Is it obvious when breach babies turn?

Hi I'm 32 weeks pregnant, at my midwife appointment last week (31 weeks) she confirmed baby was breach and his head was directly under my ribs

I can still feel the lump under my ribs and was wondering how obvious it was when / if baby turns?

Thanks in advance

I think when you're that far on it would be quite obvious if it moves. Mine moved from transverse to breech at about that time and I felt like I was going to be sick, like I was at sea from all the movement!

hiredandsqueak · 23/09/2020 16:27

Mine turned from head down to breech at 34 weeks and it was really painful and like pp made me feel really sick so I imagine it would be just the same the other way round.

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 23/09/2020 16:38

Not necessarily ! Mine was breech at 36 weeks on scan and then midwife said again at 38 weeks. But morning of section 39 weeks she had turned and I hadn’t noticed and thought I could still feel her head up high!! (This was 2 weeks ago!)

pumpkinpie01 · 23/09/2020 16:39

I was pretty sure my son had turned back to head down at 38 weeks and I was right. My stomach went crazy for about 5 minutes !

ChikiTIKI · 23/09/2020 16:43

Mine turned at 33 weeks ish and I definitely knew. I was picking up loads of things off the floor (after creche at church) and when I sat down to eat lunch the feeling of her moving took my breath away. My heartburn suddenly reduced and I felt more comfortable. Also didn't suddenly need a wee all the time because her feet weren't jabbing my bladder anymore.

mylittlesandwich · 23/09/2020 16:45

Where I am they scan to confirm breech presentation. My midwife thought DS was breech but a scan a couple of days later said he wasn't.

Glendaruel · 23/09/2020 16:54

I'm in same situation. 31 weeks and baby is lying breech still. Have scan next week to see if she has got her act together. Midwife asked me where I was getting my kicks from and so far she hasn't changed her kicking habits. I've ordered up a bouncing ball to see if that helps as my kitchen floor isn't big enough to scrub which is apparently one way of getting them to turn!!!

dollypartonscoat · 23/09/2020 16:55

No, I couldn't tell

This was my experience too. I couldn't have not noticed it.
chipsticks2020 · 23/09/2020 17:20

thank you all so much for responding, I'll keep an eye out of big movements and hopefully it won't hurt!

I'm really nervous if he doesn't, I was breach myself and refused to turn so I've got a feeling he's going to be equally stubborn 😅

I did feel a big jolt yesterday and heart burn reduced loads but felt the same an hour or so later!

🤞🏻 he decides to turn in the next few weeks

Mine was transverse at 37 weeks I had a scan the day after and she’d turned, hadn’t noticed anything at all

MichelleOR84 · 23/09/2020 19:09

My DS was breach until around 36 weeks ( or a bit before that ). It was so obvious when he flipped . It was a huge movement and I suddenly felt pressure down there . Of course I could be wrong but a few days later at my midwife appointment it was confirmed he had flipped .

VeggieSausageRoll · 23/09/2020 19:11

Mine was head down until 36 weeks (2 weekly growth scans from 28 weeks). He was breech at 36 weeks so they rescanned at 37 to see if I needed a section and he was back to head down. Totally unaware both times

chipsticks2020 · 23/09/2020 19:20

Thank you all, it seems it just depends on baby doesn't it.

Fingers crossed he does it soon

Mine is breech since 30 weeks (I am 34+4 at the moment). I think he is flipping from transverse to breech, and now he is kind of diagonal. I can feel what I think is his head under my ribs on the right and kicks from what I assume are the legs in left groin.
Got midwife review next week, let's see what she says.

randomsabreuse · 23/09/2020 19:30

I'm pretty sure my 2nd turned at just under 36 or so weeks. Certainly felt like a washing machine motion (we were on a very bumpy road in rural Yorkshire - I was not impressed by DH's choice of road?). Was certainly noticeable whatever he was doing, although he was head down for all scans he was palpating as breech a fair amount between.

Missmonkeypenny · 23/09/2020 19:31

It wasnt for me, DS flipped from breech to head down multiple times between 32-38 weeks to the point I was almost admitted for an 'unstable lie'. I did have polyhydramnious though so he had a LOT of water to move around in.

SephrinaX · 23/09/2020 19:36

I would say that to not just take the midwifes word for it that the baby has moved or turned. Get a scan if you can.

I've had 2 breech babies both times I was told by different midwives that the head was engaged or pointing down when it was not.

No disrespect to midwives, I can't tell the difference between bum and head on the bump either! I don't know how they tell at all 😂

Laurapb88 · 23/09/2020 20:09

My son never turned the right way round but I could feel and see him trying to turn he seemed to get stuck half way round sx

SpaceOP · 23/09/2020 20:13

I felt it. I really really felt it. Pain, weirdness, then massive sense of relief! Grin Little bugger still landed up being born by c-section!

lorisparkle · 23/09/2020 20:21

I definitely knew ds1 had not moved from being breech. You could see the lump where his head was and once he got in that position he never budged. It was quite uncomfortable- right under my ribs!

DisneyGirl2387 · 23/09/2020 21:14

I'm 33 weeks (FTM) and my baby is breech too. My midwife told me at my 32 week appointment. It makes sense now as my kicks are really low and I need the toilet all of the time. I've got a scan to check my placenta on Monday so hopefully they can tell me more then. I'm trying not to worry too much but it is on my mind!!

Hazelmazel · 23/09/2020 21:19

I couldn't tell at all. I had a scan at 36 weeks and he was breech. No sign of him turning so went in at 37 weeks for an ECV. They did a scan first and he was head-down! Not a clue when it had happened. I never would have thought at that late stage that they'd have enough room to spin around completely without you noticing and if I hadn't had 2 scans so there was no doubt about the positioning, I'd have thought someone had mistaken it.

BigRedBoat · 23/09/2020 21:34

Both of mine turned after 37 weeks and I didn't notice.

chipsticks2020 · 23/09/2020 22:08

Thanks all, I'm worried he won't move as really want to avoid c-section if possible!

At the end of the day it seems baby does what baby wants so we'll have to wait and see 🤣
