one is 7 weeks old and still no sign of a routine as of yet. It took my other two until about 12 weeks until I saw some sort of routine. Just let them eat and sleep as they please at this stage as they have a lot of growing to do. They will fit into some sort of sleep and nap routine themselves soon.

@FirstSurprise001 mine is a grunter, has been from day 1. Squirms and grunts a lot when he's asleep, awake, even when being held, I was using infacol but that didn't really work I've been using gripe water since last week and has found it to be a lot better for him and I prefer it too as it works straight away unlike infacol which has to build up.

krissy12 · 28/11/2020 08:57

@FirstSurprise001 we dont really have a routine during the day but LO can sometimes sleep for 3-4straight so I was worrying that it might be too much. other days he can be wide awake all afternoon so it's not consistent. at night we try to do bath at 9 them bottle and bed for 10. it can normally take until about half 10 for him to settle. he then normally wakes up around 1am and 5 for bottle and change then sleeps until half 7 /8 sometimes later.
he is also very grunty especially during the night and when trying to wind him. we are using infacol aswell.

1990shopefulftm · 28/11/2020 09:07

How can we tell the difference between colic and constipation? Baby's 3 weeks old now and has been crying on and off for about 11 hours with short periods of sleep in between, I really don't know if we should try him on comfort milk at this point until yesterday 90% of the time we could calm him when he was crying but nothing is working for long and there's no signs that he's ill.

krissy12 · 28/11/2020 10:58

@1990shopefulftm I'm not sure how to tell the difference but a tip I saw on another group from lots of mums was if you think your baby is constipated give them a bottle of the ready made milk and it normally gets things going. I know if we have been out and give a bottle of ready made aptamil we get a dirty nappy a couple of hours later and dont have any other problems with it

1990shopefulftm · 28/11/2020 11:04

@krissy12 the ready made milk did work one day for him, we ll get some more in to see if it does the trick again.

SamK93 · 28/11/2020 12:34

@1990shopefulftm I've moved from aptamil 1 to aptamil anti reflux now, he was constipated for two days due to the change of milk I was advised to give 1 ounce of cooled boiled water between feeds, I only gave it to him once yesterday and a couple of hours later we had a nice explosion of poop and he was much better after.

1990shopefulftm · 28/11/2020 13:17

@SamK93 did you give him the water in a bottle?
