I’m very early with this! I found out yesterday I’m pregnant, due 1st June.

Anyone else with me yet? Smile

@thefishthatcouldwish thanks I hadn’t thought of flu jab! I’ve also got on my list to ask when I will have my blood tests done and when my scan will be.

curiouscat1987 · 20/10/2020 16:02

@Iknewyouwerewaitingforme

I’ve just seen you started a thread asking people about having sex post birth and what state their vaginas were in. This 100% is not a valid reason to want a C Section.
Yep that was me, however that was only curiosity/preparation and is not my reason for wanting one - as I mentioned before I have a few reasons myself but was only curious as to experiences others have had!
curiouscat1987 · 20/10/2020 16:03
@curiouscat1987 if you search in mumsnet there’s been threads in the past where people have discussed c sections and I’ve definitely seen people say that the hospital can’t refuse you one, but your consultant may not be willing to in which case they refer you to someone who will.
Thanks, that's super useful to know!

Penny2020 · 20/10/2020 16:08

@curiouscat1987 I also think it depends on your area. A friend of mine (based in North London) had an elective c-section, she said she was asked what she’d prefer and they told her all the pros and cons, and she chose c-section. I don’t know anyone else who’s had that experience but it must happen in some places. And if you don’t ask you don’t get, so if that’s your preference it’s definitely worth flagging.
I have my booking appointment tomorrow as well. I hadn’t even thought about preparing any questions, so this is all very helpful ladies.

MummyOfZog · 20/10/2020 16:17

@curiouscat1987 - Yes, I have already requested an elective c-section for this baby. I mentioned it to my midwife at my booking app and she has sent off a consultant request for me to speak with a consultant around 16-20 weeks.

This is my second baby, and whilst I don't fit the usual 'medical' reasons for a c-sec this time, I do have some reasons that are to do with ongoing conditions - however, people with these conditions wouldn't typically be offered a c-sec so the process I'll be following is the same as a non-medical need c-sec request (Maternal Request it's called). Happy for you to PM me about it as I've researched this extensively!

NICE guidelines require that anyone can request a c-sec and typically the hospital has to hear your request, and may make you attend counseling and consultant appointments to explain risks etc. If after all risks are explained you still want to go ahead then they either accept your request, or if they decline they must then refer you to a different consultant (or NHS trust nearby) that will accept.

DollyParton2 · 20/10/2020 16:25

Having seen several very close friends having a very tough time recovery post-C section (as well as generally having far more difficulties getting their stomachs back in shape afterwards) it would be my absolute worst, most dreaded type of birth. Just to throw my 2 pence in there after 2DC with natural birth.

Thank you, that's really good to know! Would be really interested to hear how you get on with the request if you feel like sharing this in the future? My first appt isnt until 10 weeks as apparently a lot of people have been very busy over lockdown (the booking lady's words not mine!), but I'll be raising it with them when I see them. Nice to know others are in similar situations :)

Yep I've heard similar about the recovery. Certainly not the 'easy' option (not that birth is ever easy, but sure you know what I mean!)
maloney123 · 20/10/2020 16:37

Sorry for all the posts everybody but one thing I’m really Worrying about is sex! I’ve read that you may be advised to avoid sex if you have an incompetent cervix but you wouldn’t know that you had this unless something has already gone badly wrong. Is it OTT to ask for a TV ultrasound so they can check my cervix?

maloney123 · 20/10/2020 16:40

@DollyParton2 @curiouscat1987 for what it’s worth, I know a number of women who’ve had horrible traumatic births (think emergency alarms, haemorrhage, blood transfusions, baby came out not breathing) and one who had a c section and she said her experience was amazing. So there are pros and cons on both sides!

MummyOfZog · 20/10/2020 16:40

Definitely true @DollyParton2 several close family members have had emergency (so, not elective) c-sections and had a tough recovery so it's not a decision to enter into lightly at all. Having said that, elective sections generally have better recovery outcomes which seems logical when you think about the trauma to the body in an emergency situation (on top of the usual bodily trauma of simply being in labour beforehand).

For balance, whilst I had a wonderful vaginal birth with DC#1 plenty of people have traumatic recoveries from 'natural' labours too due to tearing, episiotomy, forceps trauma etc. It's all just part of the hand we're dealt unfortunately! Sadly there's no easy and pain free way to get these babies out of us!

Penny2020 · 20/10/2020 16:43

I’m not going to lie ladies - I’m not sure I’m ready to start hearing labour horror stories! I’m only just getting over the idea of something growing inside me, I can’t think about how it’s coming out. Help!

DollyParton2 · 20/10/2020 16:46

Agreed- let’s leave the birth stories/ discussions for much later now Smile

Quiptic · 20/10/2020 16:59

@curiouscat1987 I’m planning to have a private NIPT test for screening but haven’t decided yet whether we’ll find out the gender. Probably will. I think otherwise you can find out at your second scan at around 20 weeks.

maloney123 · 20/10/2020 17:03

Yes, agreed! Sorry all! Smile

bestsquirrelinthewholehole · 20/10/2020 17:09

@Maloney123 I wouldn't know about that... But I've been having lots of sex 😜 6 weeks today.

PumpkinEverything · 20/10/2020 17:30

Hi everyone! Hoping to join in 😁 I got my BFP a week ago today, but only told my husband yesterday, and also wanted to read all the comments on here before posting!
Such a relief to see so many people with similar thoughts as me. So far my only symptoms since finding out are being bloated, gassy and sore boobs (but only to the touch). I’ve checked they’re still sore quite a few times just reading through all this 😂
My LMP was around 2/9 and I believe i ovulated on 2/10. My cycles range from 34-45 days so I don’t think counting for my LMP is accurate for me, so if I count from ovulation I think I’m 4+6 today.
I have no idea what I’m doing 😔 only my husband knows, I’m a FTM and don’t have any friends who have been pregnant (AFAIK). I haven’t called the GP yet as I don’t know if that’s what I’m supposed to do?! I live in NI, and I don’t know if that means it’s any different than other parts of the U.K.
I think I’m going to tell my best friends this week as I would tell them even if something was wrong.
I get quite anxious normally, but since finding out I’ve been having what I would describe as actual waves of anxiety through my body. I really want it to stop as I know it’s not good for me! 😩

Happy2be · 20/10/2020 17:47

My symptoms seem to be happening like textbook 😂 my app told me nausea would kick up a gear this week and what do ya know! Bleurghhhhhhh 😂 someone in the facebook suggested mini chedder cheeses! So far so good 😂😂

bex757 · 20/10/2020 18:28

Does anyone have bad acid reflex and heartburn?

Penny2020 · 20/10/2020 18:30

I did with my previous pregnancy @bex757. Rennie is safe to take, and helped me a lot

bex757 · 20/10/2020 18:41

@Penny2020 I had it in my last pregnancy but only for a little while- I'm only 5 weeks 6 days, so wasn't expecting it yet, it's making me sick! I have tried gaviscon so far which works for like 30 mins!

bestsquirrelinthewholehole · 20/10/2020 18:45

I keep getting an upset stomach, anyone else. I know people are getting constipated, but I'm the other!!! I generally have IBS anyway so guessing it could be ramped up, just don't remember having such a bad time of it with any of my others.

swiftt · 20/10/2020 18:49

Is anyone else not feeling sick? I’m 7 weeks and have had the odd wave of nausea but nothing major.

bestsquirrelinthewholehole · 20/10/2020 18:59

Yeah no sickness here either

Pika93 · 20/10/2020 19:33

I feel like I'm hitting my head off a brick wall atm, I've been bleeding for the past 7 days had a scan the second day and baby was fine, but my bleeding hasn't even thought about stopping and I keep having cramps. EPU won't see me again and Im stressing so much as this is my first pregnancy 😔
