@1990shopefulftm wow, you have done SO well, congratulations on the arrival of your baby and what sounds like quite a tough experience on you since. The mum guilt is REAL, every single day so far I've questioned something I've done 'wrong' and have to remind myself that so much is out of our control and you can only do your best, which you clearly are doing. You're both still figuring out this new life together, I'm sure he will be snuggled up on the sofa with you really soon and feeding like a champ 🏆 I had exactly the same worries about breastfeeding and absolutely resented all of the extra support I was given to help him feed better the first few days- which is ridiculous because the midwives only want whats best for you both but its so natural to worry that you're not doing things 'perfect' first time around. Hope in time you will realise how incredible you are to deliver a big healthy baby and go through a long labour. You're doing great!!

1990shopefulftm · 08/11/2020 16:55

@Freddie1987 thank you for your kind words :) yes we re doing the best we can as parents and that's all we can do, the neonatal nurses are special breed of people so we re taking all the advice we can get from them.

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 08/11/2020 19:48

Baby Alfie arrived this afternoon weighing in at 8lb13oz.

I got to 8cm at home, then to 10cm within 20 mins of being at the hospital, got in the pool and he arrived with 20 of pushing.

No pain relief at all!

I've had a few stitches and I'm very sore but we're home now as a family of 4!

1990shopefulftm · 08/11/2020 20:22

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt congratulations, no pain relief is amazing, hope you re nice and comfortable at home now :)

DressingGown87 · 08/11/2020 20:39

@1990shopefulftm hope your doing ok, and your little boy is ok. As for Mum guilt and anxiety, it’s completely normal. Even when they cry it floods in. I’ve felt awful mum guilt for the last 2 weeks, watching Paige in pain with her stomach, I’ve questioned if I’m a failure, if I’m doing enough. We are getting there though, and as I’ve been reminded I’m trying my best in a situation I can’t control, the same applies to you. There isn’t anything you could have done differently, just remember that. As for the milk, she only took 5/10ml in the first day or so because she was so tired and asleep, it gradually builds up, as they get use to feeding. I really hope your little boy is ok, and you can both go home soon and be in the comfort of your home and together.

@Mc3209 thank you. As soon as she sees the changing mat, it’s a full blown melt down. I was using water wipes, but I think they were too cold. I will have a look at them others. It like a military operation.

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt aww congratulations on your little boy Alfie. Well done for no pain relief, glad your both home and resting.

@DressingGown87 glad to hear that Paige built up her milk from the first day, hopefully we ll have a similar experience.
We ve managed 15ml today, his cannula and Ng tube barely seem to bother him so we know he's a happy baby despite being ill.
You re clearly doing everything you can for Paige.

krissy12 · 08/11/2020 21:42

@1990shopefulftm yeah hes got more alert as the days have gone on. he is 10 days old now and tends to take between 3 & 4 oz a feed but we tend to split it eg. give him half then change his nappy /give him a bath then give him the rest of the bottle otherwise he would only take about 2oz and fall asleep then be looking for another bottle an hour later.
when we were in the hospital and he was really sleepy the midwives said to me to change his nappy before feeding him because this would wake him up and he would feed better

1990shopefulftm · 08/11/2020 23:11

@krissy12 thank you for your advice, we ll give that a try :)

Sls668 · 09/11/2020 13:55

I’m in to be induced today. They’ve just put the pessary in and are deciding if I can go home and wait rather than staying in. The hospital ward is so so quiet, I hope it stays this way for the next few days!

SamK93 · 09/11/2020 14:43

Good luck!! @Sls668

Congratulations @Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt you've done amazing to get to 8cm at home!

@1990shopefulftm hoping today is a better day for you both.

1990shopefulftm · 09/11/2020 17:05

@Sls668 good luck :)

@SamK93 progress is slow for both of us, he ll have a good feed and then need his tube on the next one. Feeling the baby blues today so wasn't too cheery when the midwife announced they want me on blood thinning injections due to my stay being so long, I don't mind needles at all just unexpected that I d need it.

SamK93 · 09/11/2020 17:40

@1990shopefulftm I had to have those blood thinning injections too, was discharged with them, it's a ten day course isn't it? I hated them! DH had to administer them into my stomach. I didn't bother after day four to be honest with you because I was up and about and active. The baby blues are a natural thing. Hormones are up and down, make sure you speak about how you feel to someone and don't keep anything bottled up x

1990shopefulftm · 09/11/2020 18:09

@SamK93 they haven't confirmed how long they want me on them yet, I think they re deciding when I get discharged, no way will my DH feel able to do them for me.

I ve told my DH how i m feeling and he's been wonderful, he's been so positive about the situation.

Mc3209 · 09/11/2020 23:39

@1990shopefulftm it very good your DH is being supportive. Look after yourself.

@Sls668 good luck with induction!

I just had a proper look at my post partum body...and it's a trainwreck. DS is 2 weeks old, but I still look 20 weeks pregnant. And there is a lot more of me (and it's not water retention as I've already lost all of that). Gosh, it's not a pretty sight. Will need to come up with some sort of a plan to shift it.

1990shopefulftm · 10/11/2020 01:59

Things are just getting worse for me. I had my checks done and I ve got a temperature so been forced to self isolate in a room alone without baby and had a panic attackin front of the midwives, I m worried they re going to think I m a crap mum now when I ve done everything they ve asked for.

Mc3209 · 10/11/2020 03:01

@1990shopefulftm they will not think that, I promise. You are doing great, mama. You and your little one will get through this hospital stint and will be home in no time. Stay strong, lovely. 💐

watersintheclouds · 10/11/2020 09:24

I can finally say that my baby has arrived! Wren arrived at 9.10pm last night weighing 8lb 11oz. She was 11 days overdue. The labour didn’t go as planned as baby was showing distress when I attended triage and they suspected she had done a poo. This was confirmed when they broke my waters so we were on an accelerated labour plan. Luckily I continued to dilate as they needed so I didn’t need to go on the drip. I had made it from 4cm at 6am to 10cm at 6pm and started to push. I was given 45 mins on the clock but that wasn’t enough to get her out so we agreed to go
to theatre and attempt a forceps delivery but this would become a c section if needed. The forceps worked and although I needed an episiotomy, we are happy that we made the right decisions to get our baby out safely.

We both have to stay in for monitoring for 24 hours but I’ve just spoken to a midwife who said we might be let out tonight instead of tomorrow as all observations are good so far. The postnatal ward is not a relaxing place to recover. My next door bed mate pressed her alarm every hour during the night so I got next to no sleep.

krissy12 · 10/11/2020 10:03

@1990shopefulftm the midwives will not think you a crap mum at all as you said you have done everything they have asked for and are trying your best they cant ask for more than that. hope you and baby are reunited soon.

congratulations @watersintheclouds on your baby girl love the name. I feel your pain on the post natal wards I was kept in 2 nights.

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt · 10/11/2020 11:29

How is everyone getting on? I'd forgotten about just how tricky breastfeeding is! We're still finding our feet with it and getting to latch with my size 34k boobs is an effort.

FirstSurprise001 · 10/11/2020 11:51

Morning ladies!

Congratulations to all the new mummy’s! I’ve loved reading all your labour stories and hope you’re all recovering well!

We’re on day 10 with Finley today and I fall in love with him more and more! I’m feeling you with the breastfeeding @Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt , he has a tendency to chew on my nipples (think the cartoons of a tongue stuck to an ice pole when I try to unlatch him)!! But we’re back up to birth weight!

Has anyone found that their newborn nappies are leaking? We have first size pampers and Fred&Flo but pee seems to constantly leak out the legs unless they’re super super tight!

Mc3209 · 10/11/2020 12:16

@FirstSurprise001 I've been using Lidl's lupilu nappies and they don't leak at all. Apparently Aldi mamia ones are good too.

1990shopefulftm · 10/11/2020 13:46

@FirstSurprise001 asdas nappies are working great for us at the moment, we had to go straight to size 2 though.
@krissy12 @Mc3209 thank you for your kind words, baby is finally on the ward with me so I m feeling a lot better.

Having to have an iron infusion and antibiotics today, hoping we can finally go home on Thursday. I m going to be asking to have a birth reflections session with the hospital in a couple of months as I think the trauma could affect me long term if we had a second baby so want to nip it in the bud.

60sPony · 10/11/2020 15:54

@FirstSurprise001 Are you pulling the frilly bits outside the nappy once you put it on? This shop help stop leaks and I didn’t know about this for ages with my first!

60sPony · 10/11/2020 15:56

Congrats @watersintheclouds sounds like you’re did great!

FirstSurprise001 · 10/11/2020 16:11

@60sPony I had no idea!! Will definitely try this thank you x
