@Mc3209 we use a dummy too and have done since the hospital, however she seems to have realised it’s not the real thing and isn’t as keen anymore 😩

Does anyone else’s baby refuse to sleep in their own bed? Zuri wants to be on us all the time which I understand but will, at times, sleep in her pram but on a night she just wants to be attached to the boob. We’ve read all the safety guidelines but I’m still not that comfortable with it. Any tips? If not, just anyone to say their baby is exactly the same to make me feel better!

SamK93 · 15/11/2020 10:59

@Mc3209 we introduced a dummy at 2/3 weeks as he was sucking for comfort for hours and my nipples were so sore and bleeding. He spits it out once he's asleep.

@Sls668 my baby sleeps in his Moses basket during the day but just doesn't want to know at night! He won't sleep longer than ten mins in there at night. He's 5 and a half weeks old now, neither me or hubby smoke, I know all the safety guidelines as this is my third and I safely co sleep sometimes for my own sanity too as it's easier to breastfeed lying down at nighttime when your so tired! Sometimes I'll put him back in his basket if he's knocked out, if not he stays in with me.

GhostWorld · 15/11/2020 12:50

Yes having exactly the same problem with LO not wanting to sleep anywhere but with one of us, last night was particularly hard as he wanted feeding every hour other than between 3-5 when DP held him.. DP goes back to work tomorrow so we're v worried about tonight as I think ill just be up with him all night! Did a bit of co sleeping but it does make me nervous

Mc3209 · 16/11/2020 20:33

@DressingGown87 I naively thought witching hour was the evening thing. Clearly not! 😂

SamK93 · 17/11/2020 14:44

Hi ladies hope you are all well and enjoying newborn life. I'm exclusively breastfeeding but I want to start combination feeding soon as it's getting a bit too much for me with other 2 DC school runs, housework etc especially with lack of support and sleep. Anyway, with other 2 DC I used Aptamil when done with breastfeeding but I've heard a lot of good things about the Apramil Profutura milk. Just wanted to know if it was worth the extra few £s!

What formula are you ladies using?

SamK93 · 17/11/2020 14:44

Aptamil *

DressingGown87 · 17/11/2020 16:02

@SamK93 I was using cow and gate, as I was told there is not much difference between that and aptamil by the midwives, GP. I’ve seen that formula in shops, but don’t know what the difference is. Paige is allergic to cows milk, so we are now on prescription milk. Hope your doing ok? And getting a bit more help from your DP x

OP posts:
krissy12 · 17/11/2020 16:19

@SamK93 I initially used the aptamil profutura as my friend gifted us 2 tubs I then switched to normal aptamil to see how he was on it as it is a bit cheaper and have noticed no difference at all

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 17/11/2020 16:33

I'm combi feeding (2 formula bottles ish a day) and using cow and gate.

SamK93 · 17/11/2020 16:47

@DressingGown87 sorry to hear about Paige being allergic to cows milk, is that going to be something long term? I have heard before by weaning age some babies grow out the cows milk allergy. We're okay, just have to get on with it. DP is getting a bit better, he has his days. Hope u and Paige are well and having some lovely days out.

@krissy12 I have heard that too there's not much difference between the two Aptamils so maybe it's not worth the extra few pound.

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt just out of curiosity is the same feeds everyday that you supplement with the formula? Has it affected your own milk at all

DressingGown87 · 17/11/2020 17:05

@SamK93 thank you, hopefully she will grow out of it. Or I’m going to have some serious mum guilt eating chocolate. Glad things are a bit better, I have that attitude just got to get up and get on with it. Yes, being able to drive has given me so much freedom, so we go on a country walk nearly everyday. Hope your other DC have taken to baby Noah x

We re using cow and gate, we swapped from ready made to the powder and then baby was seemingly constipated for well over a day.

So DH had a rough night with him not settling last night but baby seems to have got things moving now. I ve had my second lot of iron today and finished my antibiotics so feeling like I m properly on the way to recovering now.

Flora20 · 17/11/2020 20:44

@DresdingGown87 Great work on the list! Looks like a lot of babies when you see it all written down like that! How's Paige getting on with her new milk, and how are you feeling a few weeks in?

@Sls668 @GhostWorld I'll be honest, I haven't actually tried getting Oren to sleep on his own... We did try with our first, she'd nap briefly in the moses basket in the day but at night she would only sleep on my chest - trying to persuade her to go in the basket caused so much trauma and I got a total of 8 hours sleep in a whole week 🙈Working out how to bedshare safely was a lifesaver, combined with feeding lying down so neither of you have to wake up when baby wants milk! Plus you get more snuggles 🙂 I've been sharing with Oren since he was born this time round, I love it!

Sls668 · 17/11/2020 20:56

Little lady is a week old today, am I absolutely mad that I want to go back and do it all again? I want time to just stand still! Hope everyone is getting on well!

DressingGown87 · 17/11/2020 21:53

@flora20 31st and the 1st seem to be the busiest days for babies! Thank you, It seems to have made a vast improvement. She still has a lot of dirty nappies and is sick more, but that’s just the milk, plus it smells horrible. She seems so much more settled on it, her rash has gone, she doesnt Yelp/scream in pain as much, and she’s sleeps better at night (last couple of nights 9.30-5.00 5.30-10.00). I’m feeling ok, just struggle sometimes with the loneliness and restrictions. Plus the downside to her sleeping great at night, I struggle with getting a shower, leave the house or to cook and eat, I just don’t get a break being on my own. I think it’s hit home that it’s just us too, as her dad hasn’t even made contact. How are you doing? How is your DD with Oren?

@Sls668 I would do it again 🙈 but not on my own next time 😂

@1990shopefulftm glad your feeling better, and on the road to recovery. Hopefully you’ll have a better night. Lots of bicycle legs and a warm bath can help them with constipation.

One of the midwives told me to use a hot water bottle to warm her next to me up, and place something that smells of me, so I usually place a pillowcase in, or pj top. Which helps her settle at night. I also hold her hand sometimes and rub it as she drifts off.

GhostWorld · 18/11/2020 00:50

@flora20 this might sound stupid but for bed sharing do you feed on your side and then roll the baby on their back once they've finished feeding? I've fed him on my side a couple of times but it makes me really sleepy and I think I'm going to fall asleep with him facing me

@dressinggown87 thanks so much for putting that list together so interesting seeing how many lovely newborns there are!

FirstSurprise001 · 18/11/2020 04:47

For those struggling with baby sleeping in their next to me/Moses basket, have you tried swaddling? Our little man was waking himself up every hour in his next to me last week, constantly hitting himself in the face or the sides of the bed and waking up. We started swaddling him from last Friday, nappy change - feed - swaddle - fall asleep on my chest. So far (please don’t jinx!!) he’s sleeping SO much better, not grunting or whimpering when I put him down anymore and I’m waking him for a feed now.

Think it has something to do with it feeling like they’re still in the womb. Plus we’re using these self-velcroed ones which makes it so much easier at 4am 😅😂

60sPony · 18/11/2020 07:53

@DressingGown87 thanks for compiling the list. Must have been the full moon effect on 31st! Glad to hear you’re getting on well and wow that sleep at night is amazing.

My son has packed on the lbs since birth which is great but we are off to jaundice clinic tomorrow as he can’t seem to shift it, anyone else’s babies had prolonged jaundice?

Mc3209 · 18/11/2020 08:46

@FirstSurprise001 I am using a swaddle, not every night though. Rafa likes to sleep with his hands up by his face, so I put him in Love to Dream zip up swaddle, but sometimes he just chews on the hand bits, then thinks he is hungry and sets off asking for food, even if he just came off the boob. I need to figure out the timing somehow. But at other times it works beautifully, used it last night and he slept well, waking twice.

I am really enjoying not being pregnant at the moment. I can sleep on my back and my front! Oh the luxury! And my rings fit again 😂

Flora20 · 18/11/2020 10:53

@GhostWorld If I'm feeding him lying down, I have my arm around the top of his head and my legs curled around so his feet are touching my thighs, with my other hand resting on his hip to keep him facing me. I try to ease him onto his back when he's finished but the way we lie means that even if I don't (more so as the night goes on!) he naturally relaxes back in his sleep so he's mostly on his back, even if his head and torso are slightly towards me. X

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 18/11/2020 18:45

Im 10 days postpartum and my tummy is feeling tender still. Anyone else? I can't remember how I felt postpartum with my first

DressingGown87 · 19/11/2020 22:09

@60sPony thank you! Hope your got on ok at the jaundice clinic. Paiges cleared up on its own at home. My friends little girl just went in for 12 hours to go under a lamp, and that seemed to work.

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt mine was still quite tender for a few weeks, but I had a csection. I remember it feeling quite hollow and jelly like, and just weird too. Hope it feels better today.

Can’t remember who suggested using a Muslin in the bath, but thank you! She seems to enjoy bath time a bit more now (well doesn’t scream for the first 5-10minutes)!

OP posts:
Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 19/11/2020 22:48

It's feeling better, thank you

We have a jaundice review on Sunday to see if phototherapy is needed. We've been trying hard to get out in the sunshine but this dull weather isn't helping!!

60sPony · 23/11/2020 12:44

How is everyone getting on this week? Hope everyone isn’t too tired!

Baby boy has a lot of wind that seems to wake him up from about 3am so hoping he’ll grow out of that soon!
